  • two thumbs up!

  • love this! any chance you could tell me what shutter speed you used and the interval between each image because i want to do this for my photography project. Thanks in advance

  • How long are the exposures on average?

  • Fun one!

  • I have a question. does the mount continueously rotate? if so, wouldn't the individual photos have motion blur? I was thinking of getting one of those, but it seems like it's hard to find out exactly where to go (online wise) and find out what i'll get, etc. Do you have any simple motorized heads that will go on top of regular tripods?

  • Nice one, what head do you use that allows you to rotate so slowly?

  • @klestor the MiLapse head. =)

  • do you freeze the exposure?

  • very very VERY good.

nice panning - wish i could do that.

Have scanned a few of your videos - you're certainly on a mission.

    thanks for the drive.

  • Awesome 5*

  • I'm taking a drive this summer from Michigan US to Vancouver Canada. I'm really hoping to do something similar to this (that's about a 3 day trip without stopping). I have a Canon EOS 30D, not that I know what that means or how to use it. Any tips? Helpful advice? Anything at all I'd love! I love your video :)

  • gawd, you must burn through your cams fast with that many actuations...what was this like ~4K shutter clicks?

  • I've never killed a camera... shutter fear is overrated imho. ;-)

  • Perfect! Thank for our imagination. Reality is sometimes so boring....

  • Wow! Now I really want to get me one of those motion control heads.

  • very cool!

  • nice video, definitely not the average :D

  • so you must have a camera with a setting were you can expand the the shutter and take continuous pictures at the same time right?

  • that's the definition of 'timelapse' ;-)

  • cool!thanks alot for all of your help i will drop a time lapse video as soon as i get it.question.what program do i need for hdr pics and vids and can i get one for free on line?thanks

  • how did you get the light s to look like that?please dont tell me that you used a program.did you speed up the video?

  • this is long exposure (2 sec) photos. the speed is just a 'result' of stringing the photos together and playing it back at 30fps.

  • Yeah, it's really cool for me because I like the panning work here.

IMHO, you should have placed the camera a little bit lower. Just a little bit, because I think too much of the roof is shown here. Just my thought.

Did you use a panning tripod that stops moving a head while a picture is being exposured? I'm courious to know that because of the fact that otherwise pictures may be blured using long shutter speeds. Or it just rotates relatively slow to be worried about that in this case?

  • If I was to do it again I'd shoot it @20mm vs the 10 you see here and yes a little lower...

the movement is continuous. 'blurred' is always a relative term as most motion photography aka film has some element of blur if examined very closely.

  • Thanks a lot for your feedback!

I must try the driving timelapse some day :)

  • Great work! I love the whole production - the music realy enhances the effect. Can't wait to see more from you... ;)

  • 2:05 wtf???? xDDDD

  • great vid man

  • that's awesome how u did that pan, on a motor or something? great vid!

  • omg that is sick!!!!, how did you get the camera so stable

  • Basically by bungying the tripod down... I think the long exposures helped too, over the course of 3 seconds if there is a bump or two it's sort of 'averaged' out.

  • awesome, you can expect a time lapse like that from me!

  • You're the man!

  • Your time lapse work makes me want to get out shooting again!

Love the re-engineering of telescope mounts, sure beats lugging a worral head and the rest around.

  • cool

  • Thanks! You've got some great work too! Brilliant ideas and great foresight. And outstanding music choices!

  • Finally got round to checking out your videos, very nice. Think this one would look kinda cool running backwards.

  • Now this is a very recreative experience, amazing! One question from me: What program do you use to edit your videos?

  • Thanks! I use After-Effects and Premiere mostly.

  • Amazing effect. Excellent!

  • Mad props for getting the tripod set up in your car. That is always a cramped place to work. I just ordered the 494 package from telescope warehouse thanks to you.

  • fucking amazing. What kind of camera, setting and axis panning head did you use?

  • just take a little look around my channel and you'll find what u need. ;-)

  • That's original and very good to watch.

  • yo, very very nice work man. how'd you get the camera to rotate so smoothly?

  • nice idea. i like the video!!

  • This time lapse is REALLY COOL! AWESOME job!! I love it! 5 stars and fave!

  • inspirational ... and sweet!

  • Woooo! You're so good at this - brilliant work!

Much better than my average timelapse driving :P

    keep 'em coming!

  • Oh and the best bit is around 33 seconds in where the street lights appear to freeze mid air :D

  • Sweet! love the panning!

  • ok... that was good. damn good!!! kudos to you sir!!!

  • That is awesome! I have got to have a go at something similar. Love all your timelapse stuff :)

  • That was brilliant! A nice twist on your average road/car time lapses. How did you do it? Please let us know!

  • wow i rated with 5 stars before it had even finished. amazing!!

  • thats so cool, how did you get the camera to rotate like that. it got to be the best timelapse video i have seen so far!!! empire

  • what song was that?ilike!

  • PUSH EJECT!

  • Totally cool! I LOVE it! Good music too!

  • Amazing timelapse, great music, well done sir

  • Awesome

  • wanted to see a vertical axis pan the whole time....looks like you have a sunroof..figure out how to make the driver invisible.....great piece.

  • What are you like !?!?!?!?!? oh so well done. would never of thought of that for a pan. My hat is off to you sir......indeedy

  • Thanks Ewen! Means the world to me from someone with your talent. Cheers! see you around...

  • Great work! Certainly given me some food for thought, although its a little difficult and expensive with super 8mm. Keep it up!

  • I love time lapses, but this one's definitely my favorite. Very cool!

  • Wow man this is really cool...How did you rotate the camera so smoothly?

  • I have lots of video explanations...

  • Ya I found them after I poked around a bit :) Very helpful

  • Nice job! I found your site via the BIG DSLR tracking thread on dvxuser. What DSLR did you use for this? What shutter and exposure?

  • D200, iso200, 3sec @ F8 every 5sec... (i think) Thanks!

  • realy nice, but I like mine too ! ;-)

  • best time lapse vid on youtube! INSANE

  • hey I appreciate that!

  • Hi MI Lapse! That's a seriously nice bit of moco you've got going there. Hats off!

  • I enjoyed the trippy light tracers and groovy sounds. It is great when such an effort is rewarded, good work.

  • wow, thats really awesome!!!!! I use a sony cyber-shot, (the high-definition one) its not much but i'm just beginning. Good job though!

  • Well done. That's too cool!

  • Cool I'm about to make driving timelapse also just I had no idea yet to where to put the camera to be good!^^

  • seriously bad ass

  • Wow! It`s refreshing! By the way, do you think, it would be useful ability to program automatic stop position of a cam?

  • That was sweet. You made an hour and a half car ride actually enjoyable.

  • Very cool... reminds me of Radiohead's "Karma Police" video, but with more energy. Your homemade panning gadget is awesome. Sign me up when they go into full scale production and hit the market. I want one!

  • You are a talented photographer!

  • Great work! Whats the exposure time youve set for each picture?

  • This was - iso200 - F/8 - 3sec - 5sec/frame - 1.5hours - 1100 total frames - 540d rotation - top rotational speed 27x sidereal - 100 miles (Ann Arbor to Detroit and Back)

  • Excellent !

  • Very nice, especially with the panning. You should do some more.

  • Ive done a similar thing with a camera in the front pasenger seat, but all I did was loosen the tirpod handle enough for a bit of movement, and put a heavy cd case weighing it down, it very slightly panned. Very low budget.

Also I wonde if anyone else knows this is, Boom Boom Satellites. ;)

  • Good call! I was introduced to BBS in Detroit in like '00 when they opened for... (my memory fails me) Moby maybe? The crowd was simply stunned.

  • awesome

  • Man, that was the coolest ride.

  • omg that is kewl
