  • I like the song thanks to my father's introduction of it to me, however when I first heard it, I was quite excited that I recognized the guitar rift that sounded quite familiar to that of the stage selection, world 2, in Super Mario Bro's 3! Clever Nintendo, clever.

  • This song was 50 years ago no.17 in the world year-end-charts #everly #brothers

  • @mick59707 I think you have this the wrong way round, Neil Youngs Harvest moon sounds like this, This song was first recorded (with this intro) in 1961.

  • My borther was my leader in music... so I loved music that he want to play but Iam glad he did now I love not just the beatles but more

  • I love this song!!!

  • This really is one of the best versions .... they are perfect!!!

  • Hypnotic!

  • still guys

  • When my dad attended UCLA in the early 60's, he made a band and they did a great cover of this song. I'll try and put it up when I can.

  • Must have missed the point somewhere ,

    so forigve my ignorance .

I agree that music these days is about money and not talent .

Getting back to the Everly brothers well talent passonified .

  • Well, then, I stand corrected. Now that you say it, it DOES sound reminiscent of Buddy Holly/Crickets type thing.

  • rickcee..."Walk Right Back" was written by Sonny Curtis...check his Youtube sessions and you;ll hear him sing the 2nd verse that the Everly Bros never included.

  • Thanks Phoebus, you are quite right Walk Right Back was written by Sonny Curtis. The reason the Everlys left out the second verse is that they were under pressure to go into the studio, so Sonny gave them the song unfinished, by the time he came back to them with the other verse the recording was already in the can. ( have put a reply on rickee's thread)

  • @megasuggs Didnt the army have something to do with it as well? either Don and Phil or Sonny Curtis. I think they got called up and recorded it unfinished??

  • I think you may well be right EB84.

  • Yep...I'm wrong on that one. He also wrote "I Fought the Law" I believe. I just assumed, based on so many other tunes of the EBs written by BB, that he also wrote "Walk Right Back," but nope.

  • @1Phoebus I have searched for these Sonny Curtis youtube sessions and don;t see them posted anywhere.

  • Loved him too for sooooooo long! Have you ever listened to any of his solo songs...they are wonderful!!!

  • Phil, Phil , Phil I have always loved you

  • Approximately 24 years after they first released this song, and it still sounds great. They sound great. Certain compositions are timeless. They're classic.

  • Compositions courtesy of the late, great Boudeleaux Bryant.

  • @rickcee: Thanks for the information, Rick. It's just a shame that we no longer have good song writers with us any longer. Oh, there's still a few, I guess. But, the music industry is in dire need of something new, and creative. The current genres available are pathetic, and lacking.

  • terrafirma....that might be a bit harsh. There are always talented people out there. Maybe we've just lowered our standards over time. Look...everything's on the cheap now. Decades ago, even in the musical show genre, there were brilliant composers like Richard Rodgers and his partners, first Lorenz Hart and then Oscar Hammerstein. There were Lerner & Lowe, great composers. Now you have Andrew Lloyd Weber--who basically just steals older pop melodies and mixes 'em together .

  • @rickcee: Are you saying the industry is "controlling" which composers are aired, and also those that write great compositions, yet no artist would record their works?

  • LOL....no, of COURSE not. I'm saying basically what you said earlier--not as much talent around these days, for whatever reason.

  • rickcee: Oh, I see. My kids are still listening to music from the 80's, and 90's. I don't hear anything very appealing from the music industry these days.

  • I'm trying to be fair and diplomatic, and not "stuck" in earlier times. I really don't hear much on the radio that appeals to me, but I'm trying to have an open mind about music, since I've made my living as a musician for so many years. Every now and again I hear something that is good, or someone with talent. Unfortunately, most of what makes it to "hit" status sucks. Example: Amy Winehouse's stuff that made it big I hated. The other day I heard something obscure and it was quite good.

  • rickcee: I have a difficult time in being "fair and diplomatic" when it comes to any of the arts. I think there are just too many music execs with just business degrees, and not in music appreciation. I also believe excessive nepotism has blurred many a producer's good judgment.

  • Oh, I agree wholeheartedly. The music business has always been about money and not art. The difference is that in the burgeoning years many of the execs who made big impacts on the business happened to be record fans FIRST and execs next. I think that's changed an awful lot. Another thing--years ago it was the "record" period. They wanted to make a good record that would stand on its own. A production was a "thing," and object--something that stood like the Tower of Pisa. Now we download.

  • Oh, and I forgot to mention the Black Eyed Peas. Also quite good at what they do.

  • Sorry spoil things rickcee but walk right back wasn't written by Boudelesux Bryant who wrote so many great Everly songs, It was actualy written by Sonny Curtis from the Crickets.

  • Another good one by the Everly Brothers. One of my favorites. Fran

  • no doubt about it the boy's can sing.

    thank's fore share Fran

  • The "boys" were great singers. They are now 70 and 71. Fran

  • How do they do that? Like one voice. No one has ever duplicated this sound, and no one(or two) ever will.

  • Probably because they're brothers, and more than likely have been harmonizing together since childhood. Definitely a unique sound.

  • This has been another great group that I loved....I still do....great songs and beautiful voices...

  • Such talent AND professionalism. re: comment from a year or so ago, abbout Phil stealing the lead: Don gave him a brotherly LOOK! lol

  • Which town are they singing in? I like details like that.

  • They were singing at Her Majesty's Theatre in London in November 1985.

  • looks like the paladium in London UK

  • cool crooners!

  • Is it my imagination or did Neil Young cop this opening guitar licks for "harvest moon" ??

  • Yes, I've always thought that too, its certainly very closely related.

  • It is not your imagination - he did lift the rift. The Everly's were an early influence on Neil - he even inducted them into the R&R Hall of Fame.

  • They look and sound AMAZING. Nothing on the radio today touches them. P-diddy, whatever. They're all dwarves next to these guys.

  • strtrknaxdunivrs...please define old. You they and I are in the same line. Some make it to the end, some get yanked out by surprise

  • I think they look pretty darn GOOD and they sing sooooo beautiful!!!

  • wow...they're so old...I've never seen them this old before...lolol

I absolutely love this song though

  • GREAT.....

  • Thanks to Sonny Curtis for writing a great song and choosing the best duo ever to sing it!

  • This is my favourite Everly song, I think. I first heard them when I was 14 and I learnt the guitar by listening to their songs. I've seen them live five times since they reformed and they've been brilliant each time. Don't think they'll ever tour again - but we live in hope. Thank you Don & Phil for your music. It's made my world a whole lot better for you being in it.

  • Amen to that.

  • i used to cry to this song when I was a kid : (

  • I listen to every form of music there is and yet I always return to the Everly Brothers. They're the best. And the root of so much more. Still relevant. Does anyone know if they still tour?

  • They last toured in 2005, I was at their last UK gig at Ipswich, we can only hope they will tour again, but if not, we can only thank them for their great contribution to the music of our time.

  • Thanks, megasuggs for your prompt reply. I guess there's always hope!

    Johnat24th

  • I thank God that The Everlys are still around. I have to see them before I die.

  • dunskie Search the white pages on the internet to find Don's address in Nashville and Phil and his wife's address just outside Nashville! Since they ARE listed, perhaps they would not mind a fan letter! I haven't had the guts to send one-don't want to seem like an insane stalker!! Why don't YOU write to them and let us all know what happens?? Perhaps you can find out if they'll be appearing somewhere! You can also Google their houses! I have done that! ;) ;) :) Perhaps I am insane.....

  • I was in a group called The Movers and a guy claiming to be the soundman for the Everlys told me that they used my groups CD for pre-show. Right before Phil and Don would come out. It was like their cue. I don't know if it is true or not. As far as writing? I don't know.

  • Don't want to write?? Well then-call them!!! LOL Cool about your CD-even if it wasn't used by the Everlys!! Is it on YouTube?? I'm gonna check right now! Thanks for the reply! :)

  • I just checked and there are German Movers and Brent Bennett and The Movers. Are you from the latter group? There are a bazillion songs to listen to-if it's you. If not-get busy and get YOUR CD on here! We need all the Movers we can get our ears on! I think you should call Phil, play your music and ask him if it makes him feel like goin' on stage. Then you'll know if the rumor is true! In fact-maybe your music will make him sing for you!! LOL. ;)

  • If you check out my youtube page you can see my band. The one with the horns. The Movers are no more. Our Cd's were self produced. But we sold a bunch. The old fashioned way. On the gigs.

  • I live in the States and I would love a photo from the 2005 tour. I'm with icebowlkat does anyone have Devoted To You. It's a fabulous song.

  • Phil tried to steal the lead! ;)

  • And why shouldn't he, eh??? At this point his voice was stronger, sweeter and he never missed a note!!! Always my favorite!! Sigh~~~~~~ ;)

  • You are a star my friend!! I will emai u some photos from the 2005 Tour

  • Will you email some to me??? Do you have more video of the 2005 tour? Desperately seeking "Devoted To You". Thanks for past videos. So great for we who have never seen in person the absolute best duo in the history of the world!!! :)
