The Ted Stevens and Mark Begich drama is, sadly, peanuts compared to the Coleman/Franken debacle. Whereas Alaskans are merely counting out votes at this point, the vicious rumors are really flying in Minnesota, with the realistic prospect of a recount and plenty of alleged "irregularities" (no hanging chads this time around, though).

There is another reason to care about the Alaska Senate race. If Stevens wins and is forced to resign, then Palin will have an opening to come to Washington DC. She can appoint herself (or a flunky) as interim Senator and run in the special election that follows. She could stay in the national spotlight for years to come. God help us all.
