Tom Verlaine and Richard Lloyd - These guys were punk godfathers, psychedelic guitar madmen and romantic poets all at the same time. Nothing like them, before or since.
@saborranchero This is exactly what I am doing at this moment - suddenly haunted by this song this week after many years, right now figuring it out note for note on my acoustic guitar, and marveling at the composition of it.
We are big fans of Television and the new wave scene. If you could have a listen to our stuff (click our name and it will take you to our videos) and let us know what you think it would be much appreciated. Thanks
I bought "Little Johnny Jewel" at Golden Disc Records in 1976, and have been a fan of this band since then. They changed my life from the moment I heard them.
I was disappointed by Lloyd's absence on this day, but Jimmy did a great job.
When Tom Verlaine was being screamed at to get off stage because of the park's noise cerfew.. he looked over his shoulder at the stage manager, gave a nic little smirk, and then went back to abusing his Stratocaster for the end of Marquee Moon.
It was faaantastic. One of the best shows I have seen.. and I've gone to 80+ shows in my life
Wanna see the real deal? Check out Fred Smith w/ the Revelons at Bowery Ballroom from last summer. That's the band that still has it.But for some reason they rarely do a show.
You know, it's a pity this age illusion pervades human thought. Old, young, ages measured in double digits of circuits around the sun, it's all trivial next to the time it takes a rock to fall out of a cliff, or a galaxy to implode. So just enjoy now, dumbass.
the "other guitarist" is Jimmy Ripp and he's amazing...I may prefer Richard Lloyd (but while Ripp didn't take the Lloyd role here, he has when he's played with Verlaine's solo bands)...I hope they do one more with Lloyd (this was supposed to be the farwell gig) as Lloyd has announced they are over on his official website...sigh...Blessings
" Why would any organizer want Television to leave the stage, that's one of the seven wonders of the world."
because Television is a great band, because it doesn't seem right to have a band that everybody talk about play at last in front of people who know shit about one of the best band in the world (with Pere Ubu). if only people have memory we may have another Television's album...
They sound great. I'd sit in smelly Port-a-Potty if I had to to hear Television do "Venus".

"I fell into the arms of Venus de Milo."
This has to be one of the most ingenius lyrics in all of music!

This song is a lot of fun to play. While learning it the other day I realized the genius it takes to write something this awesome.

I love Television, and for me this is a very sad site. I thought I might've been able to see them reasonably decent before they burnt out..ah well.

Well, you probably weren't at this show...
