HBK is the TRUE leader of the attitude era that began in 1997!! Austin was never main stream until he won the WWF champion from HBK at Wrestlemania 14..Lets be serious HBK was the top guy and the top heel of the company at the time while Austin was still in the intercontinental lane...
Man I miss watching that guy every week. It's just not the same anymore. Wrestlemania 27 without him on the card stealing the show like he always does just seemed odd as well. Something was just missing without Shawn there. Awesome returns vid from 1998 though.
Shawn Michaels vs The Rock in 1999-2001 would have been one of the greatest matches of all time, bar none. Just too much star power with those two. I wish...
@Mile816 Yeah, supposedly HBK acted like a jerk towards Rock during his '96-'97. I personally think a lot of that subsided because I remembered , at the HOF a couple of years ago, he pointed out that HBK was on his list of Wrestlers he'd like to still face or wished he competed against.
@Mile816 This is true, but it's still a blessing in disguise because had it not been for the career ending back injury, he probably wouldn't be here with us. But I also do think about the dream matches that could've came out of HBK vs "WWE Top Stars' from 1999-2001. Prime Angle, Prime RVD, Prime Eddie Guerrero, Prime Kane, The Rock, Booker T etc the list goes on and on.
@badguy95 not to mention his storyline with Austin could have keep on going for a long time after WM14... more great matches between them with the title going back and forth for a while... heel DX could have joined Vnce to bring Austin down...
the list of the things he could have been envolded in between 98 and 2001 is ENDLESS...
i mean how GREAT would have been if Shawn would have been part of the invasion storyline in 2001....
it has nothing to do with his back injury, he could have done it right after Wrestlemania 14 and come back as a wrestler in early 1999 but he wanted to be a family guy....then he spent all of his money and came back in 2002 as a poor old guy
@mancalledstinger Have you ever had reconstructive surgery on your back? I have. If he came back within a year he could have easily been paralyzed. Furthermore, he wasn't a "family guy" in 1999. He didn't fully accept Christ into his life and all that jazz until the year of his return. He was married in '99, but in '99-2000 he was still a dickhead, was still taking drugs, and would have loved to be WWF champion again. That wouldn't change for a few years...
BS. HBK had a match in January 2000 in his own wrestling company (TWA). he wrestled Venom for the title and won. that was only 10 months after his back surgery.
that means he could have come back @ Royal Rumble 2000.
instead, he came bacl later as an old looking man wearing tights with hearts on it. ridiculous
@mancalledstinger LOL! In TWA there was no pressure to perform at a certain level, AND he didn't have to be medically cleared. Are you seriously comparing wrestling a developmental talent to the workrate Shawn had in WWE?! And the Rumble of all events? Are you insane? YOU go have back surgery, then try having a match of the caliber expected of HBK in WWE.
What's with you saying he "came back as an old man"? 2000-02 is 2 f'n yrs. TWO YEARS! TWO!!!
That comment is ALMOST as stupid as comparing wrestling one match in TWA to full time in WWE at the level HBK is known for.
Lol I'm not crippled. I'm sure surgery has made me way tougher than you'll ever be. More importantly, it means I know what I'm talking about. So you took a cheap shot to avoid admitting you're wrong. You're a PUNK and you have no clue what you're talking about. It's probably best that you just shut up
@mancalledstinger Also, how was he a "poor old guy"? It was 4 years later lol!
Please tell me whether you're stating facts or your opinion. If this is fact I want to see a credible source that says he was medically cleared to compete in 1999 and that he only returned in 2002 because he was no longer financially stable. It could be true, but I don't buy it until I see documentation.
If you're just stating your opinion, don't say it like its a fact because there's a huge difference
