Teach him to use one step at a time, just like you do too, dahh!!. Cover his eyes with one hand and with the other help him, such a way he can see only one step at a time, not the whole downfall which is what scares them such. One step in one direction, then sig sag in the other until he gets used to it. Never force him to run downstairs (you demo it first if you can). Best way is front legs first down, twist his body a bit side ways while walking into step, then repeat in the other direction.
@SareneANDme I didn't see her once attempt to pull the puppy down the stairs, she merely blocked him from going to the side with her hand which could be because the puppy could fall down or so that he wouldn't walk into the wall :)
@SareneANDme :) Luckily our Samoyed wasn't as nervous going down the stairs, I think it's easier to get them used to going upstairs so they get a feel for them. Now when we go up them she jumps up them 2 at a time O_O
Alot of people out there say puppies shouldn't use stairs until they are at least 6 months - 1 year. When Snow had her check up we mentioned this and the vet told us that stairs aren't really an issue, its only when it's flights of stairs :)
What a awesome little puppy. My westie is 9yrs and she still afraid to go up and down the stairs , she's even don't jump on or down the sofa our the chairs.
Such a darling is your Alfie! Our Westie Angus would bark to get up and down on the sofa which was actually quite low when he was tiny. Lovely memories of puppyhood!
cute i got a westie called alfie we had him from about 8 weeks, its only from pictures we realise how small he was got a vid of him on my page if ne1 gives a crap lol.
When my westie was a puppy, we took him to a staircase cut into the side of a hill near my house to teach him how to run stairs. He'd only do it if he could run full-out, so we'd run with him up and down the stairs. He thought it was a game, so now he takes off every time he sees a staircase outside and we have to sprint along behind him with the leash.

The greatest challenge of a dogs life, right here. After this it's smooth sailing, pooping, eating, and sleeping.
