  • Thanks for uploading this very original scoring of the Royal Fireworks Music. The performance is excellent and very authentic. It is good that Handel did not take up his legal career after he graduated from Halle, otherwise, we may not be able to hear this great music.

  • BTW, am I the only one who thinks John Williams is one of the trumpet players?

  • Hearing "La Rejouissance", makes you want to learn how to play the trumpet.

  • Great. I love jazz.

  • I like this interpretation, it's very excellent!.

  • Great performance

  • OMG listen to that double-bassoon on Minuet 1!

  • Very nice interpretation!!

  • Period instruments, way cool! (@MrEriesal more like early 1700s)

And by the way, I'm pretty sure ManicParroT's comment was meant to be humorous, no need for all the negative votes. I thought it was pretty funny.

  • So good to listen to

  • Bravo....bravo.....now I know how the instruments of 1800s (I suppose) sound. Wonderfully performed.

  • @MrEriesal 1700s.

  • podria estar mejor, pero no esta nada mal

  • Great video! Handel is my favorite and this is my favorite version of his Royal Fireworks Music. Does anyone know where you can buy a copy of this on DVD or CD?

  • Magnifique !

  • The Conductor looks like a Thunderbirds puppet.

  • Bellissimo...

  • Handel is Glory

  • Look he`s a young man who is enjoying himself and they all seem to be with him as i did not know handel so had no way of knowing how he wanted this played i just enjoy the music/sound . . . .

  • I knew Handel. He'd have hated this. Hated it.

  • I've been looking for this clip for at least two hours. The ending of this is superb! Thanks for posting.

  • Handel !!!, genial, es uno de sus temas mas conocidos... por supuesto BUENISIMO !!, saludos de Peru

  • grootjes van belgië!

  • Oh come now, people. Handel is brilliant, this performance is phenomenal, and the conductor is sexy. What more could you ask for?

  • why cannot people just enjoy the music i am one of those working class poeple (a butler by trade) that love this for what it is amusic that was writen 250 years ago and still play . . .

  • I think the musicians playing the baroque trumpets are doing a phenomenal job. There's no way I could do this on baroque trumpet. Nice job! (=

  • Actually it is easier than you think since most Baroque trumpets (a misnomer) have tuning holes to asist intonation as opposed to the original natural trumpets were the lips alone were used (and other aspects to lengthy to write in the comments). I agree, a very satisfying performance.

  • i love the oboes in this peice

  • Menuet part 8:21 to 9:06 is amazing...

one of the best of Handel..

  • This is the first time I've seen someone perform "The Robot" dance while conducting. =)

    he he

  • Radość!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • Good to see a performance on wind instruments, as Handel intended.

  • Very nice though the Conductor is unconventional.

  • dont you know? thats the making of a good conductor

  • in what vein are you speaking?

  • i dont understand what you meant by "in what vein"

  • by "in what vein", are you speaking sarcastically or seriously?

  • seriously, if you look at most good conductors in the world, when they conduct they all look like madmen, it is because they are so absorbed into the piece that they forgot everything else in the world and devote their entire being and spirit into the conducting of the piece.

  • then, we differ both musically and spiritually.

  • I see, that is fine, no two people appreciate the same things, and I respect that.

  • I can't answer in his stead, but I would say that unconventional means adding your own style to a work without disrespecting the nature of the piece. This conductor, especially in combination with the baroque instruments does that fantastically (at least in my opinion).

  • by "unconventional", I mean that the conductor's style does not adhere to any musical norm for conducting and throwing all conducting rules and guidelines to the wind even the broadest, most general (i.e, least restrictive) rules and guidelines.

  • I once had a conductor who conducted us by leaning forward, moving backward, etc. just for demonstration purposes. He said, and I agree, that as long as the conductor is communicating the music to the other performers, he is doing his job.

By the way, I'd say that one of the most general (least restrictive) rule is that the conductor must stay on the podium, and our conductor here does that quite nicely.

  • "He said, and I agree, that as long as the conductor is communicating the music to the other performers, he is doing his job." Well said. I strongly agree with your point.

  • ik ook!

  • Ik begrijp het niet. Spreekt u het Engels, het Frans, of het Spaans?

  • Jep - engels en frans. En jij?

  • I prefer this conductor's style to the facial grimaces that Leonard Bernstein used in his adhering to the musical norm. At least he isn't using a baton, and the performance is beautiful.

  • Ohh!! La Rejouissance,what a beautiful work!!

  • I like how the Contrabassoon adds depth to the whole piece.

  • I believe the bassoons are modern and replace the serpents that H originally scored.

  • Originally, Handel had bass line parts written in the manuscript for the serpent, but he cut those out before the performance. Serpents were not used in the dress rehersal nor in the performance. The Bassoons of what I can see appear to be modern reproductions of Baroque Bassoons. Handel did write for Serpent for other works, however, so did Beethoven and Berlioz.

  • I love the 'bassoon cam' shot in part 1!!

  • I had no idea they used to make contrabassoons straight. That thing is a beast!

  • Indeed Handel is the greatest composer. Thank God he lived a long life, and we have volumenous amounts of his compositions to listen to.

  • im pretty sure crispian steele-perkins is playing in there. i think he is last trumpet on the left

  • The FIRST trumpet on the left! :)

  • That`s the way to play Handels firework music which I like.

  • Commenting on Beethoven.

Beethoven once commented, "Handel is the unnattained master of all masters. Go to him and learn how to produce great effects with scant deploy of means."

  • "Handel is the greatest composer of all time, why, I'd gladly kneel before his tomb out of respect!" (Beethoven) [paraphrased]

  • oh my, coming from Beethoven that means a lot. Well said well said.

  • I fully agree: Handel is the greatest composer of all time

  • La Rejouissance is a lively piece which is probably the most played part of the piece on radio.

  • And now it's used in an advertisement bashing Verizon.

    Sir Charge!

  • Indeed! Haven't seen it here though. The more Haendel, the better! Something with Zadok the Priest would be ideal.

  • This is super! Thank you so much for posting it.

  • translation please

  • That's the translation of what Fredelatorsion written: "Amazing version, a little "Military" with no doubt, but it's probably this way -seeing the circumstances- that this should be played. Great"

  • Version surprenante, un peu "militaire" sans doute, mais c'est probablement ainsi - vu les circonstances - que cela devait être joué. Génial !
