  • hey man good video but do your self a favor and learn the "iron pipe size "nominal measurements so folks ask for the right stuff at the store. 1/2 id ,5/8 od threaded pipe and fittings is 1/2 inch I.P.S ,just a plumbers input

but other than that great work

  • can you make a video on how to make a parachute unit so it doesnt smash to pieces

  • massa

  • Hi from Chile! I have a cuestion, its possible make my self a rocket ?thankz!

  • @jonasreinoso1 Anything's possible my friend. :)

  • Where could I get o2 or nos?

  • @420hooray car shop

  • can you scale this up and make it propel a model rocket?

i want to make a liquid fueled engine i have all the machines and tools but do i need supercooled or compressed liquid oxigen?

  • @soverato3 You can scale the idea but not the parts. If your going to have a small liquid engine you really don't need to cool it, you just cant run it for a long time and you will probably have to build in some type of heatsink to dissipate some of the heat. You don't need liquid oxygen for a liquid fueled engine you can use gas, the only reason they use it on real rockets is because you can carry much more than gaseous. If I were you I would do a lot more research before building.

  • @soverato3 u can also use rc nitro car gaseline/diesel but becareful its highly flamebale

if u use this type of liquid make sure evrything is closed tightly but anyway u can make on more ways a great

rocket engine this methode is very easy but very dangerous i wouldnt choose it if i were u

  • @M4DJE ok.. i want to make a 2stage giant rocket with a liquid fueled engine as second stage. i was thinking of using liquid oxigen and liquid butane or propane but if you think rc car fuel (25%nitro?) will work better... ill give it a try! :D thnx for the info i will let you know when i have tested it :D the engine is nearly done

so testing can start soon =) its a V-2 based engine but scaled down to +- 50kg thrust (hopefully haha)

    cheers :D

  • I have been trying to make this however, Where do you buy your oxygen tanks. My local store only sells benzomatic tanks but they do not have hoses, just torch attachments.

  • @1234567890col I used a medical oxygen tank for the videos but later upgraded to welding oxygen tanks. You can sometimes find full oxygen tanks at flea markets. Other than that the only option are Benzomatic mapp gas and oxygen welding kits at some hardware stores but they are getting hard to find.

  • @jrbpyro101 Thanks for the advice, I got That benzomatic tank. How much PSI would you say is in the engine?

  • @1234567890col With this engine I ran oxygen tanks with Liter per minute increments and I would usually run it at about 15 LPM. With something like this I would recommend buying a gas, specifically an oxygen flow meter rather than using a pressure gauge.

  • i did this same thing with sugar rockets

  • How would you attach this to a hobby rocket? Could You make a Video Pls?

  • @TheJMAN12365 This particular engine isn't made for model rockets, there just simply is not enough power. I will eventually get some videos up on larger homemade engines but other hobbies have taken priority.

  • i wanna make a rocket like the ones in the movie october sky but havnt found a way to make a stable engine any suggestions (it has to be metal)

  • where am i suppost to find polyethylene??

  • @perebraco Why don't you check the hardware store

  • @perebraco

    Homedepo!

  • Why dont you show us how looks a launch of rocket with these engine???

  • why does it load so slow

  • teflon tape might make it work better. correct me if im wrong

  • Just a little advice, if you can find some nitrous oxide then use it. Oxygen can be unstable, it works but when it goes wrong it goes wrong big time. Plus nitrous oxide self regulates to last longer ect.

  • dude, i cant find any of this, can u just give me the website of the place u bought this from

  • I went into like 7 stores looking for the dimensions you spoke of and i found that no stores had them. I even looked online

  • Can u list your parts a little more thoroughly? Is the First Barbed hose described a swivel, a female etc etc?

  • what can this do?

  • have you ever made a suger rocket?

  • what sort of thrust do you think this engine can produce?

  • @FlyHighRC386 Not much, probably less than a half pound, if even that. Its was mainly built to give people an idea on how to build hybrid engines and what the basic fundamentals of a hybrid engine are. This summer I will probably be posting videos on much larger engines that are somewhat useful.

  • Hey!! What are you doing with your crack pipe on there!! Smoke them rocks!!XD

  • could you use CO2 as the oxidizer?...becas as many ppl no co2 is carbon oxide...just wonder =P

  • @brandonsg123 no, the bonds between the carbon & oxygen are too strong

  • @brandonsg123 co2 is used to put out fires not fuel them

  • whats the point if its connected to an oxygen tank?

make some shit fly or at least hook that shit up to your bike

  • Have you considered getting a nozzle machined and trying to fly this rocket?

  • @k0namiman I have but I didn't for two reasons. The first one is that if I were to go through the trouble of getting a nozzle machined I may as well and build a good large engine. The second is that its mainly meant as a demo and a learning experience to get people started on larger more complex designs.

  • @jrbpyro101

WHY DO WE NEED POLetheraye why not just ignite the oxygen

  • @recon1283 First off you cant ignite oxygen, its an oxidizer. Second, you don't necessarily need polyethylene specifically you can pretty much use anything as a fuel. But polyethylene tube is widely available and able to be easily put into small engines.

  • @recon1283

Oxygen is an oxidizer, it makes things burn, it doesn't burn itself.

  • look like it has a heigh risk of exploding and as for re-using it it will increase the risk of exploding

  • @LEONIDASTREEHUNDRED All rockets have a high risk of exploding, A rocket is just a controlled, directed explosion. It's a risk one takes when hobbying with rocketry.

  • how it runs ?

  • what did you use as oxygen tank?

  • can we use this with kno3?

  • that is such dirty... do not breath that exaust

  • What would you recomend using for the oxygen tank?

  • @TheLavaLamp101 I hooked an oxygen tank straight up to the engine.

  • Does it have to be brass and how can I make it bigger.

  • @19adobe20wv I doesn't necessarily have to be brass, I just used it because of its wide availability and cheap price. I personally haven't experimented with anything else besides stainless steel so I wouldn't know first hand what you can and cant use, but I would say your fine with anything except copper. Finally if your getting much bigger Id suggest testing it remotely or behind a shield in case it over pressurizes and explodes.

  • will it also work with regular compressed air?

  • @flexer94 No, it must be pure oxygen or another oxidizer

  • @beamonkee2 I'm not sure what your asking exactly. You need the oxygen or some type of oxidizer with the use of a hybrid engine.

  • Have you considered makeing a liquard fuel setup? Im guessing it will require a bit more thought obv as youl need some sort of regulator to pre mix the fuel and air but you seem to have the skills :P

  • @nickoswoos I have all the equipment and materials to make a liquid fueled engine, but at the moment all of my money and time is going to my fusor so that project is going to be a little down the road. Maybe in a year or so I will finally get around to building one.

  • do i have to use pure oxigen or can i use compressed air ???or air out of an RC creaning spray can????

  • Try a mixture of candel wax and carbon for fuel

  • sounds stupid but what is hybird ?

  • @zakamooza hybrid usually means two or more techniques used together, or something, like a hybrid car is electric and gasoline.

In this case, it means two fuels, he is using both oxygen and polyethelyne.

  • or....How to build a simple pipe bomb.

  • Simple, but it could work. Right now, were working on hybrid engine using as a oxidant N2O. Check our videos.

  • Comment removed

  • It works! :) . Thank you so much, :P .

  • Good work!

  • @jrbpyro101 but i saw it at stors thy are expensive there like 100$ for 1 liter or kg i dont remember

  • @szuszi2 Yes that is about the average price for a small oxygen tank and they are usually 10 or 15 cubic feet I believe. I have 5 of them and it took me a lot of saving to get them. Some times you can find them at flea markets but you usually have to have them inspected if they have passed their "expiration" date and then get them filled.

  • @szuszi2 you can also try going to a hospitol or any sort of medical practice (a dentist for example) and ask for some low/empty o2 tanks. i had a connection with someone so that probably helped but its worth a shot to ask

  • @mikeandike76 i got one of they contacts, he's called me dad, apart from he get full O2 tanks :D gonna have to try this

  • @CornishMorgan ok dont kill yourself lol

  • Okay, so today I went to purchase the parts and was all set with assembling it. I sort of tweaked some dimensions, because my local hardware store did not have the certain dimensions you enlisted. I also bought some polyethylene tubes for the fuel source. Would an air compressor release oxygen or no? I tried it the exact way you showed, but still no results. The fire just lit when it was being ignited by the torch, but once I removed it, it died out. Would I need pure oxygen to make it work?

  • @AskTheGeeks You have to use pure oxygen, not compressed air. Compressed air only has about 20% oxygen in it.

  • Might be a stupid question but is a glue stick from a hot glue gun polyethylene?

  • @vignesh12300 No, it is primarily sodium stearate. But the beauty of the hybrid engine is you can use pretty much anything as a fuel, at least anything that is solid and can be lit on fire (you can use liquid but then that would be a liquid fueled engine). You can use glue sticks but you would have to make it into a tube so the oxygen can pass through it. I have used many fuels in this engine and the reason I recommended polyethylene is because it is easy to use in it compared to other fuels.

  • where do i get oxigen?

  • @szuszi2 You can buy oxygen at welding supply stores or you can make it by electrolysis but then you would have to compress it and that could be very hard for the average person.

  • Where can I buy a polyethylene tube or even make one?

    Thank you.

    -AskTheGeeks

  • @AskTheGeeks You can buy it usually at your local hardware store

  • @jrbpyro101 Thank you! I was trying to make this, but I was having difficulties finding a source of polyethylene. I will ask more questions if I need it.

    Again, thank you.

    -AskTheGeeks

  • thats wat she said!

  • it works just with oxygen and polyethylene ?

    or something else?

  • @1996enes Just oxygen and polyethylene tube. Its simplicity is amazing.

  • can u even lunch this if so, do u need a oxygen tank?

  • @Ashtonea64 You could probably launch it but i dont know how much thrust it puts, and you would need a oxygen tank

  • what do you use for fuel

  • Polyethylene tube

  • can i use casoline?

  • I assume you mean gasoline, and if so then your getting into liquid fueled rocket engines, and you will need lathes and mills and such to build one.

  • @jrbpyro101 sorry for the speling. but can i make one which flys?because the gasoline explodes last time in the tests boom shit was crazy i have burnt all my fingers and created a new bomb. the plastic bottle had burnt in seconds!

  • @OldSnakeKonovesis Of course you can make one fly but you need to be careful about what you make it out of. Rockets usually take a bit of time to be able to determine how to build one properly.

  • @jrbpyro101 ok tnx if imake a good one il show it to you!!

  • Impressive. However, I've been trying to figure out a simple way to have the rocket carry its own propellant but allow me to release the oxidizer from a distance. (other than pulling a string)

  • Well if you are very familiar with electronics that can be easily pulled off, otherwise it might not be that easy. The easiest way to put it you would need a solenoid valve, some controller electronics, and a wireless receiver and transmitter. You would hook something like that up so you can wirelessly open a solenoid vale form the oxidizer tank to the combustion chamber

  • You need to make a Pyro Paste, Take Acetone-Pinpon balls-Gun Power-Magnesium, Mix it all together and you get a paste that will harden like epoxy and will burn very fast with just a lighter. Use this mix to cover a small hole that leads to your oxidizer, (Compressed Oxidizer/Fitting w/hole/ Pyro over the hole) Allow the mix to dry (Over night) then use some steel wool with a 9 volt battery with a little wet pyro on it and when it starts to burn inside your fuel area it will release the oxidizer

  • I would post try it but im not to hot on making a rocket with metal parts...

  • you don't have to use oxygen..

you can also use nitrogen oxide (N2O) liquid.

    works perfect!

but watch out eith those things! there is a small differents between a rocket ore a Bomb

    grzz

  • is it just just oxygen or liquid oxygen?

  • it is gaseous oxygen

  • Great video but I have a couple questions.

Where did you get your oxygen tank? How big was it?

    Thanks

  • Thanks,

i used a medical oxygen tank i bought at a flea market, since then i have bought a welding oxygen tank and regualtor and have yet to post a video. if you have any other questions please ask!

  • woo i was your 400th viewer

  • mmm how you provide Oxygen?

  • an oxygen tank

  • o, ok, i said nothing ;)

    XD

  • make a vid of the engine in action

  • Very informative. Thanks for posting.
