Thank God for YouTube - this is manna for all us music aficionados out here, esp. with Otis, because even though he's been around awhile, as well as a mainstay on the Chicago blues scene, he does not have an extensive amount of recordings. Thanks for the post, I will revisit often!
@S:King b'23, 1st rec'53, 1st min.hit'59, 1st big hit: "Don't Throw Your Love..." '61 /// Rush, b'35, 1st single: "I Can't Quit You...", big hit'56. / "1st" means many things: King's 12yrs older, was recording 3yrs sooner, but Otis had the 1st big hit. / Brooks, b'33, 1st hit,"Family Rules" '57, always had a C&W tinge, & probably wore a hat 1st. Gatemouth Brown, b'48,1st hit '49, had more than a tinge of C&W & wore the hat long before either of them. Trivia: King, Rush, Brown: All born in April.
yeah, but if you really want to die and go to blues heaven look for Otis doing "Rock". I have it on record "Chicago/The Blues/Today" Lord knows where it might be today.
I've seen Otis twice, both times at a small club in L.A. in the early '90s. He could wrench the best blues tone I've ever heard out of his guitar & amp.
right on.. Otis Rush and R.L Burnside are the greatest in my opinion. All you hear about is howlin wolf and muddy waters... but otis and burnside are the originators.. they take me on a journey into another world.
@DazDisaster Don't let Otis Rush hear you say that---he'll be the first to tell you Muddy came before him (and damn near anyone else in Chicago) . . . ;)
Merry Xmas Otis - may your music live another 2011 years !

You got it -- The Music Machine. Haven't been there since. Is it still there? Yep, we were fortunate to see Otis still in his (extended) prime.
