  • What makes the Royal Family above execution. They are human beings like anyone else.

Many people starved because of their ignorance.

  • its just a movie, not everything has to be accurate....just fuckin enjoy the movie

  • @douglasmatley

You should watch the Russian movie "Agony" here on youtube. Best, most realistic portrayal of Rasputin. The whole movie itself is a wonderful example of the rich Russian cinema.

  • Oh... those Russians!

  • Alan Rickman would make a brilliant dracula/vampire in general, especially with this accent

  • @VendettaKissXx yesssssssssssssssssssss!

  • Hey Alan Rickman A similar suit in Harry Potter. haha

  • This casting is fantastic! Ian McKellen really looks like Nicholas the II ... even has the pale blue eyes.

  • @amatoanima Could portray king George of the UK as well. He and the tsar were very similar in facial appearances.

  • LMAO . I think you guys are hypnotized by Rasputin .

  • Alan Rickman is doing a good job interpreting Rasputin. Tom Baker in "Nicholas and Alexandra" is my vote for the best portrayal of Rasputin. Doug

  • Gandalf is not looking bad in this movie, pretty sexy really. Let's face it though, Alan Rickman can't be beat! :)

  • how much is fictional vs. factual?!

  • @TheMichelArm I studied alot of Russian history at the university, its fairly accurate, but the time is a little bit skewed, there were some decisions that Rasputin had more of a say in... he really acted really insane at times but they gave him alot more political power and asked alot more of his input than what is shown in this movie... also it is true that everytime he talked to Alexi, the bleeding would stop

  • @CommieThreat He didn't sleep with the Tsarina either according to most historians

  • @TheBren93 I never said he did, and neither did this movie...

  • @CommieThreat I know you never, I was merely pointing out inaccuracies, just like you yourself did. And yes it did, there's an entire scene where he sleeps with her.....

  • @TheBren93 what scene is that? He slept with the duchess in the movie, the one who said she was a sinner, that wasnt the tzarina

  • @CommieThreat Ah, sorry, my mistake.

  • @TheMichelArm Who cares?

  • I'm kinda pissed that the Emperor told his wife 2x he loved her and she said nothing back. What a bitch..

  • ok...for the record, when his Prime Minister barges into his office to tell him about the Archduke being murdered and he first look back up....it totally looks like the Czar is just smoking a huge doobie hahah

  • 0:02 through 0:14 I'M IN A RAAAAGE!

  • Pause

    Zooooom

    FACE

    Love it.

  • 8:26 he's wearing Snape-robes!!

  • 3:39 wtf is John Wilkes Booth doing in Tsarist Russia??

  • rasputin was the ppls image and soul, drunken, insane, starving man that would do and increase every chance to survive in animal instinct sort of way, the man was animal like, think he was the bridge between closed royal family and real russia, by denying him they denied russia ppl itself

  • What is it with this Czar his people are starving and he doesnt seem to care he should sell some of that gold he has littering his house and utensils and clothing to feed the masses it probably wouldnt even feed much of them but at least it would show he was with them. He was way prideful its a shame he was told or asked by one of his servents that he should try breaking down the barrier between him and his people for that comment he disowned the servent

  • 7:46 Severus Snape!! LOL:P

  • WAIT IS THAT ONE GUY GANDALF at 02:48

oh god i'm dying of laughter he used that same ''Ohmy!'' face in lord of the rings when he discovers something bad in a book.

  • What a scam

  • Start of WW1, the catalyst for WW2; 10's of millions of dead people- wonder if history would have been better for Europe if the Romanoffs had stayed in their seats?

  • Stolypin (the prime minister) was assassinated in 1911, 3 years before the outbreak of war. i love how Holywood makes up history

  • Who's that guy that was killed in the beginning, I never read about that part.

  • This painting reveals a neat bit of history. Alexandra was in possession of one of the most famous paintings of Marie Antoinette, one of the last before the French Revolution. It hung in her salon at the Alexander Palace until the Russian Revolution.

  • Anyone else think of Snape with what Rasputin is wearing? It's not as long but still it's Snape-like. lol. Also the winding stairs remind me of Harry Potter too. haha! Love Alan Rickman!!

  • Excuse Me, this question is very irrelevent, but I gotta now. Rasputin had a wife and three kids, why isnt she in this movie?

  • @WolfsbaneRevolution She didn't live in St Petersburg and is not relevant to any of the events that make Rasputin a historical figure.

  • she did come and live in st petersburg-her coming into film would be good.

  • WTF why did Nicholas die?

  • In reality it was a telegraph and not a phone call. I guess its historical license.

  • 09:30 they were mad. just the priest with his cross was missing there in the middle of the war

  • whats the music @ 3.00 anyone? Thanks

  • When your incompetence cost millions of lives you should at least pay with yours. BTW It was just o matter of time before you bring up the Bolsheviks. Nicholas disserved to die even if the Bolsheviks were worst than him (and I agree, they ended up been worst than he).

  • Mmmm... Well, I can't agree with that. I don't believe anyone should be murdered like that for mistakes and incompetance, no matter what. Losing his throne and country was punishment enough. Anything else is just blind hatred and brutal vengance. Besides, like I said, even the cheif killer admitted the former Tsar was no monster and I sympathize more with Nicholas then I ever did for Lenin and the Bolsheviks or Stalin.

  • Stalin was the most evil human who ever lived !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Nicholas did not deserve to die, no human being 'deserves' to die. He was a Tsar, but he was also a human, who was loved by his wife and children, whom he loved in return. We should remember that as well.

  • @UsagiDreams I totally agree! No royal person should ever be executed by their own people. I'm not a royalist! but it makes me sad that people could become so consumed with hatred and be brainwashed to carry out the murder of a royal family. Instead they should have exiled them, or do what the chinese did to their emperor, Allow him to remain but as a citizen and a gardener that he was fond of. Whatever the Bolsheviks said about the tsar, he was and is their rightful ruler.

  • @UsagiDreams I agree partially. He did not deserve to die, yes, but his actions were still unsound. Yet, I agree that the murder of his wife and children was inexcusable; no matter what the results may have been, infantcide is not justifiable.

  • Nicholas did not deserve to be murdered and especially his family !

  • 5:56-6:53 - Alan Rickman's calming baritones soothing away the pain - this *actually* works! As tried and tested on toothache.

  • shouldnt the military have bee skilled in how to run a war, insted of asking rasputin? what would he know he was a faith healer

  • The reason Rasputin was consulted for strategy was because in the absence of Nicholas, Alexandra became Queen Regent and had little experience of her own.

  • 8:31, wow, snape with a beard!!!!

  • One gun per 4 russian soldiers VS every german soldier having his own automatic gun. Russia had and still has the largest potential in the world, but their management fucks up and fucks up hard.

  • Comment removed

  • see that is why i do not trust theathers BECAUSE SAME BADY MAY TRY TO KILL SAME BADY BUT BY MINSTACK THEY SHOT ME!

  • omg its the start of ww1

  • If it wasn't for Ian McKellen I wouldn't like Nic II in this movie at all. He was a totalitarian douche just like his father.

  • I don't like Nicholas either. He was a horrible ruler, and didn't do much to help the starving peasants. However, I don't believe that he deserved to die the way he did.

  • May be his family didn't deserve to die the way they did, but Nicholas did deserve his fate but I think they should had have what Trotsky wanted, put him on trial and hang him.

  • No, not at all. Whatever Nicholases mistakes and failures as a ruler, he was by no means an evil man, nor did he deserve to be murdered, even the cheif killer, Yurovsky admitted that.

  • I don't care if he was evil or not, that's not the point, he was a murder, a ruthless tyrant that deserves the ultimate punishment for his crimes.

  • No, he was just an incompetant ruler, and whatever his flaws, mistakes and failures-however costly- they pale in comparison to Lenin, the Bolsheviks and Stalin. Taking his throne and country from him was punishment enough. If anything, the Bolsheviks did more harm to their own cause by making him and his family martyrs.

  • This scene is quite inaccurate historically in regards to pre-war political conditions in Russia. By this time Austria was looking for any excuse to crush Serbia to expand the Austrian empire's power and stop pan-slavism in the Balkans. The Tsar knew all of this. It wasn't like the war was a surprise, it had been coming for years (see Balkan war I+II)

  • right~

  • @Lefty001 The 'surprise' is the same as the Bourbons of France towards the Revolution or Charles I of England that a Royal would actually be assasinated or executed. Nikolai would expect his 'brother' monarchs to side with the Royals. The drama catches that with his belief Wilhelm would not act against his class despite the Treaties and situation.

  • @kybelian

    Very pertinent anylysis, excellent.

  • @Lefty001 Yeah the world was boiling. And Austro-Hungary didn't want any other country counter-balance their power in Europe. Not Serbs, not Bulgarians, not Romanians...nobody.And when Austria and Hungary are united under the protection and alliance of Germany(which at the time was huge)it's only natural for a war to start.

  • @Lefty001 NERD!! HAHA!! Just kidding!! XD

  • It keeps telling me sorry this vid is no longer available :( why only part 8:'(

  • sometimes that happens to me on youtube, also. Try hitting back on your browser and then clicking forward, sometimes that tricks it into looading for some reason. Hope that helps

  • Thx :)

  • What opera are they watching?

  • It is Norma by Bellini.

  • Lol! Those clothes are like, completely Snape.

  • Father Gregorie seems like a guy who can get things done. The only prob w/him is that I think he was hooked on ExtenZe.
