You should watch the Russian movie "Agony" here on youtube. Best, most realistic portrayal of Rasputin. The whole movie itself is a wonderful example of the rich Russian cinema.
@TheMichelArm I studied alot of Russian history at the university, its fairly accurate, but the time is a little bit skewed, there were some decisions that Rasputin had more of a say in... he really acted really insane at times but they gave him alot more political power and asked alot more of his input than what is shown in this movie... also it is true that everytime he talked to Alexi, the bleeding would stop
@CommieThreat I know you never, I was merely pointing out inaccuracies, just like you yourself did. And yes it did, there's an entire scene where he sleeps with her.....
ok...for the record, when his Prime Minister barges into his office to tell him about the Archduke being murdered and he first look back up....it totally looks like the Czar is just smoking a huge doobie hahah
rasputin was the ppls image and soul, drunken, insane, starving man that would do and increase every chance to survive in animal instinct sort of way, the man was animal like, think he was the bridge between closed royal family and real russia, by denying him they denied russia ppl itself
What is it with this Czar his people are starving and he doesnt seem to care he should sell some of that gold he has littering his house and utensils and clothing to feed the masses it probably wouldnt even feed much of them but at least it would show he was with them. He was way prideful its a shame he was told or asked by one of his servents that he should try breaking down the barrier between him and his people for that comment he disowned the servent
Start of WW1, the catalyst for WW2; 10's of millions of dead people- wonder if history would have been better for Europe if the Romanoffs had stayed in their seats?
This painting reveals a neat bit of history. Alexandra was in possession of one of the most famous paintings of Marie Antoinette, one of the last before the French Revolution. It hung in her salon at the Alexander Palace until the Russian Revolution.
Anyone else think of Snape with what Rasputin is wearing? It's not as long but still it's Snape-like. lol. Also the winding stairs remind me of Harry Potter too. haha! Love Alan Rickman!!
When your incompetence cost millions of lives you should at least pay with yours. BTW It was just o matter of time before you bring up the Bolsheviks. Nicholas disserved to die even if the Bolsheviks were worst than him (and I agree, they ended up been worst than he).
Mmmm... Well, I can't agree with that. I don't believe anyone should be murdered like that for mistakes and incompetance, no matter what. Losing his throne and country was punishment enough. Anything else is just blind hatred and brutal vengance. Besides, like I said, even the cheif killer admitted the former Tsar was no monster and I sympathize more with Nicholas then I ever did for Lenin and the Bolsheviks or Stalin.
Nicholas did not deserve to die, no human being 'deserves' to die. He was a Tsar, but he was also a human, who was loved by his wife and children, whom he loved in return. We should remember that as well.
@UsagiDreams I totally agree! No royal person should ever be executed by their own people. I'm not a royalist! but it makes me sad that people could become so consumed with hatred and be brainwashed to carry out the murder of a royal family. Instead they should have exiled them, or do what the chinese did to their emperor, Allow him to remain but as a citizen and a gardener that he was fond of. Whatever the Bolsheviks said about the tsar, he was and is their rightful ruler.
@UsagiDreams I agree partially. He did not deserve to die, yes, but his actions were still unsound. Yet, I agree that the murder of his wife and children was inexcusable; no matter what the results may have been, infantcide is not justifiable.
The reason Rasputin was consulted for strategy was because in the absence of Nicholas, Alexandra became Queen Regent and had little experience of her own.
One gun per 4 russian soldiers VS every german soldier having his own automatic gun. Russia had and still has the largest potential in the world, but their management fucks up and fucks up hard.
I don't like Nicholas either. He was a horrible ruler, and didn't do much to help the starving peasants. However, I don't believe that he deserved to die the way he did.
May be his family didn't deserve to die the way they did, but Nicholas did deserve his fate but I think they should had have what Trotsky wanted, put him on trial and hang him.
No, not at all. Whatever Nicholases mistakes and failures as a ruler, he was by no means an evil man, nor did he deserve to be murdered, even the cheif killer, Yurovsky admitted that.
No, he was just an incompetant ruler, and whatever his flaws, mistakes and failures-however costly- they pale in comparison to Lenin, the Bolsheviks and Stalin. Taking his throne and country from him was punishment enough. If anything, the Bolsheviks did more harm to their own cause by making him and his family martyrs.
When your incompetence cost millions of lives you should at least pay with yours. BTW It was just o matter of time before you bring up the Bolsheviks. Nicholas disserved to die even if the Bolsheviks were worst than him (and I agree, they ended up been worst than he).
This scene is quite inaccurate historically in regards to pre-war political conditions in Russia. By this time Austria was looking for any excuse to crush Serbia to expand the Austrian empire's power and stop pan-slavism in the Balkans. The Tsar knew all of this. It wasn't like the war was a surprise, it had been coming for years (see Balkan war I+II)
@Lefty001 The 'surprise' is the same as the Bourbons of France towards the Revolution or Charles I of England that a Royal would actually be assasinated or executed. Nikolai would expect his 'brother' monarchs to side with the Royals. The drama catches that with his belief Wilhelm would not act against his class despite the Treaties and situation.
@Lefty001 Yeah the world was boiling. And Austro-Hungary didn't want any other country counter-balance their power in Europe. Not Serbs, not Bulgarians, not Romanians...nobody.And when Austria and Hungary are united under the protection and alliance of Germany(which at the time was huge)it's only natural for a war to start.
sometimes that happens to me on youtube, also. Try hitting back on your browser and then clicking forward, sometimes that tricks it into looading for some reason. Hope that helps
What makes the Royal Family above execution. They are human beings like anyone else.
Many people starved because of their ignorance.
