I am Dutch and that's great research. I feel New Orleans can not only rebuild, they can make interesting floating homes/ floating paradises for retirement. I feel the US does not only want to lead, they want something special and floating cities is quite special.
There's just one point you missed, is that the Netherlands uses a dedicated tax for water systems (which includes sewerage for example). As far as i know, the US does not have a dedicated tax, nor is that going to be popular.
Those floating houses and communities remind me of this movie called Waterworld x]
Anyway back on topic, I think the US government is plain stupid. How could you not care about protecting your own citizens. They should've done something way before Katrina.
We did...it was on our news...They were warned, told the levees needed 17 pilings in order to maintain. We offered our help to make the deadline if the piling were made available. They flatly told us we weren't needed. But we were even more suprised when all those poor people were left to starve...the movie is on youtube where a dutch journalist reports and takes pity on one of the families and takes them away.
We were shocked honestly, if you need help just say so we offer it every time gladly
I heard there are some Dutch companies involved in creating better protection against water in New Orleans? Not sure if this is correct. Ive been to the Delta works years ago. Very impressive indeed! Cool video. The floating homes (streets etc) seem very futuristic lol (I know there are already some houses built that way). Way cool.
@summersonset You are correct, a number of Dutch engineering firms have been consulted. Moreover, I believe that Dutch engineers warned New Orleans about the state of their levees prior to Katrina. Anyway, let's hope it never happens again.
@WarMarGeoli I think that was just to inspire people to getting into action.:) Also, you're using a particular song's intro in this video, would you care to tell me the name? I've been looking for it for ages.
You know why we are more advanced with water we started sucking the water away in the 16th centurey
And we need to be like this because almost all our big cities lie under the sea.
And our tech. is Ine of the most advanced of the world and where the third most rich countrey in the world.

a bit to much "we are americans, and we are superiour" thinking. The USA was just stupid to not build some strong anti water works.

Great video and presentation. Thank you. Let's do everything we can to rebuild new orleans levees, barrier islands, coast and wetlands.
