This ad shows you how far technology has come. $469 SAVE $10! $629 SAVE $50 What great bargains LOL! These days you can get a cheap and dodgy Chinese LCD/LED/Plasma for $299. I'll give them $20. The lot. Take it or leave it.
I knew David at Channel 10 back in the Prisoner days. He was a lovely guy (except he kept murdering people). Have wondered where he is these days. :-)
I was thinking exactly the same thing. I cant believe how expensive those items were........particularly the television at the end. Today you could pick one up from St. Vincent de Paul for five bucks...........in the unlikely event anyone would want a 1979 television!!
Haha that first Toshiba Tv lol. "Save $10" what a MASSIVE discount, haha I laugh at the kind of crap they used to sell back then, I work for Harvey Norman and obviously technology has come along way since, welcome to NZ Norman Ross!
No remotes on those TV's, I remember Waltons at Liverpool, my dad got a Colour Tv from them, a Kriesler TV it had real wood grain and we had to use the channel selector. We had to get up off our butts to change and yes, we did have fights over it, but dad would win in the end and he comes in and changes it so he could watch the soccer.
@lurchteacher My Mum also bought her TV from Waltons at Liverpool and it's still working and is the only telly in the house. We just leave it on the same channel ;)
I wonder what David Waters is up to these days. Though I actually remember him more for his hosting of Match Mates (a kids' version of Concentration) in the 80s than for his David Jones, Norman Ross and Waltons ads.
If you want to know a little bit about how Harvey Norman started out, GrubcoTV has an very early ad for Harvey Norman from 1982 (when Harvey Norman only had 1 store in Sydney) The ad will explain everything.

Considering the average wage was $150 and half for the majority of working class, that box is one seriously over-priced P.O.S. Nothing has changed.

Its interesting how TVs haven't gone up in price. The average wage in 1979 was around 150 dollars a week. Now its just over 1000.
You can buy flat screen TV for 700 dollars today.
