paperclip is the worst lockpick ive ever used. When you start getting to heavier pins in like Deadbolts and padlocks, you want a steel lockpick or something thats alot firmer. good choice on the tension wrench though

you can use a putty knife with a big chunck cut out near the tip for a tortion wrench if you want too also this is a good gathering tool if you sharpen the inside of the curved edge like a linoleum knife

Many locks now a days have a spool pin inside them. Your approach by just pushing down randomly would leave the spool pin trapped against the inner cylinder. If you want to pick a lock that is stronger than ones on a filing cabinet then you'll have to see/listen what you are picking and push each pin a specific amount.
