@Dystral, all- Not getting these messages till later- How many episodes have we had since February discovering sleeping traffic workers? If you've ever worked this kind of shift, after you go without sleep for so long, you tend to lose your judgment.
No doubt your job was stressful with major implications. However, had you guys gone on strike, there would have been international implications. The AWACS planes couldn't have taken off, the Soviets were watching you test the new President (Reagan), your timing was horrible.
Then you decided that wasn't enough, and so you went for a 100% raise. These demands in a time of runaway inflation, near total chaos in the U.S. at the time.
This is hilarious. I wish I had been old enough to know what was happening in 1981 because that would have made for a good chuckle... seeing a union be totally embarrassed.
Hilarious? You are still too young to understand anything obviously. Reagan destroyed more than Patco. Do you not know that the american mine workers union saved people from slavery by the coal companies? People fought and died just to obtain safer working conditions only to die from black lung for companies that didn't give a damn. I lived in west virginia during Raegan's reign and you my friend need to do your homework.
"Reagan destroyed more than PATCO"... Exactly, that's what made it hilarious. Anything that helps remove the ruse that unions are necessary today and aren't just old 1960's has-beens fighting for job-banks and minimum-wage increases.... it's hilarious. Sorry you don't think so.
@mchel25 Right on! And it looks like we'll have another repeat in Wisconsin: People vilifying the "greedy" teachers. Nevermind that they are teaching the kids who will run our country. Rip off the teachers, you might as well be eviscerating the country. How dare these teachers expect to negotiate salary, working conditions and health benefits? Do they think that teaching should be a long term profession? Ooops, forgot....most teachers burn out after 5 years!
Get the REAL story of the PATCO Strike of 1981. Read my book, "Forgotten Heroes of the Sky PART 1. .Read my story below.
While on You Tube search for AyXjdxtZPS0 It is about 911 and ATC. Very Informative..

Yes, I remember, you wanted and got a 17% raise.
Then you decided that wasn't enough, and so you went for a 100% raise. These demands in a time of runaway inflation, near total chaos in the U.S. at the time.
