@dadsrag I just adjusted my valves last night and i went to .080 and i dont hear a sound other than than the injectors. Maybe the valves are adjusted just a bit loose or even at the recommended .010 they can clatter a bit with lighter viscosity oils
i'd say the valves are adjusted a bit on the loose side... not saying you went over the spec but when i did valves on my ninja 250 i learned that if the feeler gauge (max spec) slides in and out smoothly (but still with some drag) its too loose. i had some clatter, slightly louder than this. So i went back, used the same feeler and tightened then until the feeler gauge slides with difficulty. they were perfect after that.
Is it necessary to put an arch to support the chassis of the car in case of motor 6 Cylinder.........please advice becouse im changed my engin car from 4 cylinder to 6cy
mine ticks too, and the injectors do tend to be noisy, check rocker lobes too , maybe fit roller bearing rockers, if it runs fine, then it,s ok it sounds like mine, and I,m a mechanic.
@DrGrovesvideos You are likely right, but I adjusted them beauties to the absolute best of my ability. I don't think that doing it again with my skills would improve the quality of the job.
sounds normal-ish to me.. mine ticks similarly after adjusting the rockers, was overall louder before but the louder/slower tick remains after adjustment. checked my injectors with the old screwsriver to the ear trick and dont think its injector relates, car runs fine also. my guess is possibly the cam oil sprayer, maybe one rocker isnt getting hit with as much oil as the others?
darren15509, Thanks for your comment. I know that all M20's tick, but mine seems extra loud. Yes, I replaced a Remus with Dynomax. It's much quieter, and better sounding now, without the obnoxious 2000 RPM droning.
Sounds like Pistons

sounds like the injectors

@Dirtnap300 - In person, injectors sound like a sewing machine: "ticka-ticka-ticka-etc." This sounds like: "whacka-whacka-whacka-etc."

camshaft - timing beelt?, bearing shell - crankshaft bearings?

@MrPERCENTYL - I don't think so. Engine runs beautifully other than the noise.

@TheDaikashido - Thanks for the information. The car still runs great and the sound hasn't changed.

@TOMMYSPANNER Are roller bearing rockers even available? A set of VAC billet rockers cost more than my entire car is worth :(

Worn rocker tappets.

that does sound particurarly loud...I'd try to adjust them again and be sure to have the engine cold, use a feeler gauge and set to .25 mm

@elliottbradshaw Nah, this is louder than even the clattery GDI injectors in a new car.

i think its the rocker arm ticking on the cam due to ware on the lobes
VQ35DER 1 year ago
hi there, i run a bmw specialist service center here in the uk and that tick is a common problem on m20 engine with low miles.
you need to have the rocker shafts replaced in the cylinder head, then it will be fine.

hi try to change Valve Guide
if the valve guide is broken, the valve adjustment doesn't work.
plicha100 1 year ago
Sounds just like mine, just bought it.
New camshaft and fuel injection, so it ticks quite alot, but runs w/o problems, so this shouldn't be dangerous.
Although, not cat, just two mufflers, sounds quite alot :P

that ticking is normal for m20`s. there`s no way around it, they all do it, and its fine. and you replaced a remus exhaust with a dynomax? :S
darren15509 2 years ago
it could just be the regular valve noise, but it does seem a little loud.
unless something was done wrong when the valves were adjusted
