Fining a business for hiring too many people. I always thought that the employment tax was the most absurd thing our government has invented. I stand corrected.
When is Peter going to join Ron, Woods, and Napolitano at the Regional Campaign for liberty conferences? Seriously Peter, I know your busy, but what could be more important?
We need people like Peter Schiff in the Senate. Put him in charge of the Senate Finance Committee and maybe he will teach them a few things on the Hill!
While it's true that this mess seemed to start with Republicans, it is clear that both sides switched their party platform to confuse everyone else. Government wants too much control and it's only getting worse under the Obama dictatorship.
If the government is so wise when it comes to running a business, how come things like the United States Postal Service operates at several billions of dollars of loss every year? Is there any government run enterprise that isn't a money sink?
Yet, they feel the need to tell people like Peter how to run his business.
Last week I spent a considerable amount of time trying to call in to Wall Street Unspun. I used the number shown on the website. The line was busy as expected, but I would be disconnected after about 30 seconds. There was no screening (which is strange cause Peter refers to the next caller by name) or any option to stay on the line.
People blame the great depression on the stock market crash of 29. But there was a worse crash in 1920, and the economy recovered quite quickly (the Gov left everything alone). The larger cause of the depression was the Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930, which imposed massive protectionist tariffs. The other nations 'retaliated' with their own tariffs and in short order, half of all businesses that relied on exports, were finished. Protectionism is bad, short term, long term, both bad.
I hope you're the real Dr. Faber! Btw, I like your ZZR if it's really you. I have a Ducati ST4. What is it about businessmen that are interested in economics liking motorcycles as well?(ie. Jim Rogers) Maybe it's an inherent "risk taking" attitude that keeps life interesting! Cheers!
(stop giving Faber a "thumbs down" even if you don't like what he's saying about global debt-everyone deserves a listen and this man is a legend as much as Schiff is-debate is healthy)
peter often sees problems only in the US and just assumes it's better everywhere else.
it might be, but jduging from his often ideological standpoints it doesn't look like he really compares two countries and concludes what's the best place to invest, but just wants to "get out" of the US, because the US isn't a pure austrian capitast country.
Somebody needs to tell Obama to get out of business.
Right now Phillip Morris is playing Congress like a bandit because they're so inept.
Phillip Morris supports legislation against the use of their own product, tobacco. Altria can also allocate tax expense to their many food companies to keep prices affordable.
I love hearing schiff, but sometimes I feel he is just preaching to the choir. I say this b/c I I think he is hear by very, very few people. Sometimes knowing the truth sucks, but I'm glad I do. Spread all schifff vids, and get him into the Senate!
It's hard to swallow but we have to realize a disaster like this took a generation to happen and it could take a generation to fix. You have to start somewhere. Even the tallest tree started out as a tiny seed. Apple started from two guys in a garage who said, "we can do it better."
I've been shrinking my company for years now due to the economic conditions here. The pleasant side effect is I don't get extorted as by gov't as much now that my company is small. I've been fined $500 for having a bottle of water not labeled "water" in my facility..lol..now OSHA never comes around. Also, I'm not paying as much penalty "tax" for employing people. I leverage efficiency in every way to eliminate people on my payroll.I won't grow again until I sell my company and leave the states.
Goldman Sachs was Obama's second largest political contributor. Edward Liddy resigned from the Goldman Sachs Board of Directors on SEPTEMBER 26th, 2008, to become CEO of AIG. This was ONE WEEK before Congress passed the Bailout Bill!!! Niederauer, Zoellick, Paulson, Bolten, Rubin, Thain, Jeffery, Gensler, Kashari, Corzine, Friedman, Patterson, and Dudley all came from Goldman Sachs!!! They run our government!!!
I suspect the government interference in the growth of your firm may be due to more than your problems in interpreting their rules. It's not like they don't know your attitude towards legalized government theft via fiat money among other viewpoints that are generally anti-statist.

no, market prices dictate the direction of the economy not the other way around
and it's pretty ridiculous when you consider who ultimately "controls" those prices
look at oil's rise during mid 08 where barclays and goldman artificially propped up its price to squeeze out pequoias' oil position
and THEN the politicians jump up in their seats trying to put a cap on the gas price and you know what happened after that

therealcaptobvious 2 years ago
Since tobacco markets to the masses, not the classes; affordability is key to maintaining optimal sales.
Their competition, esp Reynolds only sells tobacco and are going to get killed by this tax.
Phillip Morris's competition even discussed their concerns about Altria's size in the market to Congress.
They seem to be pursuing a monopoly.
This is similar how government was used by the auto company to monopolize.
Governments create disaster by meddling in the markets.
