he's being ridiculously melodramatic about it. for someone who has chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromayalgia and is hindered every single day of my life, i find it insensitive. diabetes, or his type, is incredibly manageable, and you can continue to live a pretty normal life - it's merely a bother.

Firstly, you are one absolute IDIOT if you think Type 1 diabetes causes you to 'get fat' ; it's type two which does that. Type 1 is different. I've got Type 1, so does my dad, and sure, it's not great but it hasn't stopped me doing the things I love doing. I was actually crying. My grandma had diabetes and it is always scary. It runs in the family so I am likely to get it too. To know your story touches my heart. I really do not know what I would do without this. It is so inspiring and the fact I'm trying not to cry right now says something as I never cry.

i have diabetes too now. he's inspired me a lot. same symtoms and everything. diabetes is where your pancreas is dying and it doesn't keep blood sugar in check. I'm on insulin shots
@ane3796 actually your pancreas isn't dying... the pancreas does much more than produce insulin... Your immune system is attacking and killing off the insulin-producing beta cells in your pancreas :)
@lejan30 It is when your immune systems attacks the Beta Cell in your Pancreas (Beta Cells make insulin, which allows glucose in your blood to enter cells in your body). If you don't have enough insulin, then the glucose builds up and you get diabetes.

I prick my fingers 4+ times per DAY and take four shots. There are people have have to use a catheter just to use the bathroom. There are people who cant even walk, breathe, speak, or even see on their own. How can you say that you are worse off than cancer patients? The people that fight for ever minute of their lives, many of whom cannot continue and who have no choice but to let their illness overtake them. What about the people who have NO CHANCE of making it to their 11th birthday? i've had type 1 diabetes for 9 years now and i'm only 14. What Nick said has made me realise i'm not the only one out there and i can live with it. for all the haters who think what he said is crap you obviously don't know what it's like to live with a disease like that. i didnt get diagnosed by going to see a doctor, i found out the hard way. this speech has made me rethink this and Nick if you read this, i KNOW what it's like. i understand and i am proud of myself

I happen to be a 33 year old woman living with her grandparents because I had to get out of a verbally and mentally abusive marriage and I have been reintroduced to a wonderful friend that has lifted me up. im diabetic, and i have been since i was about 2 1/2, this has just boosted my cofidence a lot- and made me think about my diabetes, and think that i'm not alone, i wish people would stop slagging all these diabetics of, because it's actually really annoying- diabetes is really hard to manage, and we people who have diabetes don't choose to have it! remember that. i bet if you had the choice, you'd say i don't want to be diabetic

he's being ridiculously melodramatic about it. for someone who has chronic fatigue syndrome and fibromayalgia and is hindered every single day of my life, i find it insensitive. diabetes, or his type, is incredibly manageable, and you can continue to live a pretty normal life - it's merely a bother.

I have diabetes i was diagnosed June 21st 2009, people with diabetes dont get fat. its Type 2 that you are fat. he kinda is an inspiration because he gets on with his life, as a rockstar. battling high and low blood sugars. and it doesn't slow him down. so..yeah.

He is such an inspiration. When I was diagnosed with diabetes, it was no surprise to me. I knew I had it because I had all the same symptoms he had. If it weren't for him, I would've not known. He's my hero.

Firstly, you are one absolute IDIOT if you think Type 1 diabetes causes you to 'get fat' ; it's type two which does that. Type 1 is different. I've got Type 1, so does my dad, and sure, it's not great but it hasn't stopped me doing the things I love doing. I was actually crying. My grandma had diabetes and it is always scary. It runs in the family so I am likely to get it too. To know your story touches my heart. I really do not know what I would do without this. It is so inspiring and the fact I'm trying not to cry right now says something as I never cry.

@lejan30 It is when your immune systems attacks the Beta Cell in your Pancreas (Beta Cells make insulin, which allows glucose in your blood to enter cells in your body). If you don't have enough insulin, then the glucose builds up and you get diabetes.

@peniosasdasd OK,so, you don't have diabetes, have you done reeearch about it? i doubt it. When I was diognosed my blood sugar was dangerously high. And Type 1 diabetes is not like what you think. I prick my fingers 4+ times per DAY and take four shots. If I don't get insulin, 4 weeks and I am DEAD if my blood usgar goes too low BOOM! dead even faster so as you can see I have just as much risk,if not more, of not making it to my 1 t birthday.It'samazing howlittlesomepeopleknowabou diabetes

The people that fight for ever minute of their lives, many of whom cannot continue and who have no choice but to let their illness overtake them. What about the people who have NO CHANCE of making it to their 11th birthday? The kids who feel nothing but pain all day, go through test after test, treatment after treatment, and still die before they learn to ride a bike? Fuck you for thinking you're worse off than them.
