  • Suzzanne I still love you.

  • interesting to me that on Roy's Blue Bayou you sleep all day and the catfish play, but Linda and the Cox Family haven't noticed those playful pisces. still a great version.

  • ......blue bayou must be one fantastic place.....

  • Anything Allison krauss sings is beautiful. God gave her such a wonderful gift of singing!

  • Alison and Suzanne sound alike. It is awesome harmony

  • This gives me chill bumps.

  • Beautiful! :)

  • Their harmony gives me shivers......awesome!

  • Awesome!

  • I love Susan Cox's voice, its so emotionally beautiful

  • I remember the first time I ever heard her sing. I couldn't believe what I heard coming from this girl. Like an angel or something. What great harmony. I've asked this before, but, is she related to the Cox family?

  • Perfection

  • Beautiful song I don't care who you are.

  • An angel with an angelic voice.

  • THE song. so-so rendition. Ya really too bad no info on original dates of recording/ shoot , vid etc.

  • Doesn't hold a candle to Roy's version.

  • god buy me a dobro!

  • Where was this performed?

    That stage looks familiar.

  • beautiful finish

  • it does`nt get any better than this..superb

  • Amazing!

  • This is by far the best rendition of this song EVER...

  • • Great music great musician, GREAT Voices...

  • Best ever performance of this song .. I like Linda Rondstat but her version is really "forced" if you get my meaning

  • nice little song--do yourself a favor and listen to the roy orbison for the best male version and linda ronstadt (live 1976) for the best version male or female

this group couldn't hold a candle to either of those two vocals-nothing against this group bevause no one has ever mayched those renditions

  • well well well... but where is the cute Alyson Krauss.. ???? i dont see her there...

  • Suzanne Cox is tops.

  • what year did this come out does anyone know???

  • RIP Roy. What a great song! This is a awesome performance. Thanks for posting.

  • I've always loved this. I too love the bass line but the whole shoot is just lovely. What is the rhythm to tune anyone?

  • The absolute best version of this song ever!, slightly marred by Alison krauss muscleing in on it, but still excellent! The cox family, & Suzanne in particular, are awesome!!

  • @Tony60514 could you explain how you think Alison Krauss muscles in here?

  • @trakovskyfilm Amen to that!!!

  • Great bass on this....

  • TNN those were the days ^^

    Lovely performance btw

  • Absolutely beautiful. Thanks.

  • Wow, this must be old judging from the hair and that just makes it even more awesome. Allison and the Cox women have not lost one step when it comes to the best voices in folk music.

  • wow, how old is this video?

  • My favorite version of this song.

  • It seems that for a singer or songwriter to have reached the top, their work must be in a collaboration with Ms. Krauss. She makes anybody associated with her sound better.

  • Absolutely Beautiful!

  • @mortimerschultz ALLISON KRAUSS THE ONE AND ONLY....

  • Alison and Suzanne Cox on one stage = Angels

  • This is just an amazing version of an amazing song. The singing during the chorus gives me goosebumps every time! This blows Linda Ronstadt's version straight into the weeds. Would have made Roy proud, too bad he is no longer among us.

  • @hkuijpers1985 You're a moron.

  • Why is that? Cause I like this better than Ronstadt's version? This is as close to Roy as you'll get.

  • @hkuijpers1985 Are you <= 12 years old, you sure act like it.

  • @hkuijpers1985 This is the most ridiculous comment I've read on You Tube! LOL "blows Linda Ronstadt's version to the weeds" LOL This is pretty...that's about it. Ronstadt's version is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded! This is something you could hear in any karaoke bar.

  • isnt that union station playing the music?

  • @ljgsuper Partly. It's Viktor Krauss on bass and Sidney Cox on Dobro.

  • Yep

  • Yeah I think they are... They have recorded faily recently for movies and such.

  • thank you, thank you ,thank you!! :o)

  • Anybody Know I the Cox Family is still doing concerts? I would love to have any new information on them. I just Love Suzzane's Voice And Evelyn's High pitch harmony.

  • this is what its all about, beautiful voices, fantastic band and a cool michigan november evening!

  • This one reminds me of home...the deep of Dixie...

  • Amazing ....... would bring a tear to a glass eye

  • Absolutely beautiful! Two of the prettiest voices in bluegrass. I love it. : )

  • That's Alison's brother Viktor playing bass

  • This is great! I remember seeing the Cox Family in Oklahoma when I was a kid back when Susanah was 9 years old and Sidney was 13.

  • could this get any more pretty.... I don't think so...

  • @kjboyd82 you said it,suzanne cox sounds like an angel

  • Who ever the dobro player is? He is playing Jerry Douglases guitar!!!!!! WOW

  • I'm guessing it's Rob Ickes, since he's way to young to be Sidney Cox...

  • Rob Ickes isn't balding lol + it's a bit to old to be Ickes, I think it's Sidney

  • Ok, it's not Rob Ickes, my bad! But doesn't that guy look too young to be Lynn's father??

  • Yeah but thats the only person I think it could be one thing is for sure, He is playing Jerry Douglas's RQ Jones guitar

  • What a wonderful, sweet voices. The song is jewelry and the Cox and Alison...

    WOW...

  • Alison lost quite a bit of weight between then and now. She's so beautiful. The thin breunette on the right... is she the family member that passed away?

  • No. That's Suzanne Cox and at least a few weeks ago she was alive and well, singing this very song brilliantly at the Grand Ole Opry! ( June 2009)

  • la Dame au chemisier rouge a du sucer son pouce longtemps...je fonds, c'est du tout bon...J'y retourne, tant pispour les ricains,il n'ont qu'à d'apprendre le français...

  • they sang this last saturday at the grand ole opry... it was BEAUTIFUL!!!

  • Come on now. The outfit IS terrible and AK has joked herself about her lack of fashion sense early in her career. Of course it is all about the music but that don't mean we all don't appreciate a well dressed woman OR man!

  • Please bear in mind mahk, that this was probably in the 80's and fashion has evolved since then. However, A. K would sound angelic supposing she wore a coal sack.

  • Suzanne Suzanne my heart stopped

  • Thank goodness they had such wonderful voices, because those outfits are TERRIBLE. The ol' 'alternating red-top-black-top' scheme is the worst. It's good to point this out so other people (budding performers perhaps) won't make the same mistakes. Learn to dress. Big Love AKAUS!

  • Well that sums you up alright!...stunningly beautiful music and all you can see are poor colour combinations...if music biz success is based on fashion you know where to stick it...

True talent will always win through...I havent heard anyone criticise Doc Watson's dress sense?

  • What does any of that actually mean??..over here we still speak english...cry baby??...whats that got to do with anything?...

After I sent the comment I worried that you might have been joking...now I see you were not..

Ever tried anger management.?.you seem to have a problem...

  • Didn't you notice this is an old video? The clothing is from back there in the years...

But they are wonderful, don't you think?

  • Absolutely. They were amazing. Still are. I was just saying that that particular costume trick is terrible, and it hasn't gone away! I've seen it done in recent years.

  • Positively incredible--I"d never heard them sing this. Chills went up my arms.

    mcerin

  • Superbe, toute en finesse Bravo et merci

  • Wow, I'm not a bluegrass fan, but that was sublime.

  • Also, love the way bluegrass uses feminine voices at their purest. As a general rule, you can listen to any bluegrass song, and hear pure, well played and sung music stripped of bull sh*$.

  • Really like Allison Krause. Somehow, the Cox's own lead singer is my favorite on this song. Beautiful and genuine.

  • Linda is one hard act to follow..but they did a really good job here!!! Nice to hear a bluegrass version.

  • I love all these guys voices and musicianship but Suzanne Cox's voice is just out of this world ....

  • Great!

  • hello, just to say great and what talent and great sound, from william.

  • A+ Thank you for the posting!! lb

  • This is the only rendition of this song I have ever considered to be on a par with Linda Ronstadt's and I haven't yet decided for certain but what it may even be a little better.

Thank you so much for posting it and please, don't remove it. :-)

  • A smooth rendition...!!!

  • That is smoother than melted caramel.

  • man this gives my chills..love it..

  • Ron block on guitar

  • Wow...I'm speechless...this must be what heaven sounds like..

  • quality hair : ). looove it

  • I don't know how Allison Krauss found the Cox Family, but the meld so perfectly. Love it!

  • Ok correct me if I am wrong, but if I remember right the Cox Family found Alison when she was a 14 year old champion fiddler. She joined their band as their fiddler. She didn't even sing before that and they encouraged her to start singing. Only to discover the amazing vocal instrument she possesses.

  • Alison Krauss actually discovered The Cox Family I believe.

  • As far as I know she started playing with John Pennell's band Silver rails whom she met at 12, joined a band called Classified Grass some time later with whom she was playing when Rounder signed her at 14. And I do think she was singing round that time already. :)

  • And I think gatorband is right. At least CMT site also states their career got a big boost when Alison Krauss met them in the early 90-ies.

  • Just gorgeous. 'Scuse me...I seem to have something in my eye...

  • can this be my heaven , please?

  • love this song...

  • What a treat to find this!!

  • Singing songs to sooth the heart. Beautiful

  • lovely voices!!

those are my two favorite artists!

  • Very, very pretty, girls! Tnx for posting.

  • awsome, american music at its best

  • its spelled cidney yeah hes giving me bass lessons

  • Whos playing bass?

  • That looks like Alison's brother, Viktor. He's a very accomplished bass player.

  • @joeybb1 a reply 2 years later...lol That is Viktor Kraus (Alison's brother). Played for years with Lyle Lovett (among others).

  • Thats Sidney Cox playing dobro

  • Chills up and down my spine.....all has been said!!!!!!!!!!

  • Whos playing dobro?

  • I've had this song on my computer for a long time. Got it a few years ago from Napster. Great version of a super song. Thanks so much for posting this gem.

  • Beautiful!
