I always wonder why people keep mentioning the skin colour of the characters. I honestly never notice...I mean, I notice, but it never really mattered to me. The story has always been the important thing in my opinion. Colour of skin is just colour of skin, like colour of hair is colour of hair or colour of eyes is colour of eyes. I really hope I'm not the only person left that thinks the story is more important.

This is one of those films were you have to go to the theaters or wait for the dvd. Illegally downloading this film is like a slap in the face to all the hard work people put into this film. This film was so amazing, People shouldn't even consider the option of bootlegging.
My brother was watching this cartoon yesterday on freecartoons-us. He was so impressed so I decided to give it a shut..I found it to be very very funny.. Enough action, comedy and heart wrenching moments what is enough to keep you glued to this cartoon! Fascinating!
@88banjo it's showing, for some odd reason, all the sketeches and pre-animation and pre-colored animation used to actually produce this. What you're seeing is a culmination of literally thousands of hours and thousands of pictures being put together, and flashed on the screen really fast to produce an animated movie

I agree that Disney has brought out some more recent good movies but you must acknowledge that since the classics they have continued on classics such as Pocahontas,Bambi and Fox and the Hound which are all classics and atleast in my opinion they have butchered the movies especially Pocahontas they should've just left it the way it was
People this year when the film opens Winnie the Pooh must go to the cinema to see the movie to get a good result with the public. And Walt Disney Animation Studios can continue to make traditional animation
This movie sucked so bad. lm not racist in any way, but l really feel the whole black disney princess crap was forced on us. And if that werent bad enough- Tiana was just a very, very unlikable character. The way she talks sounds all ghettoish, etc. The character was very arrogant, etc. This was all to bring in black families into the Disney fold. And because of the obvious reason for that- the movie tank. So thank you Walt Disney pictures for taking a wonderful fairy tale and ruining it.
@lovesmovies477 I disagree. I felt she simply talked with a Southern accent, like the rest of the characters. When I first saw the film I enjoyed it but wasn't a huge fan, but it gets better with every viewing for me personally. As for her being unlikable, I thought she was much better than the trailers portrayed her. I fully respected her desire to go for her dreams. To each his own I suppose =)
Is anyone else disappointed that even though Disney FINALLY has a African-American princess, they still couldn't get out of the stereotypical mold? I LOVED the scene where she's singing about what she wants her restaurant to look like, and I saw the art for that outfit before I saw the movie, she had beautiful black hair Then switch to this and she has straight hair. Why? Why did they have to white wash her for them to consider her beautiful?
It's not nit picking, it's true. Disney is geared towards kids and youths. The princesses are created and marketed to be "role models" to be emulated. So if you only depict European features on even the other ethnic princesses and heros what will they think? Tiana didn't look black, she looked like she had a black relative somewhere down the line and all the rest of her family was white. It's a shame because she looked far more beautiful in the concept art anyways.

I have seen her nose compared to the other princesses, and yes it is a tiny, itsy bitsy bit wider, but not by very much. Their faces are almost identical except Tiana has slightly bigger lips.

Like I said, the story may be about true love, but it implies to young girls that they can only truly be beautiful and have their happy ending if they conform to a certain mold. I ADORE THIS MOVIE! This is the only movie that will come in handy when I'm baby sitting. I like every disney princess movie... The classics are great but they were soon to die out. This movie is a little modern in this generations child humor. Honestly people who care if she is black. It's a great cartoon. Next up... Hispanic ;)

People this year when the film opens Winnie the Pooh must go to the cinema to see the movie to get a good result with the public. And Walt Disney Animation Studios can continue to make traditional animation

This movie sucked so bad. lm not racist in any way, but l really feel the whole black disney princess crap was forced on us. And if that werent bad enough- Tiana was just a very, very unlikable character. The way she talks sounds all ghettoish, etc. The character was very arrogant, etc. This was all to bring in black families into the Disney fold. And because of the obvious reason for that- the movie tank. So thank you Walt Disney pictures for taking a wonderful fairy tale and ruining it.

@lovesmovies477 I disagree. I felt she simply talked with a Southern accent, like the rest of the characters. When I first saw the film I enjoyed it but wasn't a huge fan, but it gets better with every viewing for me personally. As for her being unlikable, I thought she was much better than the trailers portrayed her. I fully respected her desire to go for her dreams. To each his own I suppose =)

Is anyone else disappointed that even though Disney FINALLY has a African-American princess, they still couldn't get out of the stereotypical mold? I LOVED the scene where she's singing about what she wants her restaurant to look like, and I saw the art for that outfit before I saw the movie, she had beautiful black hair Then switch to this and she has straight hair. Why? Why did they have to white wash her for them to consider her beautiful?

It's not nit picking, it's true. Disney is geared towards kids and youths. The princesses are created and marketed to be "role models" to be emulated. So if you only depict European features on even the other ethnic princesses and heros what will they think? Tiana didn't look black, she looked like she had a black relative somewhere down the line and all the rest of her family was white. It's a shame because she looked far more beautiful in the concept art anyways.

Are you reading what I'm writing? I said Tiana LOOKS like she has white relatives and a less recent black ancestor. I have seen her nose compared to the other princesses, and yes it is a tiny, itsy bitsy bit wider, but not by very much. She is still very white washed, in fact I've had this conversation before with a friend. Trace Ariel's face, then trace Tiana's face at a 3/4 angle. Their faces are almost identical except Tiana has slightly bigger lips.

Noses that small show up on black women with white ancestor or who know plastic surgeons. Looking at pictures like Beyonce and Rianna don't count as real black women because they've been carved up and their beauty tainted. He hair may be dark but it is not African American hair, sorry. There were no weaves or chemical treatments back then. She has long wavy hair like you see today in the media being depicted as beautiful, not real African American hair. She did in the original drafts, and it was

@AyanaLinval you may be right about her hair but still she's black enough for me my mother had hair like hers. in the 1960's do you think they cared if she had curly hair or no? the would have been just a racsists. why then are we makeing such a fuss about her hair? try focusing on the positives of the movie. Like you said her skin is dark and she aint bleached.

beautiful. I'm not saying that she should look like some racist character, but for it to represent the first black princess with genuine African American beauty. But you are right in one respect, at least her skin is dark, not that bleached out none sense.

Like I said, the story may be about true love, but it implies to young girls that they can only truly be beautiful and have their happy ending if they conform to a certain mold. Disney like the general media has depicted the "black" heroine as white washed. Look at Beyonce, Rianna, and now Tiana, all thin nosed, all paler skin, all straighter haired. What do you think that does to young black girls who have their natural features that are almost never represented as beautiful.

I don't belive the animaters of this film are trying to send subliminal messages to black girls that or any girl for that matter. Even if she did have white relatives way back when (this is not too long after the slave trade.) SOOOO WHAT! I have scottish in my blood does that make me white washed? they made a movie about a dark skined girl at least thats a start.

Key word being PRINCESS. Esmerelda is a Gypsy, Gypsies ARE white people, they are Roman who get very tanned due to being nomadic. White = Caucasian originating from Europe, Rome is in Europe. Gypsies = Roman, Roman = White, Esmerelda = White, Esmerelda =/= Princess. Pocahontas =/= Princess, she was a chieftain's daughter. I ADORE THIS MOVIE! This is the only movie that will come in handy when I'm baby sitting. I like every disney princess movie... The classics are great but they were soon to die out. This movie is a little modern in this generations child humor. Honestly people who care if she is black. It's a great cartoon. Next up... Hispanic ;)
