What people don't realize after watching the series is that Avon WAS tough enough for the streets. However as Avon said, Stringer wasn't tough enough for the streets and wasn't smart enough to be "out there."
Avon was just about to put and end to Marlo when Stringer sold him out to the cops. Avon gave up Stringer to Mouzone because Stringer played Mouzone. Stringer had a debt to pay after tricking Omar to get Mouzone.

right..i know he's from DC..my point wasn't that he had an accent but that the writers and producers had the insight to allow him to speak naturally, most shows would have probably hired a dialect coach for slim and a lot of other characters (snoop, spider, o-dog..and a few others)...but to keep the authencity of the show they allowed them to speak in their natural tongue (even if it was hard to understand certain words)..rather than try to appeal to the masses and make every word understandable

The inner city is fucked and yes fayette has its darkness but when you say baltimore you pin pointing a cloud on it and the county well the sides that aren't getting turnt out is still a beautiful place that has my beautiful women so say the inner city or a direct area ..I hate that my hometown is falling to shit ... theres still alot of good there ..

@ndc18 I know right! Not like "The Shield" where it's all Hollywood bullshit, "The Wire" shows the nitty gritty side of B More city!!!! I went to BBH (Baltimore Behavioral Health - rehab) and it's right off of Pratt street by the Raven's stadium. Most of these scenes' is right there and maaan it's crazy how well this show portray's the drug scene here!? I'm glad someone knows what I mean!

Avon had no enforcers. Marlo did. end of story. Chris & Snoop come off very cold but I think they are more humane than Avons enforcers who used to do drugs and torture. Marlo was just cold.

@BigPostal yEAH String was right but String wasn't playing by the rules. he went to Clay of all people. he went to the wrong people so his ideas were on target but his execution of the ideas and putting them in action was OMG STUPID. avon SHOULD HAVE CUT ALL TIES with stringer because as you can see, STRINGER BELL and avon's DINOSAUR MENTALLY ON THE drug game brought the BARKSDALES to non-existence.

right..i know he's from DC..my point wasn't that he had an accent but that the writers and producers had the insight to allow him to speak naturally, most shows would have probably hired a dialect coach for slim and a lot of other characters (snoop, spider, o-dog..and a few others)...but to keep the authencity of the show they allowed them to speak in their natural tongue (even if it was hard to understand certain words)..rather than try to appeal to the masses and make every word understandable

Just thumbed you up ineffect, don't know why people thumbing down we all love the wire here. We're like a close knit community here on these youtube vids. I'm telling you, if Stringer didn't fuck up and rat Avon, Avon would have picked that phone up and Slim Charles would have busted lead in marlo and chris's domes.
