@fronkenpoop i agree people are all like "oh woo hoo DSTAR, DSTAR woo hoo hoo" ther is only one dstar repeater in my area that i know of and i have no uinterest in it.
Enjoy your videos,Randy! I should try and make next year's Dayton Hamfest. I am looking forward,by the way,to getting my Yaesu FT-950 up and going very soon after I move to my new QTH next month. I'm a Yaesu man all the way!
great video, i am definatly into radio and love to see whats new. being a truck driver too, i have to reliy on others videos to see whats going on. 73
Thanks Randy, nice videos. My mind is made up however since we just received our new Flex 1500 and already use a Flex 5000A. All other radios are antiques to me now. 73's AL K3ROJ
Looks like Dayton was a lot of fun.Would like to attend someday. I like that new Kenwood TS590, I have a TS570D, just love it,I use a Kenwood TM261A in the mobile for 2m,never part with it.Thanks Randy, good to see you posting again.73Don,VO1XH
I really appreciate the video because we don't see big hamventions in our area and iIt's good to see what's new and available. Taking the general exam this Saturday.
@melbourneradio Grant, for this video I used a Sanyo Xaxti HD 720P VPC-TH1 camera. I shot in HD, but my Sony Vegas editing computer does not have enough steam for HD rendering. I was able to edit, but rendering was going to take over 24 hours. So, I gave up and rendered this into a non-HD video. Camera isn't too bad for about $150! Slow to auto focus, very small, real glass zoom, no ext mic, but I was impressed how well the mic worked at Dayton. Might be time for a new editing computer. Randy
I like this video, and dream of attending Dayton someday. From this video, I get the impression that hamming is about buying the newest appliances and hooking them to each other. I know better from your other videos that you do homebrew a fair amount. I just know, though, that there's more grassroots hamming that goes on at Dayton. If I go, I promise give that equal reportage.
@kc7fys Dayton is a lot more than just hanging out in the commercial radio booths. Lots of good forums, many for beginners, flea market that takes hours or a day to roam. Lots of special interest groups, QRP, AMSAT, Contesting, DX, Man packs all have meet up at the Hamvention or hotels. Lots going on.
@K7AGE I know, I know. I always have the utmost respect for your output, OM. I was just tweeting out about homebrew. I have a lot to learn, and hope to make it to Dayton so I can cover that aspect myself.
Thanks for the tour. I appreciate the questions for newbies. Hope to get my General ticket at the end of this month so a new radio will soon follow. Great info, thanks again.
hey randy really enjoyed the video since i wasnt able to go this year. i really think the echolink on the iphone is cool. i wounder if they make an app for android?? i am going to go find out and if not somebody should create one..................
Randy - Excellent video and obviously way to much fun there for you guys! Thanks for taking us along . . . much cheaper and easier on the wallet to tag along with your video!
I loved radio. It's a shame it's been trivialised by digital medium.
