Rosario was my first Mimi and for that I will always love her. But the casting directors called Daphne "the real deal" when they first saw her and they were right. Her voice was totally true to the character. Mimi is a crazy junkie dancer and she should sound like she has been through some rough shit. Her voice SHOULD sound gravelly, but also strong and sensual and vulnerable. And for that Daphne pwns Rosie :-)

She wants him to help her through life, and be there for her, and have someone to love her. He and Her get into many fights, and she is singing that she doesn't want to die without him.

The lyrics talk about the rest of the world carrying on in normalcy "without you." That could apply to Roger or her drugs. "But I die without you." That could apply to her longing for Roger or her physical and mental dependence on her drugs. To say that this is simply a love song is a severe underestimation of a piece from a musical that won the Pulitzer Prize.
