Yes to the slower part, but the point of the exercise was not to think I could catch a sharp arrow by catching a dull one. The tips are all weighted the same as sharp tips. Thats how all arrows work, each bow takes a specific weight of arrows, so all one has to do is buy the same weight for each style of arrow head one wants and they remain the same arrows essencially. They do, of course, vary in aerodynamics. The accuracy depends on the Archer, and that was an issue here for sure.

you need to start with LARP bows then move to a childs practice bow (when i was young i accidentally shot my friend in the lip from 5feet away with a bulletlike arrow and it only busted his lip: note i was only 5-6)

This video was my very first attempt at catching an arrow, I didn't do any practice before hand. It was just a wild idea I had and I proceeded to follow through with it. It was a good time, and I plan on doing more with it, as soon as life gets back to where I want it to be.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "can't achieve this do to insuperior construction" If you are talking about the ability of a traditional bow to have a 75+ poundage, the english long bow of the middle-ages had a 90lb draw on it. An Expert Archer is just as accurate with a tradtional bow as a compound can be. Traditional bows can also shoot more arrows down range at a faster rate of fire. i'm saying that due to the simple construction of the longbow and the recurve they can't easily make strong shots, a compound bow is made to do better shots at lower pull weights, so say...a 50pound compound bow and a 50pound recurve and a 50pound longbow
the longbow would have to be eminsely pulled and would rattle your hand when let off, the recurve would be easier and would kind of shake your hand, the compound wouldn't shake your hand, you would have iron sights, a weight balancer, etc
please define "strong shot" The bow itself doesn't rattle when shot, it is the person that shakes when pulling the bow. I have a 65lb recurve, and I have no issues with holding steady. I think i could do a 75lb bow with out much difficulty. The only thing a compound does is make the holding of the bow, for a longer time easier, which does make aiming easier for sure. A well made longbow feels like silk when shot, as long as you are strong enough to pull it.
well ones that could catch an arrow started with a gift i doubt you have... then they trained over time to achieve such a feat... they didnt dress up in awkward armor and start shooting arrows at each other one day 3o pounds overweight.. get real... you wanna have fun thats cool, but dont pretend its training or something
I was trying to catch them at first, but by the 3rd arrow, I knew they were too fast at 15 yards for me to catch with the poor accuracy of my buddy. They were just too unpredictable so I just tried to make sure not to get hit.
Only a fool would trust my buddy to shoot well enough to ensure no facial shot would occur, and I am not a fool. A shot to the face with that tip would tear a person up pretty badly. Safety first!
They are Demi-Gauntlets, made of 18g Stainless, they were intended to be ouchless finger gauntlets, but they never got finished. I have all of the pieces, but lack the skill to make them myself. Thanks for the comment. :)

Nice to see others trying this out lol - its really... really.. i would say almost impossible unless you can take the hits haha and figure out your own best technique... best is to have your hand/wrist somewhere in front of your neck with the side of your hand with your thumb closest to you then just swipe your arm/hand down and snatch it or deflect it hah... most the time it will be deflected because sometimes its just to damned fast lol.
We didn't have our horse bows yet, but I plan on trying one for the next attempt, though the type of bow doesn't make much difference in how much it hurts....at least not from my point of view. :D They all hurt about the same, pound for pound. It depends on which part. I made all of the leather and helped make all of the metal parts. The Padded Vest I got from CAS Iberia and the Fencing Mask I got from what is now called "The Zen Warrior", previously known as "Triplette Arms". Most of my new Metal Armor will most likely be from Valentine Armories, and I will continue to make my own leather goods.
No, this is what I am into. In the house we are at, we have over 140 weapons of different types, all bladed or blunted. The armor I am wearing is what I use all the time.
God no!! It was plenty painful, even with the heavy padding I was bruised for weeks. They were very pretty. I don't recommend getting hit with a blunt arrow to anyone...well...maybe a few...but that is another story.
well, I guess I do, we have an old 14g breast plate we did some cut testing on to see what weapons were most effective against it. The results were very suprising.
out of all of the weapons used, (hewing spear, dbl bladed axe, gothic mace and battleaxe,and various swords) the viking sword from CAS did the most dmg. The spear did put a very small hole in it, but he viking sword crushed it the most and would have cause more havok with the wearer than any other weapon we tried.
We were very surprised as well. There are other weapons that we don't have, that may have great effect, but, I have only recently gotten a few more to try out, and now I have no spar armor to test on. so....someday we will test again.
LOL yeah andI can catch bullets. Theres no point in trying to catch arrows in combat. If someone aims at you even if u do catch it it would hit you because of the speed. It is possible to do anything I just don't like it when guys try to prove the bow is not a lethal weapon.

Not so much the poundage, but the speed.
In my reenactment group, we do this for shows.
We start training with longbows, with a higher bracehight (made especially for this).
The arrow moves a lot slower, and is therefore easier to catch.
After some training, we move up to faster bows.
