@DevSodDribble Ehm... nice logical fallacy. Did you get Hicks's point? Hicks said: "Drugs have done some good things for us". Not "Every great musician was a junkie".
Frank is my favorite composer, however, at times I think he was too much of a cynic and whiner. For someone of his incredible genius and talent, he really liked to put people down, it's the only trait he had that bugs me, but hey, he's the famous one and I'm here typing in my little pink opinion. I just have always wanted to say that, so now I 've got it off my chest. I still love the guy and his music.
Frank most of the time you are right and i know you can't here me but the really great minds of classical music that we respect today weren't popular at all in their life time because they didn't obey this "formula" you are talking about. There is a lot of boring formula classical music but they real composers like Bach wrote some of the most beautiful stuff ever and Bach just happen to made most of the harmony that we know today
I only discovered Frank Zappa recently. I'm 26 and I wish I would've discovered him when I was a kid, because all my heroes then were rockstars who fucked themselves up and were dead. That's the way i nearly ended up!
zappa said what they didn't want to hear. is he not the closest thing to a prophet???
if he had lived many years ago, they would have crucified him, or burned him at the stake... they killed galileo for saying that the world was round... zappa got lucky... all he had to do was speak with the US senate... and hahahaha... he beat those bastards... sad that he died, but he will always be immortal to those who remember... RIP ZAPPA... C U N Hell...
It's true nothing is black and white.I'm not telling anybody what to do with their lives,It's up to them,It's their choice not mine.I do have one question, what do you consider "moderation"?
Old post I know, but just a little point: I am not going to tell people how to live or what they choose to consume, however they need to recognise that every line of coke is bought off the backs of poor people in eg Colombia, where i lived last year, where military groups murder indigeonous people, force children to be soldiers, and ruin rural communites in order to grow this plant to sell to US/Europe. If you buy the drug then you help the thugs.
it's a cultural thing... why does america not have that same problem? i wish that we could grow the coca plant here... or salvia divinorum... your problem is that you give the drug dealers too much power... gather together... organize... eliminate the bad people... keep the good people... you are still farmers... drugs are still cool... but don't let violent people monopolize your nation's resources...
"The refreshing approachs are showmanship...." Frank was SO far ahead of his time in this regard. Look at today's 'classical' musicians: Nigel Kennedy and Vanessa Mae.
you got it frank.Istopped cocaine and other stuff over fourteen years ago.All coke, heroin etc.. does is robs you of everything you had before, you're bank account, wife, life, and you just look the other way.Now i've got things under control,I'm playing guitar again with 3 guys from rehab. But i still love beer yar!!
that's right, but apparently that's the way things get done in the american society, so he's not talking about himself but rather about a system at large.
@STRATCAT101 Alcohol is no different, it probably just didn't affect you as bad. It still kills more people than crack, cocaine, and heroin combined and is responsible for virtually every broken family.
@STRATCAT101 Yo! Frank as consistently said he has never used drugs.. Let's get that straight. That said there were more than a few musicians he did work with who did have drug issues. Frank did not.
@dontillman Who said Frank had drug issues? Not me,but he loved his beer and cigarettes.and what are they?I loved Frank's music, still do.Frank was the greatest guitarist /lyricist on the planet,he didn't need drugs he had an amazing gift which was his imagination to write gems like Dyna-mo hum.Frank wrote an anti drug anthem "Cocaine decisions" .Lets get that straight!
Bill Hicks was wrong. Brilliant musicians are brilliant despite their drug use, not because of it. Zappa never needed any of that shit.

Well that's an extremist view. Nothing is black and white. Just because you couldn't enjoy those drugs in moderation doesn't mean that no one can.
horrorshowmalchick 2 years ago
Just because what seems to be moderation while you're on drugs doesn't end your life, doesn't mean that doing drugs is wise.
