@mi3helle707 Thanks. I just don't want them to resort to relaxers or to think that there is something inherently "wrong" with their God Given Curls! Be Blessed, and Thanks for your support!
@TheNaprika I remember being in tears as well. I was determined that my own daughters would not run from "grooming" rituals. I rather they understand that it takes time to look neat and groomed and that the time taken is WELL WORTH IT! Be Blessed!
Thank you for this...I have been looking on youtube and hair forums for little girls that have my daughter's texture so I can get some advice and maybe products that work on hers!! They are soo similar I just subscribed. And their hair is beautiful ;)
Hi Zaharam2! i have been a fan of your videos since 6 months ago. (i can't believe i forgot to subscribe.. :( ) anyway, i just wanted to say that you have inspired me to go back natural! i'm 13 (turning 14 next month) and i've always wanted to grow my hair back. my last perm was in march. and my hair was at shoulder length. now since me and mother use natural products and avoid heat and chemicals my hair has grown to almost mid-back length, thank you!! ♥
@Suikawaii12 Oh, thank you so much for the encouragement! And thank you for subscribing ;-D I'm so proud of you for making this decision at such a tender age. I wish that I could turn back time so that I could have been "natural" since I was in my early teens. I applaud your mother for supporting you! Wow! Mid-back ALREADY! Fantastic! BE BLESSED, Little one!
Okay, I have hair like your big girl's hair. I just did two strand twists over the weekend and it came out really cute.. except my ends. My ends are just fuzzy. I don't know what to do to fix that. Any ideas? I was moisturizing with shea butter.
@evilkittie2103 OLA! You have to do the opposite of what the 4a's do. Twist the hair, but at about 2/3rd to the end split it, apply a little extra moisturizer/gel and start plaiting it to the end. Your hair will be fierce! Shea Butter is great, but we won't get great hold. I hope that this helps. Be Blessed!
YOU ARE SUCH A GREAT MOM!!! I Wish you were my mom when I was five. All I remember is my Grandmother and Aunts chasinng me down trying to wash and plait my hair up (LOL). I hated hair wash day. I would start bawling way before they even touch my hair! You are so patient with your girls and you are teaching them to love their hair most of all. I never had that.growing up. Its a wonder we black women are not all in therapy, ya know. Warmest regards to you and your family.
@acmdu89 Oh, Thank you so much! I used to run too! I hated relaxers! I had huge volume like my younger daughter. So they started with the hot comb but eventually ended up relaxing my hair. I just don't want my babies to go through the same, I don't want them with a complex or needing therapy (LOL @ your therapy comment)! Be Blessed! I love your hair, btw!
@lorimneal Let me start off with the disclaimer that I am NOT a hair expert. From what I understand, the 4b hair texture has a tiny coil and the 4c texture has a z-shape. It doesn't "Coil" for lack of a better word. Big girl has extremely tiny coils. But they are coils, none-the-less. So technically, she is a type 4b. At least that is how I understand it. She can't do wash-n-goes though. It is sad because she really loves that look. Be Blessed!
@DolceVita I love the "fuzzy" look that her's gets when it is in 2strand twists. It is almost like locs. As soon as a gel or oil hits mine, it is all glossy. Ugh! Why is it that we are never happy with what God gave to us. Oh, well. At least I get to style her hair. Be Blessed!
@cjizzleismynizzle Water, Vita-pro Leave-in Conditioner, I have been making a sealant for her with Mango Butter, Refined Shea Butter, Coconut Butter, Raw Shea Butter and Grapeseed Oil. I used to use Olive Oil in the mixture but not lately.
@Zaharam2 I have the exact same hair type as your oldest daughter, and my hair is fragile, stringy, and tangles/knots quite a bit. My mother started relaxing my hair when I was 5, then when I was 17 I did a big chop. I remember when I was your daughters age, how painful it was to get my hair braided. I feel if my mom saw this video then she would have never relaxed my hair. therefore I must say thank you s much for posting these wonderful tutorials for everyone to see. : ) Peach and love
@nataliaaniekwu Thank you for your comment. Recently, my husband and I have been trying to decide whether or not to pull the children's videos off of youtube. Comments like these encourage me to keep making movies that portray our hair in a positive, beautiful and manageable light. You are most welcome, but it is I who must thank YOU. As always, Be Blessed!
@Zaharam2 I do have a big question, when you wash your daughters' hair and yours, do you not get some white residue from the product build up? and if you do how do you get it all off without scrubbing the scalp? I know that using your nails or scrubbing the scalp is abrasive, but I'm not to rough...I think. I also feel like if I don't get the residue off it will clog hair follicles and cause other types of damage to my hair. I do use rinses and clay masks, Idk if I am just being obsessive?
@nataliaaniekwu I just try to massage the soap and lather onto the scalp like, most people suggest. A few times when I went to the salon, thats pretty much how they washed my hair as well. Sometimes I feel like they, barely washed it. I will wash my hair like that if that is the correct way. The buildup thing is my biggest concern, if anyone has a few words of advice. I would love to hear it all. I just dont want to overdue it and cause damage to my scalp, follicles or hair. Peace and Love :)
@nataliaaniekwu I've never used clay or rinses, but keeping my Big Girl's hair moisturized is like having another full time job. For protective styles at times I seal in moisture w/ a product containing petrol/mineral oil. When it is time to wash I use a clarifying shampoo & the residue is washed away easily. I like swimmer's shampoos & liquid castile soaps for the best clean. I massage the scalp, I never scratch. I don't know the "correct" way to do it. I agree, removing scalp product is key!
@bawaits Oh! Thank you so much! Would you believe that we are starting this same process right now? She is taking a break to stretch her legs. You put a smile on her face when I read her your comment! Be Blessed!
The only thing I find gives me good curl definition is smoothing Eco Styler gel through sections of DRY hair. My hair is mostly 4As and Bs with 3Cs mixed in but the shrink is unbelievable. Wet styles like washand goes don't work and because of my mixed textures getting uniformity and hold on twist outs don't work either. Eco styler gives me uniformity and definition. I just spray it with moisturizer to get rid og the crunch and it works for me.
@TRUTHTEACHER2007 I love your videos! I have actually recommended that some of my subbies watch them. Ur hair is like my Baby Girl's. Big Girl is 4b throughout. I've never seen anything like it. There is NO variation in her curl pattern at all. I have tried every gel/defining cream on the local market in her wet & dry hair. Her hair just ends up white and looking fly away. My next move is to try the Curls line. I want to figure this out 4 her b4 she grows up.
@Zaharam2 Wow I'm surprised. Maybe its the way you apply it? I just take small sections like I'm doing small 2 strand twists, then I just smooth the hair down. I learned it from Indiogoghild1963 so I'll see if I can find the video and pass it on. Actually, I wish I had your daughter's hair, she's got a nice curl and uniformity, mine is just like all the republics after the fall of the Soviet Union, THEY WANNA ALL DO THEY OWN THING! LOL. If it doesn't work shes still got beautiful thick hair.
@TRUTHTEACHER2007 BTW, a quick puff from an old twist out on the baby girl (See her hair on my 38th B-day review video) can be achieved misting with H2O +Organix Coconut Milk Weightless Mousse+ Shea/Mango Butter. I think that the two of you have VERY similar hair. So this will probably work for you as well. The Stay Soft Fro products that you use have a LOT of Glycerin in them. Too much glycerin can prevent styling hold. Maybe that is why your twist outs don't hold. Just a thought. Be Blessed!
@Zaharam2 I'll check that out. The thought did occur to me though. Its just that my hair is so thirsty and dry if I don't load it with moisturizer. Maybe I'll use oils and Shea butter next time I do twists. I have some sections that I don't know how to type, when I twist them they just look like strange puffs. Maybe if I do it on damp hair and sit under a dryer?
@TRUTHTEACHER2007 Maybe. The only time that I use heat is when I have white product residue and I have to go somewhere. I will quickly diffuse a little or sit under a hooded dryer for about 20 minutes. To combat dryness I RELY on good moisturizing leave-ins. Our house favs are Generics Paul Mitchell THE CONDITIONER and Giovanni's Direct Leave-in. Then I will wet twist w/ either ElastaQP Mango butter or a Mango/Shea Butter mix & put a glosser on top to further seal in the moisture. Be Blessed!
@ibitoyebimpe I have a video called Favorite products for 4b/4c hair. It features the products that I usually use for the Big Girl's hair. Check it out and then send me a message if you still have questions. Be Blessed!
Lovely video, I have similar hair to your daughters, but mine's slightly more defined, armpit length and a whole lot thinner/finer.
I had to watch because of the EO products (which I love- I'm allergic to everything) but watch out using too much of the lavender one or anything with lavender or tea tree oil on young girls since they MAY mimic estrogen.
BUT KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK! Your daughters look like they actually enjoy getting their hair done.
@kayatosa33 Thanks for the tip about the Lavender. I try to switch up using the Citrus and Lavender intermittently. I hope that twice a month use won't affect her adversely. I avoid Tea tree products like the PLAGUE! I don't enjoy the odor and I don't need a tingle to tell me that my hair/scalp is clean. Thank you for the kind words. They both enjoy the process but they don't like how much time it takes In the video they were watching Sesame Street videos on youtube to try to keep still. Ha!
My hair is EXACTLY like your daughters hair. I have really loose curls in the back but I'm having trouble with doing my hair. I just want to hide it until it grows because I don't have the confidence to rock my 4b/4c hair out in public. I think if it was as long as your daughters I would feel better but I'm in that short but not twa but not shoulder length phase.
@EkchoWil I just watched your Haul video. You are so cute! You could rock ANY style! Look, you won't enjoy the journey unless you are comfortable. Hide your hair until you are ready. Some people wear wigs and things and go only to the grocery store or out of town when testing the "freedom" of their natural hair. Her hair has NOT always been long, honey. I just loved on it until it responded! If you guys have the same hair type DON'T forget to FREQUENTLY moisturized. Your hair will thank you.
@jazdj04 thank you. I'm going to try and rock it really soon. My job is also an issue they have tv image issues. I look nothing like the tv but it's like they want black woman to have straight hair.
@takeitorleaveit304 I know! Even my husband is always calling her by my name and vice versa. She is my little mini-me. I just pray that she will reflect all of the good in me and reject those things in my character that I detest. Be Blessed!
@kitti2dbone It is so funny, most people have loved the little one's videos (I think it is b/c her hair is so long.) But I have gotten more personal messages and "Oooh! That's MY hair" about my eldest dtrs hair. Maybe she has a more common texture? Those 2 R so cute! Girl, the EO smells divine. That one is the lavender scent. They also have yummy smelling ones like Citrus and Vanilla Orange Cream.
i have the same hair type as your daughters. how can i enhance my coils after washing out a deep conditioning treatment without it looking matted to my head
@temickab I keep trying to respond to you, but for some reason it isn't posting. It is impossible to enhance her curls without a second, detangling conditioner (like Giovanni's 50/50 or the ORS Olive Oil Deep Penatrating Conditioner. But the coils shrink up as soon as her hair starts to dry - hence the four fat plaits post co-washing. Otherwise, her hair draws up to her head.
@temickab So a great way to get a defined look is double strand twist-out. If you want a "fuller" look, make them small. Gel DOES NOT work in this type of hair for curl definition. I don't know why, but I have decided to cut my losses. Also, I am looking for ANYTHING that will help stop her hair from shrinking up with the slightest hint of moisture in the air. I think that I have purchased all of the anti-humidity products available on the shelf, to no avail!! Have you found anything?
@Zaharam2 that i usualy do to have maximum stretch is i corn row my hair like7 to 10 cornrows going down.... this is after i wash my hair and while it is wet. then i sleep overnight and take them out and use a wide tooth comb....... starting from tip to root. it stretches all the way out
@Zaharam2 while corn rowing, i spray taliah waajid protective mist bodifier on ear hair im about to corn row. When i wake upo the next day... my hair is SUPER SUPER soft and stretched out. But i use alot of her product in my hair to keep it soft.... let me know your outcome
@Zaharam2 oh yeah i have micro two strand twist in my hair now,.... the only problem is that it shrunk all the way to my head.. lol so i think i will blow dry the next time. I have t keep these twist in for a few months for protective style... ill wash my hair once a week though
@temickab Did you know that you can stretch you hair when it's in micro twist? Try the banding method. 4 summer mths when she swims 4 days a wk. After washing her hair on the 4th day & deep conditioning I slather it with oil. I pull it all back into 1 pony tail and let it air dry. The next night I band it all over, then it is nice and stretched for the weekend. Although it gets fuzzy it stays supercute. People always think that she has dreads until they get close and see that she has twists.
@Zaharam2 oh yeah and alot of people think i have dreads also.. even when they look closer they still cant tell... yeah i have done the twist out before with the micro mini twists and it only usually last a day...
@Zaharam2 OH!!! lol im such a retard... well i will defintaly try that after i wash them... but i tend to redo them everyweek... let me know if you get that taliah waajid protective mist boifier spray
@temickab Tee! Hee! You are doing fine! My God. How do you find the time to do them every week?!? I pretend to be frustrated that my twist outs and coil outs all look like my wash-n-go. But the truth is that it is a relief. Either I am old or have the beginnings of arthritis b/c I just can't do those time consuming styles all of the time. I am a w-n-g girl! I'll look for that spray and let you know. Be Blessed!
My goodness! Does she sleep with a satin cap on? That will help stop the breakage if the way she sleeps is the cause. We tried satin pillows but they made the kids sweat. The caps work fine though.
Thanks! You know what? This knowledge all came through trial and error. I was determined that I would NOT put my girls through the hell of a burning scalp with guaranteed scabs to follow. My Big Girl's hair texture and tendencies is NOTHING like mine. I had days of guilt and tears - many where I felt like giving up and putting a texturizer in her hair. But once I figured out that her hair Loves Moisture and HATES Tension & Combs we have had a wonderful natural hair journey together. Be Blessed!
Thank you! Make sure that you don't get excited about how much hair you lose! It is just the shed hair retained by your locs! You are quite welcome. I have been considering locking my hair, lately. I'm still not sure where this natural hair journey will take me. Good luck and be blessed!
You've quelled my worries. I took a sneak peak and took a patch out and freaked a bit at the loose strands that were no longer attached to my scalp! The best thing about the journey is the fun of the unknown. You're hair looks beautiful and you care for it well. I'm sure you'll find a style that you can live with. Just be patient. .D
Ha! Ha! Haaa! I knew it! My friends that have loosened their locs have all had a moment of OMG! I'm going to be bald! Only to be pleasantly surprised once all of their hair is loosened. Carefully, loosened - that is! Thanks for the encouragement! I really am a lover of short hair. People gaff at me when I pout about how fast my hair grows and how thick it is. Why is it that we always want the opposite of what the Good Lord blessed us with? I'm sure that I'll figure it out eventually. Be Blessed!
Thanks! It just takes the right products. Sometimes I use the ORS Deep Penetrating Conditioner on her, but lately I have tried to focus more on moisture with her hair, and it is working beautifully.
I felt like the camera didn't really pick up on the texture well. Her hair is so coily and luscious when wet. But as soon as it dries it draws up to her head like a snail in a shell. I wish that I could find a product that would work for her in a wash-n-go!
You know, it is funny that when her hair is in puffs, people always think that it is short, and comment on Baby Girl's hair. Baby Girl is always sure to tell the commentor that "Big Girl's hair is long too." It is just a different texture and wave pattern than mine or the Baby's. I'm glad that I can do WNG's but I envy her hair. I love the way it waves up (when pulled back) with just oil and water! And her twist outs are enviable! My hair doesn't hold styles the way her's does!
I used the EO Lavender and Aloe. It smells divine! It feels a bit thin because most of the content is essential oils. My Big Girl's hair drinks moisture like a fish in water! I got that huge bottle of EO conditioner for about $8 at Marshal's
beautiful gorg, amazing nice hair, ur kids r lucky dey have a mum like u who cares bout their hair, :).

Your daughters look like they actually enjoy getting their hair done.
kayatosa33 1 year ago

EkchoWil 1 year ago
@EkchoWil I just watched your Haul video. You are so cute! You could rock ANY style! Look, you won't enjoy the journey unless you are comfortable. Hide your hair until you are ready. Some people wear wigs and things and go only to the grocery store or out of town when testing the "freedom" of their natural hair. Her hair has NOT always been long, honey. I just loved on it until it responded! If you guys have the same hair type DON'T forget to FREQUENTLY moisturized. Your hair will thank you.
Zaharam2 1 year ago
@Zaharam2 thank you, I'm learning that my hair does love moisture.

@jazdj04 thank you. I'm going to try and rock it really soon. My job is also an issue they have tv image issues. I look nothing like the tv but it's like they want black woman to have straight hair.

They also have yummy smelling ones like Citrus and Vanilla Orange Cream.

i have the same hair type as your daughters. how can i enhance my coils after washing out a deep conditioning treatment without it looking matted to my head
temickab 2 years ago
@temickab I keep trying to respond to you, but for some reason it isn't posting. It is impossible to enhance her curls without a second, detangling conditioner (like Giovanni's 50/50 or the ORS Olive Oil Deep Penatrating Conditioner. But the coils shrink up as soon as her hair starts to dry - hence the four fat plaits post co-washing. Otherwise, her hair draws up to her head.
Zaharam2 1 year ago
@Zaharam2 yeah i just cant enhance my curls... its impossible
temickab 1 year ago
@temickab So a great way to get a defined look is double strand twist-out. If you want a "fuller" look, make them small. Gel DOES NOT work in this type of hair for curl definition. I don't know why, but I have decided to cut my losses. Also, I am looking for ANYTHING that will help stop her hair from shrinking up with the slightest hint of moisture in the air. I think that I have purchased all of the anti-humidity products available on the shelf, to no avail!! Have you found anything?
Zaharam2 1 year ago
@Zaharam2 that i usualy do to have maximum stretch is i corn row my hair like7 to 10 cornrows going down.... this is after i wash my hair and while it is wet. then i sleep overnight and take them out and use a wide tooth comb....... starting from tip to root. it stretches all the way out
temickab 1 year ago
@Zaharam2 while corn rowing, i spray taliah waajid protective mist bodifier on ear hair im about to corn row. When i wake upo the next day... my hair is SUPER SUPER soft and stretched out. But i use alot of her product in my hair to keep it soft.... let me know your outcome
temickab 1 year ago
@temickab Sometimes I use this stretching method as well - Minus the product. Is the Taliah Waajid PMB something that I would have to order?
Zaharam2 1 year ago
@Zaharam2 yeah you can order it... but i get my out the local beauty supply store.. she uses african herbs and natural things in all her products..
temickab 1 year ago
@Zaharam2 oh yeah i have micro two strand twist in my hair now,.... the only problem is that it shrunk all the way to my head.. lol so i think i will blow dry the next time. I have t keep these twist in for a few months for protective style... ill wash my hair once a week though
temickab 1 year ago
@temickab Did you know that you can stretch you hair when it's in micro twist? Try the banding method. 4 summer mths when she swims 4 days a wk. After washing her hair on the 4th day & deep conditioning I slather it with oil. I pull it all back into 1 pony tail and let it air dry. The next night I band it all over, then it is nice and stretched for the weekend. Although it gets fuzzy it stays supercute. People always think that she has dreads until they get close and see that she has twists.
Zaharam2 1 year ago
@Zaharam2 oh yeah and alot of people think i have dreads also.. even when they look closer they still cant tell... yeah i have done the twist out before with the micro mini twists and it only usually last a day...
temickab 1 year ago
@temickab I don't mean a twist out. I mean you can stretch the micro twist without undoing them.
Zaharam2 1 year ago
@Zaharam2 OH!!! lol im such a retard... well i will defintaly try that after i wash them... but i tend to redo them everyweek... let me know if you get that taliah waajid protective mist boifier spray
temickab 1 year ago
@temickab Tee! Hee! You are doing fine! My God. How do you find the time to do them every week?!? I pretend to be frustrated that my twist outs and coil outs all look like my wash-n-go. But the truth is that it is a relief. Either I am old or have the beginnings of arthritis b/c I just can't do those time consuming styles all of the time. I am a w-n-g girl! I'll look for that spray and let you know. Be Blessed!

my daughter hair is like that too i need and its starting to com out in the back of her head like where she sleeps i guess
stona101 2 years ago
@stona101
My goodness! Does she sleep with a satin cap on? That will help stop the breakage if the way she sleeps is the cause. We tried satin pillows but they made the kids sweat. The caps work fine though.

like the music...if only every mother had knowledge about hair like you do....
queenofspades84 2 years ago 10
Be Blessed!

Your girls are precious! This video has made me so excited about taking down my genie locs and detangling! Thank you!
charwash 2 years ago
Thank you! Make sure that you don't get excited about how much hair you lose! It is just the shed hair retained by your locs! You are quite welcome. I have been considering locking my hair, lately. I'm still not sure where this natural hair journey will take me. Good luck and be blessed!
Zaharam2 2 years ago
You've quelled my worries. I took a sneak peak and took a patch out and freaked a bit at the loose strands that were no longer attached to my scalp! The best thing about the journey is the fun of the unknown. You're hair looks beautiful and you care for it well. I'm sure you'll find a style that you can live with. Just be patient. .D
charwash 2 years ago
Ha! Ha! Haaa!

Zaharam2 2 years ago
Wow. Her hair is longer than I thought! Beautiful. I have teeny tiny coils, too. Wash and gos are a no-no for me, too! :-)
NappyNFree 2 years ago 3
I felt like the camera didn't really pick up on the texture well. Her hair is so coily and luscious when wet. But as soon as it dries it draws up to her head like a snail in a shell. I wish that I could find a product that would work for her in a wash-n-go!
Zaharam2 2 years ago
Let me know when you find something. I am watching! :-)
NappyNFree 2 years ago
You know, it is funny that when her hair is in puffs, people always think that it is short, and comment on Baby Girl's hair. Baby Girl is always sure to tell the commentor that "Big Girl's hair is long too." It is just a different texture and wave pattern than mine or the Baby's. I'm glad that I can do WNG's but I envy her hair. I love the way it waves up (when pulled back) with just oil and water! And her twist outs are enviable! My hair doesn't hold styles the way her's does!
Zaharam2 2 years ago
What Conditioner did you use exactly?
FhrizzBall 2 years ago
I used the EO Lavender and Aloe. It smells divine! It feels a bit thin because most of the content is essential oils. My Big Girl's hair drinks moisture like a fish in water! I got that huge bottle of EO conditioner for about $8 at Marshal's
