  • 3:07-3:30 is my favorite part, pink floyd is my favorite classic rock band they're so gifted in so many levels.

  • Pink Floyd - EMPTY SPACES. E M P T Y S P A C E S.

  • coke+beer+malboro+floyd = best nigth ever

  • i was normal dude...until i saw this....now everything is around floyd.

  • I've loved PF since 75 and never touched drugs ever.

  • One must hear Floyd at least once a day

  • lets just all be honest anyone who loves floyd has smoked weed at some point in their lives

  • @richieallport i listen to Floyd most everyday, i havent smoke pot or done acid ever. not that im one of those super conservatives thats totally against it.

  • @mikicheer1

Well i have tried most drugs in my younger years believe me man they all enhanced the floyd experience. I'm 100% drug free nowadays but these tunes bring back some good memories ;X

  • @richieallport

Been a long time fan and have never even taken a puff off of a joint or a cigarette.

    :P

  • british people create freaky stuff. ALL HAIl MY FREAKYNESS!

  • Every one knows the flowers is a mataphor of sex wars no

  • and this kids is why this movie is considered a stoner movie.

  • its actually call "Empty Spaces"

  • Is it a message that tells us we can do all kinds of things to amuse us, but we can never really enjoy them as long as we don't trust each other? (hence the backs to the wall, as in protection from backstabbing?)

  • @nightlydruid Actually, it's meant to represent the various ways in which rock stars (and society in general) fill their lives with meaningless material posessions, trying to replace human contact and relationships with them. Instead of filling a void, they only fuel the feeling of isolation and alienation (the wall)

  • masterpiece

  • JESUS! I was a huge fan of this when I was 12...man, the stuff I watch NOW isn't as effed up as this!

  • Thumbs up if you know the secret message!

  • @47issues

  • @47issues why not let the rest know?

  • Excellent message with the part where the church is ran over.

    Then watch 3's A Charm

  • Roger Waters. Genius.

  • what ar they telling us it right in front of us but we cannt see it and stay away from what farm?

  • Do tours of the east? Contract diseases? Bury bones? Break up homes? Send flowers by phone? Take to drink? Go to shrinks? Give up meat? Rarely sleep? Keep people as pets? Train dogs? Raise rats? Fill the attic with cash? Bury treasure? Store up leisure? But never relax at all With our backs to the wall
  • The lyrics to this are so brilliant I wanted to post them but apparently it's going to take 2 postings due to the length. Sorry! But I think it's worth it. What shall we use to fill the empty spaces Where waves of hunger roar? Shall we set out across this sea of faces In search of more and more applause? Shall we buy a new guitar? Shall we drive a more powerful car? Shall we work straight through the night? Shall we get into fights? Leave the lights on Drop bombs
  • Is this actually on the album? One of the best in my opinion.

  • @burt2800

it was orriginally supposed to be but they couldnt fit it on a vinyl (sorry if i spelled that wrong) so the album version is basically the opening with slightly altered lyrics and leads in Young Lust

  • Comment removed

  • Favorite part of the movie, love Pink Floyd but the movie gets hard to watch, great music though, but though it sacred me when I was younger but now my favorite scene and song in the movie

  • I don't know about you, but I'm storing up leisure

  • bury leisure but never relax at all

  • i saw this movie on vh1 last night but they cut out half of the shit in the movie !!!!!!! it pisses me of!!! but it was a good movie

  • yeah gerald scarfe is the best!!!!!!!

  • It's all about space. In the olden days all they had were these now legendary things called vinyl LPs. And they were good. Except for the fact that 22 minutes of music on one side is all ya got, that is. Anything longer required a disc that required a different playspeed and degraded sound quality. Add to the fact that the song order couldn't be jumbled and you lose this gem. It really should have been released as a special CD mix or something though

  • maybe this is my favorite song by them

  • @mocebeat C´mon there are tons of better songs

  • I really wish they kept this song in the album. This is probably one of my favorite songs by them.

  • at 2:29 it looks a guy trying to take a dump but he cant because he is in a wall lol

  • this is empty spaces

  • this song is better than empty spaces/young lust. I wish they had kept it on the original album.

    Bury treasure

    Store up leisure

    But never relax at all

WITH OUR BACKS TO THE WALL!

  • never relax at all....

  • this movie came one, and i was ashamed that i had not seen it (i am an Lover of PF)

so i watched it, and as you could probably guess, MY BRAIN EXPLODED

  • They should have removed bring the boys back home and put this on there. This song is so epic.

  • Aww, you should have uploaded the ending bit to this scene as well, where the burglars are arrested and two old ladies sneak up and steal everything from the smashed window :P

  • @Yownanymous

i lughed so hard at that part i was never expecting that XD

  • @Yownanymous

    i ment laughed*

  • Saw Roger Waters live at the United Center in September with my dad. Amazing

  • Hey, Roger Waters. I got a couple favors to ask you.

    1.Go back in time.

2.Put this song on The Wall.

3.Take "Is There Anybody Out There?" off.

  • @wantsomecake328 i love is there anybody out there

  • @wantsomecake328 No, fuck you. Leave is there anybody out there & remove bring the boys back home.

  • @NickTarantula Yeah, I agree with you.

But do you really have to be a d*ck about it?

  • @wantsomecake328 Sorry about tht, I wasn't trying to be.

  • @NickTarantula FYI the live version of The Wall (also called Is There Anybody Out There) has What Shall We Do Now on it.

  • the song is on the wall concert cd that came out like 10 yrs ago

  • Any body going to the big show Saturday at MSG?

  • Ive got a bike you can ride if you like , it;s a got a bell a thing that rings and things to make it look good : )

  • @ryan3685able waaaaaaaaaaaaay different song. lol. good one though.

  • is it live version or wtf?

Album the wall got empty spaces but not what shall we do now

    im confused..

  • @S4M3L it was on the movie and wasn't on a lot of albums due to time constraits.. it's on a lot of the newer ones though i believe.

  • @S4M3L

it only in the wall the movie...

there are a few songs that were never heard on there as well as a few from the final cut.

  • i wish they put what shall we do now on the album... i personally think this is one of their best form the wall album

  • this was the best scene of the best movie in the world

  • @robotsant77 i personally think the trial was the best scene in the movie

  • @mdogmilhouse91 yeah maybe your right. but this is still pretty awesome and so is the nazis rally when he sings in the flesh. doesnt matter this is the best movie in the world

  • @robotsant77 yea the movie does kick ass i actually just finished watching it right now

  • @mdogmilhouse91

    me too

i wish the whole movie was animated similarly because of it, a remake perhaps?

  • when i first saw the film (11 years), my mom said me, the film is very sadly and i did not understood why, but now (14 years) i saw it and i understood that, and why my mom said me that

  • 2:25

  • This isn't the name of the song...

  • isnt it empty spaces?

  • This is empty spaces..............

  • it's empty spaces/what shall we do now. :/

  • Anyone notice the reference to the song "Dogs"?

  • Its called empty spaces. The part about buying a new guitar and all that jazz is called what shall we do now.

  • i thought it was called empty spaces? o.O well who gives a damn whatever the name is this song is fuckin G R E A T.

  • Easily top 5 Pink Floyd. The lyrics represent our biggest stupidity.

  • The really name of this song is "Empty Spaces - what shall we do now "

  • I love on the commentary Roger's mentions that when approached to play Pink by his agent, the actor said, "Fucking Pink floyd rubbish"

But he did an amazing job, just as the actor who portrayed Ian Curtis

  • @deathbypowerglove yes indeed powerful and gr8

  • the song is empty spaces, on this section there should have been a subliminal message, but instead of it there are some semi-subliminal images

  • It's really... frightening ( I hope you know what i mean)

This "flower" part makes me feel strange. You know, that feeling deep within that orders you to scream. There are so many symbols in 3 mins...

Anyway I think "Empty Spaces" fits the album better, but "The Wall Movie" without "What shall we do now" wouldn't be the same...

Well, the movie turned my brain into shit and made me feel guilty in some way.

  • pink is tha shit i dont now why people dont like i think there crazy if they dont like

  • im not into the whole 3d stuff, but this movie in 3d would blow my mind more then it already has

  • Love this song an video!!!!

  • they NEED to post this song on itunes! and i mean this version. the live one that they do have is ok, but they cut out the beginning, which is a disappointment.

  • @THISACCOUNTISFAIL If you buy the live version of Empty Spaces, you'll notice that the beginning of this song is the end of that one.

  • I really like this song. It just as good as some of Pink Floyd's greatest hits. When I first heard this song it blew me away. Too bad Itunes isn't selling it. I would really like to have What Shall We Do Now? on my Ipod. I mean it was on the album so I dont understand why Itunes wouldn't be selling it.

  • @dolphins170 The song on the original "Wall" album is actually a shorter version called "Empty Spaces;" this particular recording was never released other than this appearance on the soundtrack of the film (although you can hear a live version on the double album "Is there anybody out there?")

  • @jjobie I beg to differ my friend. I have the original vinyl record of this album and it is commpletely different from any other version of it (mainly the cd). for starters this song and "Empty Spaces" both appear on it. Plus "Empty Spaces" comes in between "Don't Leave Me Now" and "Another brick in the wall part 3." Also "Hey You" comes in between "Cumfortably Numb" and "The show must go on." Sorry if I come off as a jerk I don't mean to.

  • @dolphins170 - what edition do have? Is it an import? I can't speak for what's on the CD as the only CD version I have is the one that's included in the "Shine On" boxed set.

    But~

Ah! I get it now. Ok, If you're going by the printed lyrics (on the actual sleeves for the two LPs in the original release) then I know what it is: The songs on the sleeves are not only printed out of order, but "What Shall we Do Now" isn't on the LP itself. Give the LP a listen again, you'll see what I mean...

  • @jjobie I would listen to the album again but the Lp's got warped. So there is no way to listen to the album again ecause the songs are scratchy and they skip every 2 seconds.

  • @dolphins170 , It wasn't on the album; only on the video.

  • no it is not "what shall we do now" it is Empty spaces

  • @DKrazzDK Yes it is What Shall We Do Now, it's a variation of the Album Version "Empty Spaces" That was created for the movie, if you listen to the both of them you will notice an obvious difference... mainly "What Shall We Do Now?" is longer with different lyrics.

  • @menes40 No, What Shall We Do Now? was recorded first, and shortened to Empty Spaces. But it's still What Shall We Do Now?.

  • i love this movie because theirs actual feeling and pain.

  • Actually, this was the second part of Empty Spaces, but it was too long to put on Vinyl. So instead, they included it in the movie and called it "What Shall We do now?"

  • this song is called "empty spaces"

  • No, this is What shall we do now. it was supposed to be on the wall originally but it was to long so they put empty spaces instead.

  • @takesometokes only on the album

  • look up "fantastic planet"

  • keep people as pets!

  • It took two years to make all The Wall's animation... like 15 minutes all along.

  • suitemambo: The artist is a brilliant cartoonist named Gerald Scarfe. Very well known for his satiric political characters

  • who drew all this ?

  • Gerald Scarfe!

  • buy it put on comp and get it like your rest duh or you like free shit

  • @nhlrotti actually i like free stuff if it's available, which is is. It's not available for purchase but I d/led a program that let me convert this video to mp3 :) neener neener

  • I love this sequence and song, any way to get it in mp3??

  • SHOOT IT IN THERE, AND GET HER GOOD!

  • this was buck wild when i was on shrooms

  • You'll actually find lyrics for both versions in the lyric booklet for The Wall album/CD. Waters had wanted to have both songs on the album, one being a reprise of the other, kind of like how he squeezed in two versions of "In The Flesh/?" on there. But by the time they realized they couldn't fit both tracks onto the 4 album sides, it was too late to revamp the album lyric booklet, as it had already gone to press.

  • Actually the song is called What shall we do now? the shortened album version is called Empty Spaces, they had to shorten What shall we do now? because of the time constraints on an album but the movie still got the full version of the song hence why it's called What shall we do now? on the movie and Empty Spaces on the album.

  • Stoned grammer school flashbacks wierdmindset from moving state to state.

If The Wall is in Blueray then please Santa?

Daddy needs his Floyd in High Def!

  • you are correct wolfy

  • actually this is what shall we use - Because this song isnt on the album, they cut it out. it's only on the actual DVD of the wall. I always wondered why i couldnt find it on the album :\

  • best part 2:26 2:44

  • Actually it is called what shall we do now...... the lyrics are what shall we use.........

  • It's not 'what shall we do now', it's 'what shall we use?'. The song is Empty Spaces and he's referring to what they should use to fill the empty spaces.

  • theres a song after it called what shall we do now

  • @beanieb22

you are correct, the name of the song is Empty Spaces, and the lyrics are 'what shall we use to fill the empty spaces?'

  • Empty Spaces and What Shall We Do Now? are two different songs.

  • agree

    :)

  • should we get into fights leave the lights on drop bombs. AWESOME i love pink floyd

if u dont like pink floyd then FUCK YOU!!!!!

  • Damn Straight!! Fuck em'! FUCK EM' ALL!

  • @0072817 NO fuck you! Any band with the name pink in it must be girly. Just

  • Where can i get the MP3 of this song.

I can only find the "live version" on the wall, is there a non-live version of it? :(

  • this is an original track of the movie, wasn't included on the album because of time limitations. it never been published on a disc, LP, or some.

Your opcion, as a i've do it, is to download this video and convert into mp3.

    hope being help.

    ciao mano.

  • Comment removed

  • could someone tell me why this isnt on the album?

  • It's part of the movie "The Wall" :)

  • the movie came out after the album...but technically people first heard "what shall we do now" during their 1980-81 tour "Is there anybody out there... Live". you can get that very album that contains this song

  • I got the same qustion, I can only find it on the Live "Wall" version. : (

  • because when the band made the song it wouldn't fit on the LP due to the very little time they could fit into it. so they skimmed down and made a very smaller version of the song know as "empty spaces".

  • time limit of a vinyl.

  • Could someone explain the flower analogy to me please. I don't fully understand it. =)

  • its a example of how women are like. they will bring you down

  • it just shows the domination of Pink's wife throughout there relationship.

  • dance of male and female gone bad

  • When i first saw this I didn't get what the flowers were (even though I was 13) and just thought it was some pretty cool animation. Then I showed my friend and she didn't get it either. And then I showed my brother and he didn't get it. And then I was watching the movie with my mom... and of course it was just then that I understood. How embarrassing...

  • @TheMadcapPiper what do the flowers mean? is it sex or something?

  • @pinol928 well.. yeah... the one on the left is the dude parts and the one on the right is the lady parts and, well... just watch it.

  • @TheMadcapPiper SO THE BIG QUESTION IS... WHEN DID YOU GET IT? lol

  • @TheMadcapPiper noice

  • What shall we do now???? This is "Empty Spaces" sir.

  • It's called What Shall We Do Now? on the movie. It's a different version, longer with an whole other faster, second part. Empty Spaces is the shorter album version of the song. It had to be shortened to fit on the LP. It cuts off right where the drums pick up here. In all reality the proper title is What Shall We Do Now?, as the song was renamed to Empty Spaces when they had to cut off the second part, the section where the whole "Shall we... " questions come in.

  • No, is "What shall we do now?" a reprise of "Empty Spaces", which wasn't included in The Wall album due to space restrictions, but was included in the movie

  • Empty Spaces Movie Version

  • isnt that empty spaces !?! the first part of the song befor the break down sounds almost the same but the break down that i know is ..."I am just a new boy.. stranger in his town"

can some one tell me what is the real version?

  • well for the movie they changed a little bit of the actual empty spaces song like the lyrics at the beginning are different, but instead of going straight into the young lust part which is the "I am just a new boy.." part, they added that part here call "what shall i do now" thats what this songs breakdown part is called

  • And what a tune it is too, one of my all time faves by the Floyd.

  • oh hell yea the movie version and album version are both amazing songs, idk which i like better

  • this version was not in the album, coz it was too long , but they used it here :D

  • whats really the name on this song.... ?

  • What Shall We Do Now...

  • @fliflofla It's Empty Spaces.

  • @cyaxeres actually it's called "empty spaces"

  • @Punxerklc friend, it was actually ''What Shall We Do Now'' first. But they made it shorter in order to keep the album in current size and also took some other songs out. It's quite bullshit but it happened that way... And this volume they ever played in concerts instead of Empty Spaces as in album...

  • @cyaxeres oh, didn't know that :)

  • @cyaxeres Ugh such a fuckin' lame move couldn't they get rid of something else? Or release a special version of the album 'cause in this version of the song Roger Waters' voice sounds just sublime ("do tours of the east/ contract disease etc)

  • @cyaxeres Is What Shall We Do Now made only for the movie or is it in another album?

  • @zeldafan1998 for the movie but wasn't released on the album. neither was When the tigers broke free which there was a single published and was also released with te rerelease of The Final Cut

  • @zeldafan1998 it was one of the tracks in the album at first. But later they planned to make the album shorter and took some of the tracks out. That's just bullshit commercial but the reality, friend...
