  • Pebbles!! The little filly with the huge heart!! That took it to the boys time and again throughout her career!! Recently saw a program on HRTV from 2009 that showed some of the best horses and races of the first 25 years of the Breeders Cup. Pebbles 1985 BC Turf win was among those races. It was said that Pebbles was such a nervous and high strung filly that trainer Clive Brittain gave her a pint of guinness everyday, and she always had her own traveling pony to help with her nerves!!

  • Pebbles was one of the great fillies of all time, and as noted did have a ton of trouble, which can happen on seven-eighths of a mile turf courses in particular.

Too bad the quality of picture of this race is as bad as it is. Perhaps someone can re-upload this and the other 1985 BC races at some point.

  • Strawberry Road had webbed feet. Pity it wasn't a soft track.

  • Poor ride on Strawberry Road cost him the race, had the rails and came out wide on the turn while the winner stayed on the fence. He was a class horse winning in four countries.

  • @tigerrish what are you taking? Pebbles came from nearly last to win the race and had trouble in running. Strawberry Road would not have won this race if you ran it 10 times.

  • @kelletman What Im talking about it that Pebbles never went around a horse for the entire race and the moment Strawberry Road left the rails on the turn, who was right behind him??....Pebbles. She took his position on the rails after his jockey mysteriously pulled him wide on the turn. Had SR rider stayed on the fence she would not have won the race because she had no where else to go.

She was an outstanding horse thats for sure, but had SR not left the fence he would have won.

  • @tigerrish The draw did not help Pebbles, that is why she had to be dropped in behind the field, thus giving Strawberry Road a massive start, Pebbles in 1985 closed from more than 13 lengths back and was even blocked at the top of the stretch before finishing resolutely, if Pebbles had not given away so much ground at the start she would have won that race by a very wide margin. SR had the run of the race and did not have to give away that much ground, but SR still could not win.

  • @tigerrish Another thing you seem to forget, Pebbles did not only win the race, she smashed the course record in a time of 2:27 established a new Aqueduct course record, lowering the previous mark by 1 1/5 seconds. On the strength of that single victory in the US, she was awarded the 1985 Eclipse Award for outstanding turf female

  • Great race and the quality of the winner is not lacking.

  • Great race but the quality of the video is lacking...
