I'm not going to lie, I love Intel solely for two reasons: 1) They have an awesome logo, name, and I just feel like Intel is cooler than AMD in some way. 2) They are the ones who have been pushing technology for decades, AMD just seems to do their own consumer-driven market off to the side. One thing that they do here in Phil is pairing i5,i7's and ATI's.But one thing is for sure that a Rampage III(LGA1366) is hell expensive and a Crosshair IV(AM3) is half of the price..Shows that...to have an i7 platform requires alot of cash...We do not like Nvidias ;)

If you look up the reviews on guru3d or something you'll see the Core i5-750 can beat the 965 in some benchmarks. It can be stable overclocked to like 3.8 GHz also. Of course I have nothing against the 965, I'm sure it's fine. Intel CPUs have always been good for me though.
@Usul573 I agree but synthetic benchmarks dont necessarily mean that you can see difference in real time performance between quad CPUs. 32nm Intel CPUs do have advantages, they have integrated graphics processors, But for rigt now they are only dual core cpus (i5 670 for example) and they cost around 300$. I just think that Intel is overpriced/overkill cause motherboards are still bottlenecking the CPUs. Just think that is silly to spend so much money on Intel platform.
$300 for the Core i5-670? Why would you do that? Core i5-661 is basically just clocked slightly lower costing $85 less. Core i3-530 is a pretty decent price and good for a lot of people, $120. What's with the powerful dual cores? Why not just get a Core i5-750, Core i7-860, or Core i7-930 all being cheaper than the Core i5-670? Integrated GPU and 32nm is cool, but doesn't matter too much right? Get a cheap card.

Unless you have big budget i dont see a reason to buy Intel, especially since their newer CPUs dont have same chipset. Intel Core i5 750 blows almost every AMD processor out there right now and only for $200dlls. If you are looking for an upgradeable system go for a AM3 mobo with a good Phenom II, if you want a cheap good system the new i5 is the way to go.
I use amd more for gaming, and from alot of real world benchmarks the Phenom II's would beat or match the C2D's and C2Q's at a fraction of the cost. Though Intel may do better with other applications. So either way each has their own advantages and disadvantages. Most of the time temps depends on how you build your computer.
Most of what you've said is true, but which chip last longer is truly individual. I own Athlon 900Mhz for a full decade, running 24/7, never switch that PC off, except few times due to power loss. I don't think that intel chips last longer is a fact, maybe it has happened to you more often with intel ones, I have different perspective, u get the point.....

Even if i7 is 100% faster (although it's only about 15-20% faster at most), to complete a task, for example HD encoding you need about 13 sec with i7, and GODDAMN it I'm not gonna die within 5-6 seconds added on encoding with AMD platform.... But I will get a headache if I spend $200 more.....

Another thing that I found is that this "comparsion" was perfomed on both systems with ATI cards. Now Ati belonging to AMD, I really doubt Atis winblows driver is optimized in anyway for intels toys. Same would go comparing both with intel gpus. Correct way would be using gpus from in independant makers or intel+nv vs amd+ati combo.

If you just want a fast quad core and save some money, get a Phenom II X2 550, they're about $250 for a 3.2Ghz quad core. Just get that and a decent DX10 card and You'll be able to play any game, not every game on the highest settings but It's all you need.

phenom II are the only good processors that can be overclocked, every other amd processor failed completely compared to intel. for example the P4 vs athlon.

Most of what you've said is true, but which chip last longer is truly individual. I own Athlon 900Mhz for a full decade, running 24/7, never switch that PC off, except few times due to power loss. I don't think that intel chips last longer is a fact, maybe it has happened to you more often with intel ones, I have different perspective, u get the point.....

Even if i7 is 100% faster (although it's only about 15-20% faster at most), to complete a task, for example HD encoding you need about 13 sec with i7, and GODDAMN it I'm not gonna die within 5-6 seconds added on encoding with AMD platform.... But I will get a headache if I spend $200 more.....

Another thing that I found is that this "comparsion" was perfomed on both systems with ATI cards. Now Ati belonging to AMD, I really doubt Atis winblows driver is optimized in anyway for intels toys. Same would go comparing both with intel gpus. Correct way would be using gpus from in independant makers or intel+nv vs amd+ati combo.

On linux:
AMD + Nvidia = cheap, but no top-notch cpu perfomance, awesome 3D.
Intel+Nvidia= awesome, but MAY be costly.
Intel+Ati=good cpu, but high probability 3D wont work AT ALL.
AMD+Ati=no comment.
Im writing this from prehistoric athlon3200+(+gf6800) and I will upgrade next month. With current i7 perfomance and ati driver quality, I dont have much of a choice :/

1) They support linux
2) Newest i7 920 kicks lastest Ph.II in perfomance and energy efficiency, costing only 200€ in europe. google for "cpu perfomance chart"
AMDs Ati has extremely, extremely bad linux support (unlike nv), offering to opensource its drivers, still with little action. Last time I had to install linux on nb with ati m200, foss drivers worked way better than atis own.
So Im stuck to intel+nv. Amd plz improve.

It depends on what you want.
If you want the most powerful x86 CPU and money's not a object, get a Core i7-975 overclocked to 4Ghz with liquid cooling and three super fly Nvida Video Cards in tri-sli and watch your electric bill skyrocket.
If you just want a fast quad core and save some money, get a Phenom II X2 550, they're about $250 for a 3.2Ghz quad core. Just get that and a decent DX10 card and You'll be able to play any game, not every game on the highest settings but It's all you need.

There is much more on ATi then nVidia don't have like crossfire, Havok like you mentioned which is very popular on many games, many good engines are made with ATi graphics, like the X-Ray engine that beat the crap out of Crysis engine, and ATi is power saver as well
Low power high performance it's a reason why the ATi can't beat the GTX 295, thats because they have to invent a card that save power and also can produce more power, thats very hard i gone tell you

phenom II are the only good processors that can be overclocked, every other amd processor failed completely compared to intel. for example the P4 vs athlon.

and a OCed phenom II 920 to 3.1ghz and this thing is blazing fast why would i want a faster computer it already maxes out games and it cost less than a thousand dollars

hmm well i guess its preff.. i have better luck with Nvidia as far as use of openGL gos as well as compatibility with my flavor of linux and netBSD...but for the record if ANYTHING is beter than the intel onboard in my netbook... but it gets its job done....for now. (its a childs play thing..basic functions) im almost swayed to go AMD on my next desktop just to see if i can teak things...

THE I7 motherboards support triple channel ram at blindingly FAST speeds also they can take up to 12gb.... the AMD boards they are talking about are capped at 8gb. ALSO ATI BLOWS... thats why all console games use nvidia chipsets.. the naked eye might not see the diff.. but bench marks dont lie. and lets face it for those of us who KNOW how to use that kind of power... theres NO substitution. think of it like the diff btween fapping it to playboy vs shagging one of the bunnies....
