It would help if you knew exactly where the antenna was inside the phone. I would place both tips (because that is where the corona comes out) about one inch from the kernal. Even then it depends on how much power your cell is putting out, and that can be adjusted on how far you are from the tower. Cell phones can turn up their own power as you get further from a tower.
