  • this special song takes me back to the kentish drovers pub on the old kent road london se15. Motown has always been my most collected label

when people and young teenagers showed respect towards each other. i am glad i grew up when this lovely music was being played. 52 now and still getting goose bumps when i hear it thank you for a good feeling.

  • I AM JUST MAKE BELIEVIN!! SERIOUS LYRICS!

  • Takes me back to my dads house, when we wore kids, played this song all the time, now i do the same, from Chris Aguirre in calif.

  • Fantastic....still 40 years on> One of my favourite tracks of all time> take me back to the 70's please

  • Possibly the best song writers ever - ooooh babyyyyy why cant we be lovers, classic.

We didnt have any soul like this in the UK in this era, we had mods & rockers who went to the coast every bank holiday & fought each other, small faces, kinks, beatles etc.

  • Hearing this song and this music from an era and a time that was probably the best and the happiest time in the history of black America, and then juxtaposing all that joy and beauty and fun times that I experienced then against this petty ass saggy pants imitation ass trivial and trite bullshit that I am witnessing now, ABSOLUTELY BREAKS MY HEART!

  • Who is the blonde with Lamont? She looks like Debbie Gibson...

  • love this! A favourite at all the Southport Weekenders!

  • utterly majestic, the minor key at 1.22 in makes me shiver

  • this is one of the best love songs. by these talented brothers. SOUL SOUL,SOUL

  • Gorgeous pure Holland-Dozier-Holland class.

  • @tapdancegirl, What does a "white" girl have to do with this classic music??? It's 20l0, not 1950!!!! Love is colorblind!

  • take the white girl out of the photo its so disgusting the tramp

  • This song came out right after Motown left the city.....but HDH said "I aint going nowhere".

  • Haunting, sexing and soulful.

  • @gina72916 Loved your comment: "haunting, sexy and soulful". I would also add poignant and bittersweet. Often when I hear the opening refrain of this song, I am almost immediately transfixed into a mournful yet hopeful state of mind. That's my tribute to this perfect synergy of musical arrangement, lyric and vocal.

  • great song what people dont understand is that the words in these songs never die this song will still b good 1000 years from now long as people still fall in love PRINCE el RASHID

  • utterly genius vocal and the major to minor middle section is heaven

  • Loved this song. Great melody and nice vocal. It still sounds fantastic. Holland Dozier and Holland were great songwriters.

BTW, exactly who did the vocals on this??

  • One of my favorite hit singles, the saxophones make it especially good & soulful; the 45 rpm record label says, featuring "LAMONT DOZIER."

  • @glxy55 The very talented Lamont Dozier

  • @useverlastin Thanks!

  • @glxy55 The vocals are performed by Lamont Dozier

  • @motownartie Thanks

  • Wow!!! I love this!!

    So much that I even

    like Coke Escaveda's

    cover of it!

    I think Coke is Carlos

    Santanna's cousin.

  • @Gr8LilLady and Sheila E's daddy!

  • Simply the best Love song ever

  • AMEN!!!

  • sat with my eyes closed just listening...more great memories for me..

  • this is the first time i hear this song is now, very beautiful,my future work ,try to find the album of this.

  • one of my favourite records of all time.

  • post MOTOWN bliss,,theres a minor key feel to this beautiful song,, so appealing,,a sort of melancholy about it,,cant explain it really..great sax and wonderful lyrics,,the almost perfect presentation of soul music..

  • So Proud to be a Detroiter....I can hear other Motown artist in this song like Michael Henderson, The Four Tops and the background singers so classic Motown out cold... so passonate so clever. Thank You for such wonderful music Lamont Dozier and Holland too. We will never forget you all.

  • @sevensouley You know it! I fell in love with it for the section 2.11-2.32.. There is another version out there but the both have the same effect on me.

  • @sevensouley : You know it! I fell in love with it for the section 2.11-2.32.. There is another version out there but they both have the same effect on me. This song is one of those numbers I had to play more than 5 times straight ! :)

  • why u call ur self that try forget ur complex

  • these guys were bigtime motown writers right?

  • Wonderful sound

  • Pure soul, pure gold - Motown at its best and such a shame that they don't make music like this any more. That sexy sax pulls at my heart.

  • One of my favourite songs ever. Would love to dance with someone gorgeous while this was playing I hate the awful sloppy songs they play nowadays....but this...... It takes me places.

  • this is one of my all time favourite tracks I still have the single which one day I will transfer to cd .......... one day! along with another few hundred sitting gathering dust. I'm back at school

  • My favourite head-in-the ashtray slow jam.

    Kingston, Jamaica, Blackout Disco 1972........

No self respecting party ended without this song.

    Those were the days !!

  • It does not any better than Lamont singing.

A cool dude, a brilliant singer and song writer.

  • Who is singing lead and who is speaking the speaking part? Are the Holland Brothers singing on this?

  • Lamont Dozier

  • Such a beautiful tune spoilt by his condescending words to his woman.

'I say I'm leaving but I don't have the heart', 'And if I say there aint no love, you MAY still see it showing', 'Girl you're a HABIT I can't break' etc.

Does anyone know of an instrumental version ?

  • Oh come on, lighten up. Listen to it again. "I'd fall apart if you weren't there when I awake". Some times my hubby makes me so mad I could send him to the stars with out the USS Enterprise and he sometimes wants me to be the first woman to walk on the moon with out the space shuttle, but we have been married for 36 years. never separated. "More love, more joy than age and time can ever destroy". Smokey Robinson. Live long and prosper.

Ladies, men talk a lot of stuff, but they aren't going anywhere, unless you let come by every now a then for some oldtime stuff. NOT!!!

  • Right on sis!

  • I wonder who's handling the bassline. I'd bet it's Jamerson but I'm leaning more towards Babbitt.
