Walnut Hall Limited own him after the end of this year, and when he is no longer able to breed...which could very well be twenty years from now...he will have a forever home, and a BEAUTIFUL home at that, with them:-)
spang99 - actually, great horses do end up at the knacker - look at the Thoroughbred named Ferdinand. He was the '87 Kentucky Derby winner that ended up in a Japanese slaughter house.
This horse, and most harness racing horses WILL NOT end up at the butcher. This horse is actually already arranged to begin a breeding career next year. Most Standardbreds go on to be bred, be pets/riding horses, or Amish horses.
Nothing about the original post or horse. I love Deweycheatumnhowe. he appears to have the heart of a lion and the disposition of a puppy. I was replying to the person that stated that horses like the great Deweycheatumnhowe end up at the butcher. Nothing could be further from the truth.
You can't tell by watching the video but the tail tie is connected to a post behind him and once he goes into the water the rope holding his head is tied, leaving him swimming stationary for about 20 minutes. The head and tail tie prevent him from leaving the pond, but he can swim sideways a bit. Then, you just untie the tail rope from the post and he swims freely to the other side. Saves a ton of time instead of having to wait with each horse, you can carry on with work while they exercise!
I give Ray all the credit in the world. Ray has been doing this for quite some time and has ceratinly paid his dues. Good luck in the Hambo, Ray. As they say in the comic books... "You're a good man, Charlie Brown."
Looked like he was enjoying the water. <)
