  • This guitar really sings, the best I have ever heard, it brings the emotions out, you feel the music.

  • an orgasm for the soul.

  • This is what makes a great solo. No words and you get more emotions out of this.

  • I wonder if the title means "Where were you when I was searching for and waiting for you?" OR "Where were you when this took place?"

  • This gently soothes the soul!

  • GREAT SONG!

  • pains me to contemplate it but.... better then Clapton?

  • this should have been on the Heat soundtrack

  • Connexion avec l'Univers ...

  • Whenever I play this song on guitar or perform it to an audience, I have to wear sunglasses to hide my tears. Parts of this song, I just break down, it's just so powerful.

  • Anybody ever rode that Soarin' ride at Disney World? I think this would be the perfect song to play while riding that!

  • the best !

  • So much said in a song without words.

  • I never want to meet the 13 people who didn't like this.

  • all harmonics and whammy :O I'm melting

  • @xSkarprox no whammy

  • @teracite i think he means whammy bar

  • @xSkarprox i used to wonder how he did this with all harmonics but the main tune is fretted notes, you see how he does it live

  • If you open this song in another window and listen to both at the same time with one only a few seconds behind it it resonates like a lovely round.

  • beck has a touch I've never heard before from others...

  • this is the most awesome solo I've ever heard.

  • I woke up with this song

  • I had this played at my young daughter's funeral

  • @lordsong7 My deepest sympathy to you and your family, and very nice picking this beautiful song.

  • I saw this tour with Tony & Terry , It was the one and only time I've ever seen Jeff Beck live , I still get chills when I hear this song.

  • God created Jimi an Jeff to give a meaning to the electric guitar.

  • Wow...

  • It defies belief that 13 people clicked on dislike. Unlucky for them.

  • 2 years trying to play this song like beck and right now i can't do it

  • Jeff Beck does perfectly what most guitarists can't do at all.

  • Tremendous.

  • Those opening few notes just made my nipples go hard.....so amazing.

  • one of my favorite Jeff Beck creations

  • just epic! this will always be on every ipod i get.

  • I heard this guy once caught a bullet with his bare hands =O

  • @drunkonshadows07 Teeth...it was with his teeth. He then crushed it with his thumb and forefinger.

  • this song is everything that matters in the world! it's like someone who's finding the meaning of life!

  • No offense to those who clicked on dislike, everyone has an opinion. Try playing it, however.

  • I have shook the hand of the Master GeeTar player Jeff Beck This song is just a great song when im cruising in my deuce roadster .When we are gone from this planet this song will live on in Hot Rodders 4 sure .

  • i go through musical phases, first the beatles, then hendrix, then zeppelin, then the stones, back to hendrix, then dire straits/mark knopfler, then pink floyd, then stevie ray vaughan, and now jeff beck

    its been rather fun :D

  • This man is playing with the strings of your soul.

  • This song was an inspiration for Freddie Mercury and Brian May to produce Bijou, which is also one of the beautiful ballads I've ever heard

  • @queriassaber That's actually why I came here to hear this :P I don't normally listen to jeff beck. But whene I heard this was the inspiration for Bijou I just had to hear it :D

  • The best in his class!!!!!

  • The album as a whole is not that great, but this song alone is worth the money. And the cover art is really cool, too.

  • Jeff Beck has come out with some great guitar work, but this song is Beck at his best. Played with such beauty and grace, this musical piece puts you on an ethereal plane; your mind drifts into a floating universe of guitar excellence as only Jeff can give it. The guitar/synthesizer combo here compliment and synchronize into a melodic tune worthy of anyone who can appreciate it. Jeff can make his guitar sing like nothing else; and in this song it sounds like heaven. Do it, Jeff.

  • How we can play this song?! That's impossible!

  • this is the only instrumental i have ever heard that genuinly makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

  • it' s the most beautiful think I've ever heard

  • Wish this was a really long song is all....

  • ...Theres no words for it...

  • I've been right here waiting on you. Welcome to the other side!

  • Isn't there a longer version of this song?

  • Pretty good music, considering Jeff Beck plays guitar only to pay bills as he himself said.We need more musicians, that are humble like this.

  • ...so touching, and so beautiful...every time I hear it. One of the most incomparable creations; there aren't many songs that can strike such deep emotional chords.

  • @Banyuaigo That's a fact....

  • imho I find his composition "Where Were You" to be his loveliest exploration of the microtonal within a twelve-tone framework. Thank you, Maestro.

  • magnifique !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • No matter how hard u try, u can't do this. Jeff beck is amzazing and this song is the greatest thing ever made on a guitar

  • brian may said that this was the greatest recording of an electric guitar ever

  • @Aljax21 As soon as you said that, I cried. Most emotional guitar performance I've ever heard in my life, more so than Roy Buchanan's "The Messiah".

  • @Aljax21 Can you give me the video or article with the exact quote? Not that I don't believe you, but I'm having trouble finding it.

  • This goes to my ole friend Mark N I hope You here this . We'll miss you forever. Keep playing on the other side.

  • That has brought me to tears. So sad, but absolutely amazing.

  • It is hard for me to play this song without tears welling up in my eyes. I played it right after 9/11 and ever since, it's difficult not to connect the two.

Having said that though, i think it's the most beautiful song i've ever heard and Jeff Beck is incredible.

  • Bozzio was amazing on this CD as well as live. I love this CD. Also check out the first Bozzio, Levin, and Stevens CD. Just as amazing.

  • It's incredible, isn't it. Heart wrenching. Take care.

  • what effects does he have on that guitar?? anyone?

  • @razmatazma

Long Delay, Lexicon Reverb Rackmount, Marshall jcm800

  • Cannot play this song enough...

Loved him with Tal on bass at Clapton's x road concert...

    Pure Musical Genius.

This performance? He's second to no one..

  • how does he prevend his strings from getting out of tune, after so much using the tremolo?

  • @ASFM11 world class guitar?

  • woooooow i fucking loooove this song jeff beck is so god damn amazing, this song is life changing haha

  • one of the greatest moments in blues history. also try "muddy water blues" by paul rodgers, and "the prophet" by gary moore

  • lidesnowi........you have nailed it!!

Jeff is the master of expression.

  • Bijou by Queen was inspired by this excellent intrumental song.

  • Fill your Tub with warm water... Lay down... To where your ears are covered.... Normally sound just doesnt sound the same when water covers your ears... but If you listen to this song when your whole body is covered.... its as though your whole body is listening, not just your ears. Call me crazy... but this tune just moves through me... and one night i realised that the sensation was only greater when my ears were under water. Incredible. this song, the man, A legendary classic.

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!

  • what a track i have it on lp many thanks friend for playing this again

  • Amazing

  • i remember buying this album on vinyl when it first came out, i was about sixteen and was a huge Hendrix fan.. Jeff Beck like Hendrix simply is guitar!! the notes that Beck played and still plays are of another world and everytime i hear him he takes me there, i'm weeping with joy just sitting hear listening, long may you bring joy to music lovers the world over..

  • he hears sounds others cannot even imagine

    then he plays them

i think this piece is one of the finest examples of that

  • Still as fresh as ever. C'mon radio, play this for the rest of the world. Beautiful sound's crosse's the language barrier, like a smile or a tear. This one does both!

  • Keep on SQQUUEEZIINNGGG that note!!! love it.

  • I cry every time I listen to this song. It's so beautiful!

  • This is incredible......I spent the last part of the 1980s in Germany,in the Army. After getting over the rather intense homesickness I began to really appreciate where I was and what I was doing. Guitar Shop was part of the soundtrack of that time and really unique place...from it's cover art to songs like this,it evokes still ......a reminder of a more civilized era. Thanks for posting.
