  • What the heck is going on at 1:16??? Is that landcruiser is doing a u turn? (nice Aston Martin DB9 drives past then too)

  • @Mikkothecat Not sure.. I couldn't see what you're referring to. 1:16??

  • @Mikkothecat Ah... I just saw what you mean. Good spotting. Not sure what it's up to!

  • Nice video! Can anyone tell me the name of this song?

  • @WPBOYcom Check out the description of the video for the name of the songs and artists. Glad you enjoyed the videos.

  • great vid traveled m1 many times holidaying in your lovely land we stayed on bribie hope to get back soon great memorys

  • On long 3-lane stretches of motorway/freeway "Keep Middle Unless Overtaking" applies regardless of speed. Here, you pass in the right lane or left lane.

The left-lane is to be kept clear at all costs.

Australia:- a good reason why our freeway speed limits must never be raised, let alone the issue of lack of continuous median barrier which alone precludes that possibility, let alone also the appalling lane discipline shown.

  • I wish highway driving was that fast...

  • very nice

  • Excellent video man. I visited Australia a few times and I've actually driven up that way before, but it was pretty rainy and nasty that day, so it didn't really add much excitement to it.

Its much better to do it when its really nice outside, and evidently your video proves that. I really like it when you all post videos showing how you all get around in Australia. I miss driving in Australia myself. It was exciting.

  • I done that drive 5 days a week for two year. Any one notice how they find it impossable to drive in the left lane. Only in Queensland is it normal for people to drive 100ks in the middle/right lane. Did you not notice the people passing you on the left??

  • Finally a good southern hemisphere time lapse. I hope to see many more of these.

  • Glad you enjoyed. Unfortunately, we don't have as many miles of quality freeways.. especially where I'm from! Plus, time's always an issue... (for producing). Thanks for watching.

  • Nice video! Pink sky =)

  • Thanks. I'm sure that's just the quality of the web-cam I'm using to do the recording. We don't really have pinks skies in Australia! Only during sunrise and sunsets!

  • I understand) I've just liked it)

  • Thanks for this great Vid! I love this stretch of Motorway and drive it all the time! 5 Stars!

  • I've been looking all over the internet for videos of the M1 motorway! Glad you found my page, which allowed me to find yours. Looking forward to your future videos.

  • How do you know about the M1?

  • I've been studying maps since I was about 5 years old. I can map out the entire Melbourne freeway network, for example (I can even tell you that the West Gate Bridge carries over 180,000 vehicles a day).

  • @kevrosmith: lol, trust me, I know about pretty much about *every* freeway...especially throughout Australia and South Africa.

  • I have already commented on this before, But i just love the video soooo much,

I am dying to drive in Brisbane when i mover there.,

Can anyone give me roughly a 12 month forecast of Beautiful Brisbane.

Thanks and keep the great videos up.

  • great video, great choice of music too, keep up the good work!!! :)

  • Thanks for your comment and for watching.

  • Amazing journey..

I am moving to Brisbane from Scotland. I cannot wait to just stand in that hot hot sun. :P

Any advise on moving there ??

    Thanks and 5 star

  • very simple question!

how lond does it take from brisbane to sunshine coast?

  • simple answer: about an hour.

Depends where you are leaving from, traffic, roadworks etc. and also where on the Sunny coast you are heading. An hour to Caloundra (southern end)... up to another hour if you're heading all the way up to Noosa.

  • thanx for your immadiate reply! Well...one of some schools where i'm examining entrance is in Sunshine Coast though i'v not been there.

when i went to Brisbane by sightseeing a long time ago, it was very good impression,so i was interested what place Sunshine Coast was.

    it's sounds very closer,isn't it?!

  • I had no idea that Keith Urban was Australian until I saw this video. You learn something new everyday!

  • G'day Mate! This brings back great memories from October 08 when we drove up from Brissy to Mooloolaba. There's a famous pub near the Steve Irwin junction - what's it called?Glass House Mountain is over West from there.Nice video, thanks mate! Bazzer

  • G'day! Yeah.. it's the Ettamogah Pub at Aussie World. Glad you enjoyed the ride and I hope the memories were good ones.

  • Australia looks totaly different than I thought. Roads look kinda cool actually over there.

  • Thanks for watching. Hmm.. not too sure what you expected then..? I hope it was dirt tracks and bullock-drawn carriages! :D

  • Well, I thought roads looked like they do in the US, the only difference being that you guy's drive on the left side. Watching this vid however totaly changed my view. Roads look way more European than I expected. Not calling you European though.

  • Believe me, there is no such thing as a road that looks like they do in the US, since our roads are totally different from place to place. You go to some parts of the northeast and you find wide, well-paved, modern roads, but you go a little bit further west and you find some of the ugliest freeways in the world. I'm not saying such a variety is good! In fact I would love it if my country spent less on wars and remodeled our system so it looked as uniformly good as that of Europe.

  • Wow, you guys have some beautiful roads. Our roads are getting really bad since we wasted all our money on Iraq. The song was perfect for your video. ANything new soon? denny

  • Thanks for watching. Unfortunately, not all our roads are this quality. This is down in the metro region of South East Qld, where more than one third of the population of our state lives, but more like 50% of the funding goes there! I'm the in the Far North, so our roads are a bit less exotic (read: "no freeways"!)

And our policticians also only spend enough for the short term they have (and that's only 3 years!) So it's very slow progress: they'd rather leave it as the next pollies problem.

  • Hey, I'm in an Australian Rock band on tour in America. I have been here for over a year and will be here for several more. I miss meat pies so much but I never thought I would get homesick watching that drive. We used to tour the east coast non stop and I felt like I knew every metre of that video. Part of the band lived in Mooloolah and the other half in Caloundra so we are also familiar with both exits the vid ended at. I really wanted you to keep driving!

  • Thanks for watching. Glad it gave you a small taste of home! I've got vids heading into Caloundra, and another I went a bit further up the highway, but I haven't had much time to do more edits to load up yet.

I was hoping the view of the coast as you come over Little Mountain would've been more spectacular than it was, so I left that bit off. Plus there are major road works along Caloundra road at the moment so it's pretty messy.

Where in the States are you touring at the moment?

  • Thanks for the Vid, I am moving to Qld from South Africa soon. I notice you guys don't have a guard rail on the median but then probably don't need it! In SA no guard rail is suicide as rules here are less enforced drunk drivers + guys doing 200Km/h don't make a good combo :-( What is the speed limit in Qld? Thanks

  • Thanks for watching. Sometimes there is a guard rail: either concrete blocks, metal W style or wire, depending on the road design and situation. On the M1, I guess the expectation is that the lanes are far enough apart. Speed limits: 50kph in local streets, 60-80 on arterial roads and 100-110 on the highways/freeways/motorways.

  • Thanks for the info!

  • i had a crash on the gympie arterial last week haha

  • not good to hear.. hope things weren't too bad for you.

  • were you following the black ford falcon the whole way?

  • yeah... actually I was. And the volvo with trailer (see @0:08)... but mum took off well ahead of us! Thanks for watching.

  • speed camera at 2:24 haha

    got the m1 down pat!

  • Yeah... purposely slow down there in that section just to be safe! Though i notice they have white lines in each lane and I'm wondering if that's the photographic zone for each lane...?

  • yeh i think thats how they can prove you were speeding... something to do with the spacing of the lines and the time it took you to go over them

  • good video mate

    my exact thoughts

elimbah- caloundra road is one of the most boring strenches of highway in austrlia

they need something to keep people awake

long enough but drving qld is a treat otherwise yep keith urbans hometown is cabalture

  • Elimbah to Caloundra? Not a chance.

Have you ever tried Emerald to Barcaldine? Tambo to Augathela? On to Charleville? They are long and tiresome. Not to mention, the road surface is terrible compared to metroroads.

  • very beautiful. never been to australia. it is about time i guess

  • Thanks for watching. Make sure you make it Queensland and the beautiful beaches on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts and then head to the Far North: Reef and Rainforest! Plenty of things to do and see in Australia!

  • Just a question; Is there any signs in Caboolture representing Keith? I haven't been to Caboolture in years. I'm from a town South of Brissie (I reckon about 50 minutes from it).

  • Couldn't tell you, I'm sorry. I don't mind his music, but I wouldn't say I'm a fanatic. I mainly added it as I thought it might be something that our friends in the States could relate too if they knew him. Same with Steve Irwin.

  • There are not, no. I come from Morayfield.

  • Great stuff. Thanks for a glimpse in to the roads of the land down under!

  • Nice bit.

  • Nice video! Thanks for the ride. Interesting roads out there in Australia; I looks like a lot of the turns are channelized, and the left side drive makes it even more interesting from an american perspective.

  • Thanks for watching! What does "channelized" mean? I'm not familiar with that term.

And yeah.. I feel the same watching vids from the State: gotta remember that when you guys are in the left lane: you're in the 'fast lane'! Plus the whole right-hand turn being near and the left-hand turn being far at intersections feels odds when you go around the corner.

  • Channelized= Separated from the main lanes by a curb/island(whatever you guys call it! lol)or even stripes. In the beginning of your video, it looked like the left turns had large radii and were separated from the main lanes. That's what we'd call a channelized turn, at least here in the states.

  • I think I know what you mean: like @0:07 and 0:19? In Qld, left hand turns that have an island fall under the rule "Turn left any time with care" and often have a sign saying so as well (what I call a "near" turn). If the lane hits the traffic lights without an island, then you have to wait for the green light, or a green left-hand arrow if there's one on that sequence of lights. In some other states, eg. Victoria, I think they can turn left even on a red light if it's safe to do so.

  • Exactly. Except here in the states, it's a right turn island. They are usually not subjected to the rules of the stop light, and are instead controlled by "Yield" signs. Sometimes the movement is channelized into an added lane on the intersecting roadway, so you can turn right (or left, in Australia) without having to stop at all.

  • "Yield"? Ahh... we call them "Give way" signs: white triangle with red border and the words "Give Way" written in the middle.

The joke when you were a kid was always "okay.. who are we going to give away? The sign says we've gotta give (a-)way someone."

  • Australia is begining to modernise its road laying architechture. Originally, many roads were not channelised, in-to or out-of such turns. On-ramps and offramps were also MUCH shorter than now. On-ramps can be upto 1km long now (which is brilliant). All we need now, are the drivers to actually drive decently. I live at Morayfield btw ;) :D

  • Thanks for the ride!
