Personally i like the Ring way more than the Grudge but they're both good for different reasons. The Grudge is more aggressive hence the name, Kayako is constanstly on the killing spree looking to spread murder where ever. Samara is more mysterious, she haunts you and makes you feel hopeless as the time ticks you get reminders by hauntings that your time to die is coming soon. Both have good concepts.

Hm... which did I like better, or which was scarier to me? If it's the latter, then it's hands-down The Grudge/Ju-on. As far as storyline and whatnot go, it's pretty equal for me. I can't help but love and feel extremely sympathetic toward Samara/Sadako in The Ring/Ringu. In Ju-on, I feel a little sorry for Kayako, but she was kinda... messed-up in the head. Still though, both movies have awesome backstories for the characters, so. :P I must say though, Ju-on affected me way more.
