  • It doesn't even sound like Stairway really :')

  • @DashH90Three It's not. They had to replace it.

  • @DashH90Three i know

  • Not only wasn't a simple riff allowed in the movie, but the tabs have also been blocked on Ultimate Guitar!

  • No stairway? Denied!

  • I Agree, the joke loses totally the point because he is playing anything but Stairway.

  • they had to switch stairway with another song because of legal reasons. so this is something completely different. but hell waynes world rocks \m/

  • Universal or whoever owns the rights to this song are arseholes, even removing fucking tabs off the internet. WTF? They're denying little kids the chance to learn stairway to heaven even tough there is no way learning to play the song can have any kind of impact on their profits.

  • If I had a music store I would get the sign, just incase the opportunity ever came to set someone up for that classic one liner

  • dumbest movie ive ever seen haha

  • The had to change the notes do to copy-write infringement sk that's why it does not sound like stairway to heaven. And it's a joke because when that song came out people played it to much in stores so the workers got sick of it

  • this is indeed zeppelin's greed.

even bigger greed is that they stole stairway to heaven riff from taurus!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • The notes were so out of tune I thought he was trying to play "Sweet Child O' Mine" rofl

  • The music store this was filmed at is right down the street from my house! They still have that Strat on display and the No Stairway sign.

  • it sound der durher by flotsam and jetsam not stairway

  • and the joke is pointless, jeez 5 notes are needed!

  • i like the part where he says "no stairway! denied!"

  • they own a fucking A minor arpeggio... fuckers

  • The ironic thing is that Led Zeppelin stole the riff from another group, spirit.

  • @Cream234 The solo was the same but the lyrics were written by Page and Plant.

  • @EVODproductions They still didnt give thme any credit for pretty much stealing the riff. Shameful.

  • @Cream234 Taurus was aware of it and was okay with it.

  • @EVODproductions Taurus was the name of the song, and just because they didnt care dosent make it any less of a blatant ripoff. Think about it, one of the most iconic(overrated) songs ever was someone elses intellectual property.

  • @Cream234 It isnt someone elses intellectual property. Zeppelin wrote the lyrics and they did not just copy the whole entire song. The two songs differ greatly. It is known for its similarities but not for being an exact copy. In my opinion the song is in no way overrated but I guess that is all based on opinion. Spirit (not Taurus, my mistake) does not consider it to be a blatant ripoff.

  • @EVODproductions My point is that the most recognizible riff of the song was riped off. Led Zeppelin just threw in some ridiculous, non-sensical lyrics and put in a solo for good measure. And yes, this song is overplayed, overrated. I guess im just missing something here.

  • @Cream234 Like I said, the overplayed/overrated thing is a matter of opinion. The lyrics tell a story if you look into them; about a woman who accumulates a great amount of money but cares too much for material things and realizes that she cannot buy her way into heaven. The lyrics are very sensible. This also goes to show that Zeppelin could play anything they wanted because they are the greatest band in history.

  • @EVODproductions Whatever you say Mr. Matter of Opinion. A monkey can write those lyrics. Give me Cream or Jimi Hendrix anyday.

  • @Cream234 Right...a monkey...well enjoy cream and hendrix then.

Sincerely, Mr. Matter of Opinion P.S. the whole argument doesnt matter because it is just a matter of opinion. Adios.

  • @theguywhosnameis Thanks. I am well aware of who wrote Stairway to Heaven.

  • frakking brilliant

  • i want that sign just for the hell of it

  • not even how stairway is played!

  • Check out the chicks eyes during the video.

    She full fails at acting.

  • they needed to be like school of rock and get hundreds of people beg and plead in front of a camera to get the use of a led zep song

  • that sounded nothing stairway

  • “So there I am, in Sri Lanka, formerly Ceylon, at about 3 o’clock in the morning, looking for one thousand brown M&Ms to fill a brandy glass, or Ozzy wouldn’t go on stage that night.

  • That's a very BS rule, Wayne should have burned that place to the ground.

  • @catclaw357 I believe you have my stapler?

  • Wayne, breaking 3rd wall and grinning into the camera, plays the first 5 notes of Stairway to Heaven, slowly, nodding his head with each pluck. The music store employee interrupts Wayne and says "there's a sign on the wall." Wayne laughs and nods, THEN the music store guy points out the sign saying "No Stairway to Heaven"

    They totally ruined the joke.

  • unless your last name is Page, I agree to this rule/

  • alguien sabe poruque no puede tocar stairway to heaven ???

  • If I designed the set, I would've snuck in a sign that read, "NO Angel of the Morning, either."

  • DENIED

  • let's play this song, backwards!

  • I like the part where he says "No Stairway, Denied!"

  • I still never got the joke in that scene to this day.

  • @manoftomorrow79 well its like this....everyone go and try the guitar playing that tune :P so the owner cant stand it anymore...this is due to the fact that staiway to heaven have shit load of time played in the radio and in generall(and it worth it :P )

  • @antonatsis hey i read your comment...all the years i did not get that joke, since i watched that scene as a kid...damnit, thanks a lot!

  • @manoftomorrow79 the joke is everyone plays stairway its so overdone by guitarists its funny

  • @manoftomorrow79 It's common knowledge among guitar players like myself that the very first thing you should do when examining a guitar in which you hold some interest is to play "Stairway to Heaven," as the quintessential rock tune's tonalities slightest wavering shall be made clear and the instrument deemed unsuited to further experimentation. So says the unwritten law of the music store.

  • WHO GIVES A FUCK?! STILL FUNNY!!

  • /watch?v=FOt3r_aNNxE This has the notes.

  • @TripleZ89 has already been posted as a video response by the author but thanks.

  • a paramount 1992 company

  • is it just me or does it sound kinda like he was playing the beginning of sweet child of mine?

  • It kinda sucks because that ruins the whole fucking joke.

  • To me the fact that Stairway was cut out of this and replaced with another riff is an example of greed in the music industry. This scene had him play about 4 notes from the song. Stairway had been around for about 20 years when this came out I would say that they had already made significant money from it. Without this riff being played the joke loses its point. Whoever own the rights to this song is an asshole for not allowing 4 notes from it in one scene

  • @MrBuc128 sometimes it's not about money.

  • @MrBuc128 You're right! Led Zeppelin said they dont care, it was their lawyers that cared!

  • @Deathsquad49 do the lawyers have the rights to the zong, nope, did jimmy page write the song, yes...

  • @MrBuc128 Especially since Page stole the riff from the song Taurus by Spirit.

  • @MrBuc128 FUCK YOU ATLANTIC RECORDS!

  • @RedWolf3487 Yes fuck them indeed

  • @MrBuc128 that would be Jimmy Page

  • Comment removed

  • that didn't sound like Stairway

  • @93Quake i know right

  • @93Quake its 3 first sounds of the song but not acustic

  • @93Quake

My old guitar teacher told me once that he saw it in theaters when it first cam out, and that Wayne actually played the opening lick. When it came out on video, however, they had to change it for copyright reasons.

  • @93Quake ya his fingers are close but do not appear to be the abbreviated Am barre chord this song begins with .

  • "No Stairway, denied!" Love that line!

  • His face is epic.

  • The look on Cassandra's face is priceless.

  • Stairway to heaven always reminds me of this line Haha

  • Loved this movie, but have refused to buy it because of this alteration to all video versions. The joke makes absolutely no sense like this.

  • @eyeh8nbc ahhh right, so that's why it's a diminished chord, cos Led didn't give em the rights?

  • The "Stairway to Heaven" guitar riff was changed for the international, cable, and videotape releases to a generic riff because of disputes in obtaining rights to the first five notes of the song, which appear only in the US theatrical release.

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen led Zeppelin are an english band why would the us release be different.

  • @GuitarEchoes

    read wikipedia and imdb

  • @TEMPmichaelhansen I heard 4 notes.

  • @DEthe5150 but not of stairway...you have to read imdb.
