This & The Mission's Tower of Strength were my introduction into alternative music & have been hooked ever since! Saw SoM live back in '07 at the Astoria but crap sound & too much smoke & red lights on stage made for a disappointing performance. Such a pity for a performance that had great potential.

Eldritch "stole" the name Sisterhood from Hussys Band, after the Sisters Of Mercy desolved in conflicts. To secure the name "Sisterhood" offically, Eldritch published within 5 days the album "GIFT" (german for POISON) and deserved 25,000 britsh pounds from the Record Company.

The Sisterhood was the name adopted by the Sisters fan following, Eldritch thought the name sounded too close a band name to that of the SOM and by releasing Giving Ground Eldritch was able to ensure that Hussey and Co couldn't use the name and he was also able to collect 25K in publishing rights. Another smart move was to use James Ray as main vocalist who sounds like Eldritch, he wasn't allowed to use his own vocals as it would have been in breach of his recording contract with WEA.

You cannot steal something that does not belong to someone else.

Hussey was trying to trade on his status as a Sisters of Mercy member, and being instrumental in the success of the only official Sisters album.

At the time Hussey joined the band, he was known (barely) for playing with Dead or Alive.

Whereas Eldritch and Marx were having their singles played on Peel Sessions in 1982.
