i was not val venus biggest fan but i respect the hell out of the guy for lying in the middle of the ring at fully loaded 2000 and taking a rikishi splash from the top of the cage he showed true balls of steel.
@Romulus123 Well, that could be just dropping muscle. Look at how skinny Kurt Angle is now, him being one I don't believe was on steroids. Either way, I honestly don't care if someone took them or not in any sport, I just want to be entertained.
Every year after 30 years of age your ability to build and maintain muscle mass decreases. Just because guys who used to be really big or cut lose their definition or mass later in life doesn't mean they were ever on roids. It's the ones who still look dynamite n their 40s who are probably roiding up.
That's true. However, he was jacked to bits in 2000 and there's really no way you can maintain that physique with a travel schedule like the WWF. The majority of guys were using all sorts of drugs. Steriods, HGH and pain pills. That was the live of a WWF superstar.
It's a LOT calmer now that the whole wellness policy seems to be firmly in place (although there's obviously loopholes if you're and main eventer and earning big money).
He was in his mid 20s when he started wwf, it is possible to maintain a mean as physique at that age if you eat right and have access to a gym wherever you go, which of course wwe superstars do. They can use any Gold's gym anywhere in the US for free so even on the road there are places to work out. I'm not denying that steroids or HGH weren't rampant back then but it doesn't mean they were all on them.
Val could have been a main eventer. THE Godfather, too. Both Intercontinental Champs, but because of Smacdown, and Lame ASS parents bitching about the stuff being said on Smackdown (You could get away with certain things on RAW, but Smackdown was a different story because of the channel it was on) they both got turned into the FAIL known as RIght to Censor. Also, poor Stevie Richards. That was probably his most notable gimmick in WWE.
I remember the porn star vignettes Val had before debuting. Its a shame he was reduced to jobbing from 2005 all the way till he quit, that was when Yawn Cena started main eventing
this whole gimmick was very sexy and definitely sold . he's right the attitude era was a time when sex wrestling violence controversy and cussing was not only encouraged but allowed. fuck todays wrestling not tna wwe cause in wwe thats a bad word. the atttiude era will live forever the pg era can go fuck off haha. suck that linda.
It's amazing that mid card wrestlers in the Attitude Era like Val were putting on better displays in the ring than most of the talent head lining shows now days. It really shows how great wrestling once was, and how sad it has come to be. I feel almost betrayed in that I was offered a product that was so amazing ONLY because it was being threatened by wCw and that now, with no competition, WWE has subjected itself to a pg rating and has really bad booking and story lines. I miss the Attitude Era
PG has ALWAYS been the main rating of the WWF until 2000 maybe. So you guys are actually telling me Attitude era is the right way to go? And PLEASE don't tell me yeah without explaining why because I looked at a 1987 and 1999 rating *good friend* and the ratings in '87 was higher than in '99. Explain to me why Attitude era was better than Pg era? I enjoyed PG era and HATED the attitude era and so did the WCW fans
@tonshaad1230 what do you mean PG was the main rating until 2000? the business got more adult-oriented around 1997, and the rating wasnt lifted until just recently. the PG rating has just started again from the last year or so.
and please, you say that the attitude era wasn't better than the PG era and that you hated it along with the WCW fans? lol its too bad the WCW fans were lower in number when it was all said and done eh
No your mixed it. Movies were getting adult-oriented around 1997. WCW fans *those true WCW fans* hated it. if so why did they come to WCW when it was attitude era? 3 things : NWO, Cruiserweights, mid-carders. WWF didn't have that, using the 80's storylines but only rauncher like wtf?
@tonshaad1230 hmmm well.you're an ignorant.& last time I checkd the WWF Attitude Era put WCW out of business. =] so its OKAAAAY to say it sucks, we understand your anger.
lol @ that Attitude era was hardly one of the reasons why WCW went out of business. It was poor management, 40.5.0 billion dollar contracts, people who didn't know what they were doing was given power. NOT the Attitude era OR Austin.
@tonshaad1230 That may be the case I wont argue that. I started watching wrestling because of Bill Goldberg in WCW. My brother told me about him and I got sucked into wrestling. I would watch WWF but my heart at the time was for WCW, however once the McMahon/Austin feud started I almost completely stopped watching WCW. Then they did the "finger poke of doom" and stopped all together. So for me, it had to do with both poor writing/management and Austin's rise to fame.
@tonshaad1230: WRONG. During the 8-9 CT "RAW is WAR" portion, yes, things were PG, but back then, standards were more lax than they are nowadays. When "The Warzone" portion aired from 9pm-10 pm CT, the ratings spiked to TV-14, with DX showing their slongs, women in the crowd flashing the cameras, the divas leaving nothing to the imagination, Foley being a crazy bastard, et al.
He was great, they never should've cut his hair, & made him join Right to Censor, I would love to still see Val come out & do his "Hello Ladies" promos before the match starts, that was always entertaining, & downright funny.
Does anyone know who Vic Venus is? I seen him wrestle an indy show in canada using the same gimmick and tights as val only he had about an extra 60 pounds of body fat. I thought Val had just gained weight :/
yeah really. do you remember the pole where they asked who would you want to be wwe champion and Venis won it by a landslide? Shouldnt that right there show the wwe that the fans want to see that guy become a maincard wrestler. He had such and awesome character. I hope he comes back.
as well as Stone Cold Steve Austin ,The Rock, Mick Foley as Mankind,The Montreal screw Job and most ppl 4get but When ECW crashed a Live taping of RAW,that was unheard of at the time,a company crossing over with another company & if u watch the footage its Savio Vega vs Bradshaw & Sandman comes out of the audience & spits beer in savios face .Even how the ECW ppl looked and acted it was so diff from wwf it was so poweful they brought a new ATTITUDE 2 the childish wwf atmosphere.Change had come.
Wrestlemania XIV was the beginning of the attitude era. The Austin Era is the attitude era, just that night was Austins night, so they called it the Austin era, it ended at Wrestlemania X-Seven, when he joined Mcmahon to beat The Rock.
