I just bought my new powerhouse gaming laptop back in late April; dual Centrino 2 2.27GHz w/ 4Gb DDR3 and GeForce 9800M GTS 1Gb and the rest; looks like I bought just in time! There haven't been any large "oh crap!, I just bought 2 months too early!" moments, and the starting next-gen DX11 technology is looking sweet.

It'll be great once this laptop is my last model, and how sweet mobile gaming will be up to then!

I've used 2600 Pro, x1650, 3200 IGP, 4770, 4850, 5850 etc. with Ubuntu in the past, ATI cards have always been fine in linux for me :O

Really? That sounds great because the new Asus G73 is coming with the new ATI Mobility HD5870 and a Core i7 so this makes it very appealing to me. If not, I would have no choice but to wait for a decent nVidia package which sucks... kinda like the new Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q880. But the graphics card they use can't compare to the ATI in the G73. If ATI is not well supported in Linux I would have no choice but to get the Toshiba.

Hahaha! Apple earns much money from its PCs' so why should they put those expensive things and the price goes much higher? They use Core 2 Duo and 9400 GT 256MB! And it costs about $2000! Yes but Apple computers last a lot longer and are less of a hassle. ONLY really need them if you are an inexperienced PC user. If you are skilled and know how to keep the PC clean and like new then PCs are a better choice. But Apple is and will be one of the best companies for a while although they have pretty expensive products.

I wouldn't say Apple computers are more reliable than PC OEM machines from Dell, Acer etc.

There were some stats put out not too long ago that put Apple below some PC OEM's for reliability, probably find it with a quick Google :)

@ BlueBajs: Thats a bit harsh but I see your point but having better graphics in your Notebook is good not just for gaming it will help things like HD Video playback and any program that can offload to the GPU but any one that buys a notebook just for gaming is a sucker as it will be of outdate so fast

Plus, the Mobile 5870 is probably faster than Nvidia's mobile GPU's in DX10.1 and DX10 anyway :)
