He used to be nice boy, he used to cut the grass. He was a very nice boy. I have children SLEEPING in here. turn that down! Dont you boys know any *nice* songs? Swat team 4 move in...
I thank God, YouTube, and Timmo1782 for leaving me in a 'wow' state after listening to this track. I'm really enjoying it and speechless after listening to it. F.Zappa is one of a kind. He and his band define those depths of music where only the strong at heart can survive/excel.
I think this is the live performance that became "He Used to Cut the Grass." It's funny how on this Frank channels some really old, nasty blues guitar playing, like T-Bone Walker, where T-Bone wanted the guitar to sound as raw and abrasive as possible. He definitely stayed true to his roots.
@DouglasWatts That is correct regarding the "He used to cut the grass". He has quite a few different names for it apparently, several versions out there. A lot of the guitar tracks including the one you mentioned from Joe's Garage were taken from live performances and overdubbed with new backing in odd time signatures that he wrote out for the band in the studio. I can't think of which album but the original "He Used to Cut the Grass" live performance can be found.
His music always gives me a warm feeling. like a big cucoon wrapped around me made of fluffy silk. who knows why? old lamps and red lights lots of red lights :)
This one was done as an intro to the concert, but later he made it the guitar solo for a later version of Easy Meat and eventually The 3rd Movement of Sinister Footwear

fucking oath!!!..''.shut up n' play yer guitars'' primary rhythm section..who could argue?..its proly one of his most defining records..if thats possible?
At 1:24 - 2:00 sounds as if Steve Vai may have pulled a little bit of Franks riffs and put a bit of it in his song, "I know you are here". Check it out, I think you guys may agree. Not saying it's exact but, very similar.
I think the shot before the last one could be from Stonybrook long Island. I saw him there and he had the same shirt on. But maybe he just had the same shirt on. I'm pretty sure it was'nt a rubber shirt! see The Merry Franksterz on youtube
A person that is not welcome, i.e., not recognized. In diplomatic instances, it usually means expulsion, as well. As far as FZ goes, it is just a title for one of his instrumental vamps/constructions over which he improvised. And this is a good one...
now listen to steve vai's Steve Vai - Rescue Me Or Bury Me - 2003
I wonder where Vai got his inspiration ?!?!

remember that "persona non grata" is an italian phrase
ownall 3 years ago
actually the right italian for "unwanted person" is "persona non gradita". "persona non grata" means "ungrateful person"
cesena87 2 years ago
Wrong. "Persona non grata" is latin (lingua latina) and means the same thing as "persona non gradita" in italian.
Twinphreex 2 years ago 3
I see, did not realize it was latin, I'm italian but don't speak it

What does it mean "persona non Grata"? Is it the title of a FZ's song?
passacaglia57 3 years ago
A person that is not welcome, i.e., not recognized. In diplomatic instances, it usually means expulsion, as well. As far as FZ goes, it is just a title for one of his instrumental vamps/constructions over which he improvised. And this is a good one...

Is this on any album that anyone knows of? Terrific solo - again.............!
strav12 3 years ago
Persona non Grata means "A unwelcome Person,"
mainly used in politics. Don't forget that Frank Zappa was a cultural attaché in Hungary.
