Having lived in Japan a third of my life it's good to see someone take the cefiro platform and do something fantastic with it. Not many people know about the Laurel and Cefiros of the 90's with their more luxury bodies and RB engines. They were great cars. Good going on the AWD too. Haters will always be around. I find most of them don't even have the cash to do what they are hating on and that's the problem. I'm looking forward to seeing this thing drive. Cheers!
Nice Cefiro, does it run alright after all modification you've done? cus sometime when you do big mods on a car, youll find some problem after...anyway im swaping my cefiro to a rb26dett, i got the front halfcut coming with the rb26dett, but i dont know which Diff i should have for the engine, im planing to have around 500HP and drive it as everyday car, maybe 3times a week. so any idea which Diff i shoud have?? any sugestion?
@MJRPerformance from what I read the A31rwd and s13 uses a strut to hold the spindle vs the GTR uses an upper A arm. I would like to be sure about the AWD A31 when I look at the Strut tower it suggest that it uses the Upper A arm like the GTR and Z32 but the few A31 rwds I've seen were like the S13 and from what I know even use the same struts and parts.
Do you know exactly whats what or could you even just take a picture of the front suspension.
I didn't. The owner did. That engine is almost 10 years old (daily driver). Took it out of his old car and put it in this one. FRAM seems to be working for him.
@MJRPerformance But still in driving a cefiro is for the trill of driving, to me thats why the car has so much fans(don't know about your country). And putting it AWD just sucks the fun out of it.
Tell that to my weight mod crew(ME and couple of buddies), don't have a A31 cefiro but soon will. But as you said I'm more of a drifter, but still most of the RWD cefiro's I have seen kicks ass, given the wright driver and mods. I will still have to mod that weight ratio before I drift an inch, that is if don't want to F my car up and spin out in to a loosing streak.
@MJRPerformance I can see where your coming from. Im a drifter so i like rwd, and for circut i would take awd but for drag i would take rwd over awd because it takes a special amount of skill to launch an awd without breaking everything. a good tuner can get the right traction by tuning the suspention. dont get me wrong, I love the car youve built. you just went down the wrong path in your quest for traction. theres a reason subaru's dont drag race
yeh maybe for you but I'm still not a AWD fan, I like having to work to control your car, I prefer circuit racing, and I would still put a 700hp RWD cefiro against a 700hp AWD cefiro and put my money in the RWD (given I'm Driving).
In most cases it is preference but most cars require either one example the subaru impreza i'm sure it would suck even more with RWD, but I to would take a 700hp no questions. Maybe I would just take the engine alone .....lol
U don't Know what ur talking about this is racing, AWD only really kicks in on the corners when car weight shifts other than that ther are only two main power wheel which by the way won't recive as much power as a RWD. AWD is mainly for more traction so u can take faster corners and for off roaders.
Also about 15% of Engine powers is lossed just moving the Drivetrain in AWD while RWD only suffers 7%.
AWD may work for u but if u want to win RWD is the right choice.
@ebadavey Because it's his car. When you (speaking in general) have an idea and want to make it happen you do what you want to do to make it come to life. As for the awd, it's good because most times RB powered rear wheel drive cars have alot of tailspin beause of the torque and the light body (gts t's and so on). With AWD the wheels will catch before that happens. Makes sense? I'd like to see a video of your car.
Didn't I say mine is in the making and by that I mean I don't have one yet but will soon. And it definately won't be a crapy AWD. I will admit AWD has its advantages but when it comes racing (real racing not just drags) AWD is out classed. I will never go to AWD EVER !!!!!!
You say RWD spin out too much Learn to drive won't u, I expect that from a throttle monkey like your self, whose philosophy is to FLOOR IT!!!!
Quick question: when you do engine swap from RB20 to RB26DETT like you do, do you need to swap it to AWD or can you keep it RWD?? Need some quick answer here..deciding to put RB26DETT or RB25 on my cefiro thanks...oh and its for drifting only
@G4rsp33d this cefiro is 4wd so he will have prob kept the 4wd sump on the rb26dett and changed his rear diff to a gtr one (or chaged the sump/front diff to the same ratio as what he has in the back). You can fit a rwd sump to a rb26dett but you need change the oil pickup. A better way to do it is cut the sump off the gtr sump and get a good aluminum weilder to weild it up, the 4wd sumps have a little extra oil capacity and are cast aluminum instead of pressed steel like the rwd ones
oh man this is so fukn sick a cefi with a 26 wtf that is so fukn nice mate gc for repn the rb's and peacebomber8 ur crazy hav u ever been in a cefi ther not just a car ther an experience mate sort it out ae
@peacebomber8 This car was made for this engine. It's the exact same platform as the R32 GT-R. I'll be posting onboard video to 316 km/hr sometime next week, or the week after. Stay tuned.
The NA31 Cefiro shares the same frame, sub frames, floor, suspension mount points, hubs, aprons, etc, with the R32 GT-R. It's completely different from the standard Cefiro. The GT-R engine, transmission and everything bolt it with zero modification. 32 GT-R suspension, tension rods, etc, bolt in with zero modification. GT-R brakes, brake lines, etc, zero modification. The NA31 Cefiro is a 4-door GT-R. 32 GT-R, GTS-4, NA31 Cefiro are all built on the same platform.
@The88RS Needs some ATTESA control. The stock split isn't sending enough to the front wheels and it's pretty squirily through third gear. It's F-ing hard to find them in Japan, as well.
@sidewayznut2009 The hubs are the same aluminum ones as the R32GTR. Same goes for the suspension. No mods required to change to five lug, just have to change the spindle.
Notice there's no plates. This was pre-inspection. When leagalizing engine swaps and what not in Japan, you want to keep as much stuff as you can stock. Less to look at. This car uses the same suspension as R32 GT-R and it's now been changed.
Brakes have been upgraded to R33 GT-R brakes. However, because the stock brakes also have enough grip to engage the ABS, the larger brakes won't make it stop any quicker. They just won't fade as much during multiple hard stops.
Action video is coming as soon as I get some time to edit. "Proof of the AWNness"? While watching the video, pay attention to the front hubs where the front axles are clearly visible.
A stock RB26 with increased boost and OEM Nismo turbos will make 450hp. On this engine... N1 block and 33 crank, Pauter billet rods, Arias pistons, Tomei HG, Nismo oil pump, chamber and port work, HKS 272 cams and springs, 70mm MP turbo @ 1.8 kg boost, Denso 720cc injectors @ 95% duty and 11.5 AFR, SDS management, HKS tripple plate clutch, Quaife six-speed dog box....
Now that's just an ignorant comment. My personal daily driver is a pro street '83 Chevy C10 with a 9", 33-18-15 rear tires and a twin turbo 383. WIthout knowing anything about you, I'd venture a guess that I know a little more than you about the rice vs. domestic pro's and con's... People who know the deal laugh at the import/domestic argument.
Just because a performance shop does two cars the same does not make it standard....
But, there were AWD versions of cefiro (similar to the R32 GTS-4). They use the same drive train as an AWD R32, you can tell this was an original AWD cefiro because of the front strut towers have 2 bolts in the top. A regular (RWD) cefiro uses S13 suspension in the front (the strut tops have 3 bolts).
