As my great uncle told me "you can look at a picture of us and see who whacked who." I asked but obviously, he never told me the details, but you can see it in the Sopranos. I have all seasons and this is a perfect example.
The sopranos is funny, and most of the episodes hold the same view value. Not to talk about the acting and the plot, but somehow the wire is more raw and dark. The death of adriana, christopher and vito might play in the same division, but then again watch the scene where proposition joe gets executed. Anyway i do think that sopranos is the better one while the wire is a more fucked up show. "fat bald guys pulling the strings" against "12 yr old kids dropping of dope and killing each other"
I watched the sopranos after the wire, and they are both brilliant, i might like the wire a bit more but i think they were both excellant in differing ways, the sopranos was better at the character development of those main characters of tony, chris, paulie, etc and gandolfinis performance is better than anything in the wire. However i think the wire did a better job of doing a gritty realism thing but also being entertaining at the same time, sometimes the sopranos was just not interestin enouh
@landondonovanify I really liked The Wire as well but it all comes down to the writing and the acting and to me some of the scenes in the Sopranos with Tony and Carmela were some of the best in television history. The Wire was great don't get me wrong but I never seen anything in The Wire to compare to the Sopranos. If I had to give each show a grade I would give The Sopranos a 10 and The Wire a 9 both are VERY good but The Sopranos wins by Christopher Moltisanti's nose!
I'd pay to know the other names of the "fictional" guys on this board...I know that they are just random names and pics but...dunno...I'd just love to know more.
Skyhigh, what are you, 12 years old? I love how all these suburban rich kids think they are the "criminal element" and hard because they listen to some shitty ass rap music and watch shows like oz or the wire.
the wire the sopranos and oz are all top three tv shows and you can watch one and think it's the best you've seen only to watch the other and think the same, hbo has had tv on lock forever and deserves credit for bank rolling the series. tbh id just rank them 1. A) B) C) and the rest of TV.
@KoldKillaMr It's just that the show didn't do a great job of selling itself, so its fans feel a need to sell it. I never wanted to watch it either and I was never sure why. The only reason I finally did is because someone re-gifted the whole series to me, and I had always heard people put it up there with the sopranos. It is more like a really long, epic novel then a tv show. A lot of people won't like "the wire" but it seems like most people who liked "the sopranos" will like "the wire"
@KoldKillaMr Essentially it is the slow-burn nature of it all. It feels like reality, or at least as close to reality as you can get in a TV show. As you'd expect from an HBO drama there is no "good characters" really, everybody is a human being, flawed in some way or another. If you like the subtle moments in The Sopranos like the one in this vid then you really should dig The Wire. Will you like it more? I can't say, I love them both equally!
6 months ago I would have told anyone that "The Soprano's" was by far the best series in the history of television. However, since then I watched "The Wire" and now it's a tougher call, because "The Wire" is VERY good (It takes a while to hit its stride so commit to watching more then just the first episode). But seriously, the wire shocked me at how deep and profound it could be, without being the least bit pretentious. Both shows are masterful achievements. Thank god for HBO
What an absolutely brilliant scene. So much is said with no words at all, and it's subtlety is its genius. That shot at the end showing Uncle Junior above Tony on the Fed's priority list doesn't have any flamboyance or anything to overstate it's message, but it successfully makes it completely clear: the feds have taken the bait, and Tony's plan was a complete success. David Chase really is something else.
Why do we even have to compare them? Both ("The Sopranos" and "The Wire") are two of the greatest shows--actually, dramatic works--in the history of drama. After seeing each series' the first time through, you can literally revisit any episode and it's like you're visiting an old friend. "Oz" lacks the recognition that the former two have gotten, but it's just as great, and people forget that it started it all. HBO revolutionized television. Everybody has their favorites, but they're ALL GREAT
Screenwriting and drama in Sopranos and Wire are both great; but Sopranos is definitely better at using cinematic language. How come no one ever mentions The Oz anyway; it was better than The Wire...
The story-lines, character developments and plot twists were EXCELLENT IN 'OZ'......ur right we hardly ever mention 'OZ' and yet it was and still is!!!!!! one of THE BEST TV SHOWS EVER MADE!!!!!!!! It is MY NUMBER-1 favourite show ever! anyway Thanks for mentioning Oz!........
For some reason I couldn't get into the Wire...I watched the 1st ep, but still couldn't get into it.....alot of people I know say that.......but with OZ and The Sopranos......I was hooked from Ep-1.........
the wire is incredible. sopranos too. check out the wire if you haven't. it tells the story of urban america. lays it all down for you. in terms of making a grand statement, it surpasses sopranos although sopranos makes a grand statement about america's decline as well.
This clip has been edited, you don't hear the characters speak in this clip and there's a focus on a picture of Big Pussy at the FBI Headquarters which isn't in this clip.....??
This is a good ending but the best was at the end of the" walk like a man" episode when Chris staggers up his driveway drunk and replants that little tree.Sort of symbolic of giving something else another chance in life which he did not have. The los Lobos song" in the valley" was haunting at the end of that episode

@JonathanJonasson And why not? I don't remember from the series, but at least by the translation and literature, they are used with the same meaning. From this clip, boss would be "capo dei capi" or "capo famiglia" and capo would be the abbreviation for "capo bastone" or "caporegime". You can read and maybe think it is confused with a lot of capos, but that would be the most approximate to what it means.
@JonathanJonasson Aha! That is the mess. Capo(regime) = captain. Capo(regimes) are under the boss (Capo di famiglia). In the end, capo is capo and vice versa.

@11sabonis11 Sopranos is my favourite series....but in a lot ways The Wire is far more sophisticated. 'Not even close?'. Yeah thats a crock of shit, they are better than each other in many ways, and are way too different to just couch The Wire as 'not even close'.
@Ozziguy6 Exactly. Those of us who are fans of both shows know the deal. The Wire was severely underrated during its run. The fact that it never won any major awards is a joke.
@11sabonis11 yes u r right. the sopranos are not even in the same league as the wire is. Sopranos offers personal, subjective view of criminal life when the wire offers more objective look on the world of crime...
@thestranger4812 The Sopranos is a lot better but maybe it is because I'm Italian and hate watching the shitty Wire with these goons and woogy-boogeys.
@11sabonis11 I loved Sopranos a lot but any objective person would recognize the genious and superiority of the Wire, it's a critic of the consuming society with all its branches ! it's way better than Sopranos !
I love the OH SHIT moment when the camera pans out from the board with all the photos to show an entire room of cops working to throw them all in jail.
All these people talking about the Wire don't know shit. I seen the first series and it wasn't that great, due to it's overwhelming smugness, and it should never be mentioned in the same sentence as the Sopranos. And neither can Mad Men or the next fad that comes along. If anything The wire stole (or at least got the balls) to do a more ambiguous and long term narrative style from the sopranos. The characters are also boring as fuck in comparison.
It's the instrumental version of Paparazzi by Xzibit. In this video it has just been put in on top of the videoclip itself, but the same song was playing in the actual scene.
ye the show is ok, but it's amazing how many retarded chmps look up to these lot as respectable people, they are the biggest fucking scumbags EVER, at least people like al qaeda do it cos of personal beliefs. these lot would pimp their own mums fanny for a quick buck
Was Johnny Boy Soprano a capo or was he a boss, or what? The flashback of him and Junior in the butcher shop make me think he was more like a boss than a capo.
only they could make a better ending to the series. all the capos died sept of larry barese. on the FBI board everyone on that list has died or jailed. or something has happened to them in some extent.
Uncle Junior seems to be looking down at Tony in a way that says that Junior needs to watch out for Tony. This was a stroke of genius from the producers
drivebyblvd UR A FAKKKIN LEGEND DIS ENDING IS SOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL UR A LEGEND FOR PUTTING THIS UP AND HOW U NAMED IT PERFECT EXACTLEY WHAT I WAS FINKING
@acountddd (THIS GOES TO EVERYONE HERE) not to be rude, but this is a sopranos video who the fuck cares about the wire here? go to a "the wire" video if you feel the need to talk about it, but if you feel the need to talk about other shows go ahead i guess but its irrelevant.
@mahavishnuxc I came here to watch The Sopranos. I didn't bring up The Wire nor did I expect The Wire to be mentioned but if you diss The Wire from your misconceived notions I'll defend it. if you diss The Sopranos I'll defend it. You were talking about The Wire, not me, or else I wouldn't have even mentioned it.
@acountddd i didnt diss anything. and you missed my point, i just said i dont like the wire, by no means is it a bad show it has gotten much critical acclaim and praise, but not like the sopranos. me, i couldnt get into the wire i dont know why. for instance, my two favorite shows are "the sopranos" and "seinfeld" both considered classics, i know a guy who hates both shows especially seinfeld. the wire is a great show from what i hear, but i just coudlnt get into it
@acountddd also the part about irrelevant comments was not directed towards its just something that is, well true. its the sopranos, the wire comments have no business but people try to compare them. i can see why they have some similarities. i was talking about the wire because other people were talking about it. we are involved in this conversations for the same reasons i guess.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm not even gonna lie this show is crap, maybe I'm not "deep" enough to understand but I'm tired of hearing about these guys on Xzibit's songs about some mediocre-at-best feel good sitcom.
@XBlackRose023X Maybe you should get your viewing recommendations from somewhere other than Xzibit. I live and bleed hiphop, but I am tired of seeing and hearing everything I have ever seen in any number of gangster flicks in hiphop songs/videos. Maybe Jay-Z could walk like Verbal Kent and that other knucklehead could drive around the streets backwards like Sonny in a Bronx Tale a little more. I could keep going on and on. Sopranos was almost as good as the Wire.
@MYSTIKALmonkey almost? the wire doesnt even come close to licking the sopranos' cunt hair. and thats not me saying it, but the whole fucking world media and television/film critics.
@mahavishnuxc Sounds to me like it is just you...I prefer The Wire just a cunt hair more than Sopranos...that's how close it is. Sorry, but I read an equal amount of critics praising both shows, and never have I seen praise for one more than the other. I guess that's how these two shows are...phenomenally crafted! I guess I am not in tune with the whole fucking world like you. Congratulations!
@MYSTIKALmonkey i dont know ive seen a few episodes and it wasnt for me and i havent heard many good things about the wire, i hear its not that great or overrated. thats why i commented it. ive heard alot of praise on the sopranos though that was my comment. maybe if i really watched it id probably like it or not but whatever.
@mahavishnuxc What? The Wire is widely regarded by critics as one of the best series ever created so I really don't know what "world media critics" you're referring to.
I love both shows but I really hate people who suck on Sopranos dick and just piss on every other great show out there without having invested in them. That's being a fanboy and fanboys are the worst people to try and have a discussion with.
@acountddd no dude you didnt get it. go to wikepedia, or entertainment weekly shit like that they praise the show because it was a good show, no denying it. the acting, the writing (especially), the directing. as an aspiring filmmaker and writer it was a major influence and i have the box set and watch it from 1-6. im not denying the wire is a good show, it has gotten critical acclaim as well. BUT IN MY OPINION, the sopranos is better, i couldnt get into the wire i dont know why, i just didnt.
i had no idea till properly looking at it that pussy was just a soldier i always figured he was capo just weird to think he was on the same level as mikey and jimmy was higher up
I just watched this episode (Pax Soprana) and there's a different music in this final scene... How is that so? I think that this music is million times better....
@Mrster Well I watched it at megavideo, I was pretty dissapointed... And in first episode there was a different music too, in that scene where Tony and Chris are chasing that gambler who owes Tony money....
@Mikey20TR Actually in the suggestions section, you'll find a video titled "Junior Soprano new boss" the song appears exactly like that in the original series. You probably watched an edited version.
@RESISTING1 Yeah I know, but look for "The Sopranos - Pax Soprano Ending" that's the version I'm talking about. After I red the comments I'm not sure myself which version is original and which is edited....

@headcrusher13
It's the instrumental version of Paparazzi by Xzibit. In this video it has just been put in on top of the videoclip itself, but the same song was playing in the actual scene.

This is definitely one of the best episode endings. Thanks for positing it! The Sopranos is the best show ever.

Uncle Junior seems to be looking down at Tony in a way that says that Junior needs to watch out for Tony. This was a stroke of genius from the producers

acountddd 1 year ago
@acountddd (THIS GOES TO EVERYONE HERE) not to be rude, but this is a sopranos video who the fuck cares about the wire here? go to a "the wire" video if you feel the need to talk about it, but if you feel the need to talk about other shows go ahead i guess but its irrelevant.
mahavishnuxc 1 year ago
@mahavishnuxc I came here to watch The Sopranos. I didn't bring up The Wire nor did I expect The Wire to be mentioned but if you diss The Wire from your misconceived notions I'll defend it. if you diss The Sopranos I'll defend it. You were talking about The Wire, not me, or else I wouldn't have even mentioned it.
acountddd 1 year ago
@acountddd i didnt diss anything. and you missed my point, i just said i dont like the wire, by no means is it a bad show it has gotten much critical acclaim and praise, but not like the sopranos. me, i couldnt get into the wire i dont know why. for instance, my two favorite shows are "the sopranos" and "seinfeld" both considered classics, i know a guy who hates both shows especially seinfeld. the wire is a great show from what i hear, but i just coudlnt get into it
mahavishnuxc 1 year ago
@acountddd also the part about irrelevant comments was not directed towards its just something that is, well true. its the sopranos, the wire comments have no business but people try to compare them. i can see why they have some similarities. i was talking about the wire because other people were talking about it. we are involved in this conversations for the same reasons i guess.

I'm not even gonna lie this show is crap, maybe I'm not "deep" enough to understand but I'm tired of hearing about these guys on Xzibit's songs about some mediocre-at-best feel good sitcom.
XBlackRose023X 1 year ago
@XBlackRose023X Maybe you should get your viewing recommendations from somewhere other than Xzibit. I live and bleed hiphop, but I am tired of seeing and hearing everything I have ever seen in any number of gangster flicks in hiphop songs/videos. Maybe Jay-Z could walk like Verbal Kent and that other knucklehead could drive around the streets backwards like Sonny in a Bronx Tale a little more. I could keep going on and on. Sopranos was almost as good as the Wire.
MYSTIKALmonkey 1 year ago
@MYSTIKALmonkey almost? the wire doesnt even come close to licking the sopranos' cunt hair. and thats not me saying it, but the whole fucking world media and television/film critics.
mahavishnuxc 1 year ago
@mahavishnuxc Sounds to me like it is just you...I prefer The Wire just a cunt hair more than Sopranos...that's how close it is. Sorry, but I read an equal amount of critics praising both shows, and never have I seen praise for one more than the other. I guess that's how these two shows are...phenomenally crafted! I guess I am not in tune with the whole fucking world like you. Congratulations!
MYSTIKALmonkey 1 year ago
@MYSTIKALmonkey i dont know ive seen a few episodes and it wasnt for me and i havent heard many good things about the wire, i hear its not that great or overrated. thats why i commented it. ive heard alot of praise on the sopranos though that was my comment. maybe if i really watched it id probably like it or not but whatever.
mahavishnuxc 1 year ago
@mahavishnuxc What? The Wire is widely regarded by critics as one of the best series ever created so I really don't know what "world media critics" you're referring to.
I love both shows but I really hate people who suck on Sopranos dick and just piss on every other great show out there without having invested in them. That's being a fanboy and fanboys are the worst people to try and have a discussion with.
acountddd 1 year ago
@acountddd no dude you didnt get it. go to wikepedia, or entertainment weekly shit like that they praise the show because it was a good show, no denying it. the acting, the writing (especially), the directing. as an aspiring filmmaker and writer it was a major influence and i have the box set and watch it from 1-6. im not denying the wire is a good show, it has gotten critical acclaim as well. BUT IN MY OPINION, the sopranos is better, i couldnt get into the wire i dont know why, i just didnt.
mahavishnuxc 1 year ago
@XBlackRose023X
Did you just call Sopranos a sitcom? You're right. You really don't get it.

@Mrster Well I watched it at megavideo, I was pretty dissapointed... And in first episode there was a different music too, in that scene where Tony and Chris are chasing that gambler who owes Tony money....
Mikey20TR 9 months ago
@Mikey20TR Actually in the suggestions section, you'll find a video titled "Junior Soprano new boss" the song appears exactly like that in the original series. You probably watched an edited version.
RESISTING1 8 months ago
@RESISTING1 Yeah I know, but look for "The Sopranos - Pax Soprano Ending" that's the version I'm talking about. After I red the comments I'm not sure myself which version is original and which is edited....
