Another tip for servers, if two people are sitting on one side of a booth or table, you give the person furthest away his or her food first whether it is a lady or man. (If the lady's closest to you and you give her her food first, you then have to reach over her food to give the man his, which is rude.
Hey, I'm a waiter (not proud of it, but I always take pride in my work)... and I don't ALWAYS serve the food to the woman first (though I do take her order first as habit). In modern times, does anybody really care? I would genuinely like to know so that I can become better at my job.
i just began waitering at an All u can eat restaurant. What is an appropriate reply to customers when they 'thank you' for the foods brought? I usually say 'no problem' but it might sound rude for them. also i bring out plate after plates and it sounds dumb repeating those same words.
Another reason to take the lady's order first, especially if they are an established couple and this is not a "date" is because in many cases, she will "correct" the mans order as you're taking it. Since you only want to take two orders for two people, with luck she'll finish giving her order and then proceed to order for the man. Faster and in the best interests of all.
serve people as if they were you family, serve 'em as you would want to get served don't try to act like a perfect server always show manners "ladies first " at all times, always make eye contact and try to keep 'em busy the whole time, they should be ether eating or drinking, do not leave 'em just looking around with no drink on the table ...
neone can be a server if there only watching 3-5 tables at a time, try watching 10 - 15 at a time lol, ive seen ppl break down and cry, high class waiters have the most etiquette, and ones from diners n such have the most stress endurance haha
never ask if there is anything that you can get for them.... and the work "I" should never be said as a serveer because there is no you as a server it is them... Everything is would you care for..... or would there be anything else ... everything is revolved around the dinners nothing to do with you!!!!
@HitaroX Ya sorry about my English it is pretty pathetic... it was late and i was a bit tipsy. The fact that you can only attack my English and not give any input or have any comment about the matter makes you a fool.
Uhhm..please stop the repetitive posting, please. I don't think either of you are wrong or right, because I wouldn't know how to be a waiter...not yet, anyway.
Its got nothing to do with lazyness. You cant be a waiter and be lazy. You wouldnt last. Im I repeating myself here.
Its 100% clear that I do the best I can throughout my shift. First to last table.
I make mistakes all the time, and most people dont care if I fix it.
You dont care though, you think that I'm clearly a mental reject, and anyone can do my job. Yet your experince consists of refilling some cop's coffee at some shop, and dining at applebees on the weekend.
Thats elementary knowledge for a waiter. Everyone knows to write down things so you remeber them. Do you really think you have discovered the secret to waiter success?
"Of course not, because I don't watch golf, however, I DO RECEIVE service from servers and see how some of them are so stupid bringing out wrong food and waiting over 15 minutes to get you a coke, because a mixed drink was ordered instead of thinking about THIRST(COMMON SENSE)!! "
Even if you did watch golf you wouldnt know more about it than a pro golfer though, even a bad pro. Its called an example, its used to make a point, even if it doesnt apply to you, thats irrelevent.
"My husband and I have been eating out 2-3 times just about every weekend almost since Nov. 2000."
hate to break it to ya, but you've probably ate a whole lot of spit.
I've watched Tiger play a lot, doesnt mean I could do it myself.
Its not apple's and oranges. Its pro and. pro. Yes there are a lot of servers, there are a lot of golfers too. Neither require school, and most of them suck, in both fields, you still wouldnt go to a pro golfer and tell them how to play
Springs131 "ANY SERVERS all across the country that will be able to do this job. You are an IDIOT!! ANYONE can be a server. NOT EVERYONE can play golf, DUMBASS!!"
You couldnt do it, your too stupid, I'll bet 100$ you dont make it through training
You know nothing about restaurants or serving and wouldnt last 10 min on the floor of a Dennys. Bet.
It's like me making a comment on Tiger Wood's golf swing, quite funny actually.
Your tip on your salad isnt going to make or break me, I sold 1300$ worth of food and drinks today, and averaged 22.36% tips, thank you very much. I probably forgot one or two things along the way, but that really is trivial. If I forgot your ranch I'm sorry, please come agian and I'll make it right. Really
And is the internet tough guy really gonna tell me about my attitude? Really, calling people names over the internet? Then giving me a lecture about caring?
With your attitude no wonder you often get shit service.
And tipping out a cook would be considered offensive, once again you prove that you are clueless.
You really dont know me so saying that I dont care about my customers is absurd. I take personnal pride in my work, which cant be said for 90% of people across the board at all jobs. I love my job. Can you say that about your job?
Its not about the money, the money is secondary and comes from doing a good job. I'm not prepared to risk quality service for all my guests to protect the intrest of one guest. Money is only relevent because its a byproduct of good service.
And yes by the way you should get an apology if someone messes up something, thats a given.
Any good server that sees someone is not eating because they dont have something should make getting you that something their #1 top priority of the 23 other things people need at that point in time.
just cut people a break, it might not be their fault, even if it is so what. Do things always go perfect at your job?
"I know I wouldnt rely on the cooks for tip for condiments"
the point is you dont know jack. the cooks give you the condiments, if they dont want to give you something your screwed, you've got to go find a manager (not an easy task trust me) and spend like 30 min all cause some dude was super picky, forget it.
You base your tip on condiments? OK, its absurd but thats your right. Eat your food, tip whatever you feel is right, and get up so some normal people can have the table
If you cant enjoy yourself because your ranch wasnt full to rim then you need medication of some sort, that really is something to speak with your shrink about.
You ruin the mood for everyone at the table making a fuss about something minor, everyone else with you is like "what a jerk"
theres an old saying about people who arent nice to people who serve them just arent nice in general. I've seen ladies just get up and leave when their date is rude to the service staff.
You cant make time, its not something that falls from the sky, if I spend too much time here then the next table has to wait too long to be greeted, then they tip poorly as well, and you fall behind and never catch back up. I just lost like 40$ making sure you have a full ranch, I'm not prepared to do that. I'd rather serve those people because they probably wont drop money from my tip for every little thing. Where as you will probably find something to complain about either way
If you'd really like to see perfect go to a 5 star restaurant. Trust me the guy there will write down your super picky order, get it perfect, then smile while another guy brings it out, and a third guy brings your condiments, god forbid they touch the plate before you pour them all over it. Just dont be shocked when you get the bill.
All I'm saying is give these people a break. Your ranch isnt full? Didnt get it? It was a mistake, you make them too, if they fix it then no harm done.
Its not cause they are lazy or dont care. I've been in the industry a long time, if you dont like people happy or dont like to work you'd be gone. Its like being a mechanic that doesnt like to get dirty.
Its a very hard job to serve tables, you're doing a million things at once, you really have no idea unless you've done it.
So chill, be understanding. You're there to have fun, not to anlyze the service and drop a dollar for everything that didnt go perfect. Especially when your no expert
The container your refer to is called a ramekin, and getting one of everything involves begging a cook for it and getting cussed out in Spanish for a while.
The cooks are there to control food cost, meanwhile your server is trying to get what ever the hell complicated ass combination of sides you'd like, causing a direct conflict of intrest.
Trust me as a server you dont want to piss off the cooks.
After getting chewed out by both sides you get a worse tip anyway and no one is happy.
Cooks portion the food, they wont give you more unless you ring it up, period.
But dont worry, your cheap, fat ass will get all the condiments you'd like, as long as you pay for them.
Unless its a fine dine type deal, servers are too busy to check the ticket. They have to take a lot of tables at one time to make money b/c ppl like you will find any excuse to tip shitty.
You've obviously never worked in a restaurant.
Tell the kitchen staff "please fill this container" lol is that a joke?
she does a good job, but I'm a server and I find that customers like their help to have personality and sense of humor, not dry asskissing..... sorry??
the dressing was spilling over...insted of "let me know if i can get you anything" and walking away mabey say can i get you any mustard or anything... or mention somthing you think they might need. idk im not the best but thanx for the videos :)

We serve tables 8 hours a day. Do you go out to eat 8 hours a day.
Plus we serve all kinds of people. Crazy people like you, and normal people. Personnally I cater to the normal people because most people are normal.
You only see the expirence for your self, not the big picture.
In the big picture you and your wants are irrelevent because you are a statistical outlier, way outside the norm of what normal people would like.
