  • thanks a lot

  • Great video thanks couldn't get VMWare tools to install till now :)

  • woow your awesome dude thanks i did like the video , and everything was perfect

  • good thanks man

  • one really quick question. I am running this on VMware Work Station bt5 gnome when I go to Install VMware Tools it doesn't bring up that file for me.? Do I need to download it and import it from some where.?

  • @infowaredm go in to places and open up the cd/dvd rom... I haven't used the gnome but i can make a video of it... But any who in linux aka bt you should be able to just go into the cd/dvd rom without a problem... If you still need help i don't mind making a video...

  • @curemymind ya no worries thanks for the reply back. i figured it out. there is the linux.iso inside the vmware 8 workstation folder that contains the bootable disc for vm ware tools

  • you entered root for login and what password you have to put?

  • @annonymous127 password is toor

  • @91lunmar that should do it... If you do have any problems loseing data i would check the MD5 of the Backtrack iso... But other then that i don't think you should have a problem with data loss.

  • @91lunmar I do not boot from .ISO... Just install it like you would in full HDD mode... the Vmware emulates a HDD for you... All you would have to do is click on the install script that is on the desktop and just follow the directions... Thats it... There is a lot of youtube videos on that subject its why i didn't make one...

  • I'm running 2.6.39.4 headers on B5 KDE how can I make it to match? How can I downgrade?

  • @CanecaProductions Yeah i kind of noticed this problem way too late from this video... You have to prep the headers... I should make a video of it soon... You can actually go to the BT website for this... it should be under comunity and wiki... and under custumization there should be a link for Preparing the kernal... which should be... "prepare-kernel-sources" "cd /usr/src/linux" "cp -rf include/generated/* include/linux/" without the quotes.. my bad

  • @CanecaProductions Nevermind, I just did :)

  • On the vmware-install it won't find the kernel path (/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38.8/include/), even when I can physically find it myself. Even tried dragging and dropping it in to the console. Am I missing a step? I've been able to create a persistent usb version and a dual boot of Backtrack, but VMware is giving me trouble. :\

  • @1337w33d

    /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38/include/ **

  • @1337w33d

I'm noticing my kernel-headers is 2.6.38.8 not 2.6.38. Is that the problem? I've tried entering that in as well, with the same result.

  • @1337w33d Yeah i kind of noticed this problem way too late from this video... You have to prep the headers... I should make a video of it soon... • @curemymind Ah I did miss a step, thanks for the assistance.

  • Thank you for this video it helped a lot.

  • great video, thank you very much for the time you deticated doing this vid

  • No worries man, I got it figured out., Just had to change the name of the directory for VM Server. I have since changed to VMware player. Either way your instructions where far better then others I followed only to completly fail and hose up my VM. Keep up the good work.

  • In Gnome you have to change the directory to /usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38 to /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.38

  • @MartyrMaker07 I should of coverd this but I should make a video on how to prepare kernel sources. It is on the BT website... I will make a video of it soon... which I should of done with this video but i compleatly forgot about it :|... so my bad...

  • Great video, however at the end I got stuck again.

    Enviorment

    Vmware Server Not player

    Gnome not KDE

I get the following error after I enter the path as shown in the video to the c header files

The directory of kernel headers (version @@VMWARE@@ UTS_Release) Does not match your running kernel (version 2.6.38). Even if the module were to compile successfully, it woldnot load into the running kernel.

    Any sugestions

  • you helped me lot thankssssssssssss

  • HOW DO I GET THAT TOOLS ? help.. I have BT5 main OS.. i Don't install it on Vmware... Where i can that vmware tools ?!

  • @acokait You could ask someone to upload it for you so u can download it... but it wouldn't help you since you have BT5 as the main OS... I would recomend to google for the drivers for linux... Since BackTrack uses ubuntu, you could look at their forums... i've done that since BT2 :|

  • its almost impossible for me to use my mouse in backtrack. the mouse is clicking on things an inch or so higher than the pointer.. the only solution ive found was to install vmware tools, but this is turning out to be impossible with out the use of the mouse??

  • @qwertzu87iop that sounds like a x-server problem... I had the exact same problem to... the way i fixed it wa go to a lower resolution... Also you can install vmware-tools in just cli... All you would have to do is copy from cd into a directory folder of ur liking with "cp" command with no quotes... Then just extract with "tar" command.. And go into the directory with "cd" command and use the command to install vmware-tools.. If you need me to show this in a video I could... I could do..

  • @curemymind yep, for sure a video would help. i've tried to change the resolution with no success. i haven't looked at your web sit yet, but that is my next step. this seems to be a common problem with a lot of people, but a lot of the simple solutions that i have tried haven't worked.

  • I was missing the part at minute 7:12 lol!!! Is all good now!!!

  • I made a video for you on my channel, Please watch it to see how you can help me, Thanks! :)

  • @CanecaProductions when you get the c header path, its stated in the video and also in the video discription... you have to type it out "/usr/src/linux-headers-2.6.38/include/" without the quotes... If you don't type out the c header path it will not install.. Also i will make a video on how to properly configure the Headers, so this problem doesn't keep occuring in other parts... I noticed it a bit too late.. but i should fix the this video...

  • Inssuficient space available in /usr/liv/vmware-tools. Please help me out ;)

  • @CanecaProductions what is the vmware version you are running? the latest should be 7.1.4-325536... If you are using any older then you need to update... Also check that your HD has enough space for what you are trying to do... And also is your vmware-tools this version 8.4.6-385536... And if you are using anything other hten vmware then plase correct me.. Best of luck...

  • @curemymind Wao Thanks for the fast reply!! I'm usin VMware 7.1.4 and I setup the Virtual HDD of 20G. I'm doing exactly what you did but I'm still getting the same error :( I also installed the headers and all that good stuff...

  • @CanecaProductions 1st uninstall using command vmware-uninstall-tools.pl if nothing then nothing will happen. Then try going over to the folder /usr/lib/ and find the folder vmware-tools delete the folder vmware-tools... Try to install it again...

  • @curemymind Will do man. Thank you for always getting back to me sir!! :)

  • i finally got this vmwaretools installed but i cant get a folder moved form my desktop to the bt5 desktop. it just say the clipboard is empty

what am i suppose to do? thx in advance

  • @fadzlirot I have no idea what is going on... but I get that to.. .The way i found around it is by right clicking on your mouse and copying and pasting with that... I don't know why that works but that's how i did it. The other way would be to check out my smaba shared folders install and also take a look at vmware tools to share a folder... I went with sharing a folder with the install of samaba... does a grate job...

  • very wonderful video ... i'm learning from you mooore things <3 ...thanks

  • can i ask u what program ur using for record? :)

  • @Peng2830 I'm using a program called Camtasia Studio, which is really grate.

  • I was at work actually doing the last editing in this video... its a bit fast but those that cant read fast need to use the pause button or read the video discrtiption 1st... :|
