Mrslimbeck, my comments had nothing to do with the violin player. My issue was that this was posted on a forum with a worldwide reach. Yes, I have some recordings of my salad days on the clarinet. It is one thing to have these things for friends and family, and quite another to post it on the web where anyone can look at it and save it for eternity. It's hard to imagine that she thought that nearly 600,000 people would see it or if she even knew it had been posted.

Honestly, I think she plays pretty well. Having studied violin for about 9 years and have been playing for about 3 to 5 years in many places and with few groups. She might not play the tunes in a way that is most acceptable for most variety of people, but the technique she uses is absolutely correct. She will get to the right tuning at the right time, but honestly, I believe she is quite talented. :) - An interesting piece. (PS! At least She is Honest! .. and not afraid to be ;) )

I agree with planedane; the video ought to be taken down. Obviously someone likes humiliating little 8-year old girls. The person who put this up was probably a bully himself/herself in school. That being said, the girl in the video is quite courageous playing in front of so many people. I hope she doesn't give up playing, and that the next video of her can show how much she's improved.

That's just wrong. This video should be taken down. It's one thing to pick on professional players who maybe are just having a bad night (or need to be told it is time). It is quite another to post a 3rd grade girl who may well have been performing for the first time and the nerves just got hold of her. I'm sure that every musician has performances they'd like to take back.

@planedane Myself, I have about...hmmm, 50? And I went on to win competitions. I'm sure people thought I was an idiot when I started playing. Everybody sucks when they start. Some pick up faster than others, but we all REALLY sucked at first. If you don' remember when you used to squeak and drop your bow and feel buff for playing a pizzicato note, you need to take a step back and remember where you started, because otherwise you'll never know how far you've come.

As someone who has been subjecting people to some less than melodious violin playing for the past 10 years, I would like to point out that performance is an integral part of learning any instrument. And no matter how painful it may be for you the listener, imagine how it is to be the one playing (trust me, it's pretty damn painful).

I would like to applaud this girl for picking up one of the toughest instruments out there and having the guts to get up there and play! Keep it up!
