i just bought some veil foundation primer and they are different colors,,,i have a purple a green and a nude they all apply the same way but is there a difference? does anyone know?

hey sorry for the late reply ! the different colors are for different skin tones like the purple one is for yellow skin tones and green is for people with redness in their skin =] hope that helps!

They're for color correcting. The green evens out redness in your skin (if you're really fair, redness shows up a lot) and the purple is meant to even out skin with a yellow tone, I think.

the lotion does not smell funky to me. It is vitamins for the face but I used it as a moisturizer before I put on the prime time. That stuff makes your face so nice and porcelain like. That stuff is very expensive especially the smashbox but it is worth every penny.

its 44$cdn (smashbox). I just got it today. Its sticky at first but once you rub it into your skin it has a very smooth and silky consistency. I am not too fond of the price tag but I wanted something different than mac.

Hmm..I guess that depends! Primer makes it look more "smooth" as my boyfriend calls it, thereby making your skin look more airbrushed and flawless. Some might interpret that to mean it looks UNnatural..

If you are using mineral foundation, then it should look natural no matter how you apply it, but primer will make it smoother and continuous. Very nice finish.

I have tried both and prefer the Prime Time as well. I recently started using the monistat chafing gel and love it. It is cheap and there is like a powder feel after I glide it on which seems to absorb any oil that shows up throughout the day whereas with the prime time I have to apply mineral veil for touch ups. I use Urban Decay Mineral powder. I was a BE user, but it irritated my sensitive skin.

I actually recommend BE prime time over smashbox after wearing them for a while. I really don't know why people don't seem to show an interest in prime time..it gets such good reviews. I have never tried prep and prime from MAC, but it is more like a lotion which might make it easier to apply for some.

So if I get the Smashbox one, will it work well? cuz I've heard someone saying that it gave her terrible acne that stayed around for about a month after she stopped using it.. :S

Yes I have also heard from two other trusted sources that the smashbox primer caused them to break out :(. You can also try to buy the BE one on ebay! I've had luck. I've also recently tried the MAC Prep+prime SPF 50 and seems to not make me break out! It also is good.

I have a very oily skin what can you recommend ,I was looking smashbox antishine or mac blot powder ,I use mac studio fix liquid foundation and pre& prime but i still very oily on the t-zone.

I don't know if you set your foundation with powder, but you first definitely need to do that and that will control oil. I have heard good things about blot powder, i would recommend that! now I use mineral makeup and mineral veil which is essentially cornstarch which controls oil really well. you can always try BE mineral veil, but I have never been able to convince a MAC foundation wearer to wear mineral makeup :) although I have done both myself.

Thanks for the comparison! I ended up getting Prime Time, which is oil free compared to Photo Finish. Even the Oil Free Photo Finish seemed a bit watery. Prime Time has been good to my oily combo skin. My makeup doesn't melt within 3 hours anymore~ extended to 8+ hours

If you have acne then I'd highly recommend a mineral foundation such as Everyday Minerals. I also have Bare Minerals, but I hear that the Bismuth makes some people's skin itch if they are sensitive.

I dunno why no1 is saying they want to try the BE prime time since it has gotten one of the highest reviews on makeupalley . com ..well over photofinish :). oh well. let me know how the light photofinish goes!

I don't remember exactly, but I think I did get BE prime time because it was cheaper than other options and got very good ratings. or perhaps it was just the ratings... but overall it isn't to bad..$21 for their pump I think :)

Unfortunately I do not own any MAC primers, but they are next on my list! AS for the shimmery one, are you referring to strobe cream? that isn't a primer exactly.. I wasn't aware that the primers had shimmer!

I heard that the regular one without SPF has some shimmer in it which could be the 'special effect silicones' I don't know if it's actually shimmery though, but I don't want to put shimmer all over my face. I thought in the video you said you tried one of MAC's primers.

I actually have never tried Prep and Prime, but that is definitely on my radar. I want to try the one with SPF 50 since my everyday minerals doesn't state that it has SPF.

Most, if not all, of foundation primers will contain some form of silicone as the main ingredient (usually listed as dimethicone in cosmetics). It provides slip and emolliency, as well as binds water to the face. I believe it is also non-comedogenic, so OK for oily skin, despite the "slippy" feel - it is not "oily". BTW, silicone is the reason why people use Monistat Anti-Chafing Cream as a face primer - because it is basically a silicone gel.

thanks for the info! I suspected the monistat had silicone in it :). I am afraid to post that tip b/c I don't know whether the gel has been approved for use on the face.. But I'm sure it works very similarly.

Heheh. I actually looked at the ingredients once, and decided that it is essentially the same as foundation primer. (main ingredient is dimethicone - I think it's like 12%). Haven't tried it yet since I have a couple of primers I'm trying to use up first, but it seems like it would be OK for the face since it's intended for "delicate areas such as inner thighs, bikini area, underarms, and breasts". Anyway, for 7 bucks, I figured it's worth a try at some point :-)

silicon shouldn't cause acne, it's often used as a mattifier in many cosmetics, so it should help with the oil-ctrl...given there's already a good moisturized base underneath. Just my 2 cents, this is a really good review, I've always wondered which is better=)

I got the BE 0.5 fl oz size by buying it off ebay in a set which also included the skin rev-er upper. I got the smashbox sample for FREE when I bought a gloss from smashbox . com. They ask you which sample you want and you can choose the primer. I don't know if they still have this available.
