The best movie ever! No happy end, I hate these movies counting down 3,2,1 and at last second someone save the world... ha,ha,ha this is going to happen soon because people are stupid. We are at the edge, for example in a 20 years there will not be anymore fosfore and without it we cant live.
This movie is the biggest bullshit in the whole set of postnuclear films. Over 1 MILLION atomic bombs, megaton each, couldn't make so much radiation. They would shread the Earth apart, but could not do that, not even close.
Also: constant, non-dissapearing radiation without a source (fallout, anything, e.g. in the ocean) - yeah, right. So much absurd, that Monty Python would salute you, You, who wrote this silly script.
@Riince Thank you for this great comment. Like 95% of the movies about catastrophies 'On the beach' is not 100% realistic. But watching this movie does not raise the idea of "what will probably happen" but the idea of "what would be if". In this point it is similar to nonsense movies like '2012' or 'The core'.
But 'On the Beach' shows another end - no happy end - and that is much more realistic as most of the simple US-american movies...
Everyone of us when he saw this movie starting to thought if that gonna happen to us, and what he will do in that situation. I think that the man in the movie take a great decision. To die in peace with his family, without pain and suffer.
And... the photons can't stopped yet. It can not come inside the earth from space because the atmoshere and can't go out for the same reason.
I again cry! So it is simple and so it is terrible...
Such films are very necessary.
At any moment all can end. War, explosion, a shot, the diagnosis... If it is the diagnosis it it is more difficult. There will be a necessity to make a choice.
SO nuclear radation is coming should we build underground fallout shelters to live in for years to come and waitout the rads and live on the human race? NO! we should all just give up. Dumb ending
@cr4yv3n Shouldn't they have already had fallout selters made? Plus this was made in 2000, so urban and simulated farmer under simluated Light was already possible. Compared to Alas Babylon, this was very week and the ended was crappy. Its like the Author ran out of ideas and just decided to get lazy and rush the ending. It was pretty bad.
Alas Babylon would make a much better movie, with a pleasuable ending.
@cr4yv3n I guess, so I understand the Anti-Nuclear of it, which I agree with, but Alas Babylon shows it more in a Hopefully Humanity can survive light as were On the Beach is more darker and hopeless
I love watching SCI-FI/Drama films or just Disaster movies. This one was very touching, emotional and sad film. Armand Assante, Rachel Ward, Bryan Brown, Jacqueline McKenzie and Grant Bowler did a great job!!!
That scenario is not too far away. It's not a sad book, its just a foresight. the only ones who would survive are the rich elite in government and business...that's sad also because only rotten corrupt people would be the last standing...which is even more depressing than the end of the world itself.
I just finished reading the novel~ its such a damn depressing subject as it is xD but yeah~ I think the author along with writing a great book~ could have also used this as perhaps a future warning to remind us....dont be..fucking retards xD great movie, great book, great~
@meta2006 This is how it could went for both our side. I remember when I was boy CCCP was so close to launch attack against west , more than any American ever know. I remember I say in school why can not America & CCCP work together , I was beaten. Teacher say you lucky to be child and not adult. if wrong ears hear you , КГБ jail you for treason. Was crazy then.
@SRostislav Tough decision, i really do not know what I would I do, but there are some hints that theu could have tried to leave to the Antartic continent (according to what I saw in Wikipedia), but odds are that I wouldn't take the pill.
@meta2006 - Every potential World Leader of every Super-Powerful Nation should be made to watch Films like this Film and "Threads"(1985) and "When The Wind Blows"(1986) and if anyone of them is not in anyway moved by them they should be immediately declared unfit for Office and not allowed in any position of Power.
Any download link, torrent, anything PLEASE???

The choice should be... As in this film. Human.

@skatepunkzero the point was there's no time - besides the book says the fallout would last for over SIX HUNDRED years and STERILIZE the planet.
Even IF you surive somehow what will you eat afterwards, everything is destroyed - the whole eco-system.

@skatepunkzero the book is written in the '50s back then Australia was depenmdant on foreign oil - hence the horses for cars.
A lot of stuff was taken directly from the book and not adapted to 2000.
Yeah i guess it's a mistake - but the message counts :P

@cr4yv3n Alas Babylon was written in the 50s and they had Fallout Shelters

@skatepunkzero they've never been tested really :)
They are just in theory.

@cr4yv3n well even so, going into a Fallout shelter is much better than just killing yourself

They didn't try very hard to fight radiation poisoning. They could have worn radiation suits and tried to build bomb shelters.

Długi film, podzieliłem na dwa dni. Na końcu ryczałem jak dziecko...
Devastating....
-Would you let your child suffer and suffer, to the end?
-Can you do it?
