In referance to teemuruskeepaa's comment, if they had even a few 30 meter trees on each property this would not be such a problem. When they chopped down there trees in there villages, they lost there last true defence.

No trees= more wind+more erosion=a new desert is going to be formed, or sand dune, in northern Brazil.
