Most of the innovations so many comanies profit from owe their source to collective endeavors... research grants, the internet, GPS sattelites... etc. The government is not a boogyman it's a machine we created to make our lives better. We tried letting companies police themselves. Didn't work.

government should be efficient, providing things private businesses shouldn't (like army, prisons, firefighters, cops, hospitals). The fear you have of government, is actually what's happening with big coorperations. You can't trust a coorperation to do things that a government should do because it's capitalism. which means profit = holy. Which in itself isn't a bad thing, but when war, imprisonment and your health are things to be made profit of, that's asking for f'd up situations

@alliencedful Hospitals? Govt. Hospitals have never been good, private hospitals have always been fat superior. That is why pople in the UK go t oprivate hospitals and pay out of their own pockets rather then go to an NHS hospital. I WANT a hospital that's competing for my business, not one that is going to treat me like I'm getting a drivers license.

First of all, 7000 to1 people come to the US for medical treatment. Second 90% of ALL drug research is funded either directly or indirectly by the US medical system. Also,in countries with both, people choose private over public. There are more accidental deaths, and malpractice in public hospitals.
