The indigenously designed and developed Kaveri Engine was successfully flight tested on an IL76 by DRDO yesterday during the Flying Test Bed (FTB) Trials at Gromov Flight Research Institute (GFRI), Moscow, Russia.
K9 version of Kaveri engine was tested from take-off to landing and flew for a period of over one hour up to at an altitude of 6000m at a speed of 0.6 mach on its maiden flight. The engine control, engine performance and engine health during the flight were found to be excellent
Latest news is that, LCA will be matted with PV-1 or LSP-1 for flight trial. My guess, PV-1 as this is the only prototype built with kaveri in mind. KH-1 and KH-2 are dismantled. So, good progress.
New fuselage, wider wings, according to insiders in ADA, might have 2 extra hardpoints at the tip, with additional jammers. Lets see what the ADA/HAl throws at us.
thrust to weight capability as u said good is not enough for supercruise. For a 6.5 flying object it needs an engine with dry thrust of atleast 60KN to cruise at supersonic speeds. hope with GE414 or EJ200 it can supercruise.
"India is making many changes in its LCA tejas, The kaveri Engine is Made much more better... By 2012 ,The Tejas will be heavy combat fighter... " kash bro is it true.
India is making many changes in its LCA tejas, The kaveri Engine is Made much more better... By 2012 ,The Tejas will be heavy combat fighter... Its already MACH 1-3 Speed,And a 4.5 generation fighter...
In 2012 It will be as reliablew than any other frontline fighter... Fully developed by India..
I heard from Mohan Rao, the GTRE chairman that Kaveri engine is producing almost 90% of required thrust and that they will try to complete it without any help! Required atleast-90kN Present thrust-82 kN
Anyway Kaveri is already better than Sncema M88 of Rafale! M88-81kN thrust with so called super cruise but Rafale super cruises below mach 1! So GTRE already know that GTX is better than M88!
Nice one there, buddy. Besides, looking apart from the so called "OH Modern Ho advanced Fighter of the West", Rafale has a top speed of ONLY 1.8 Mach... That is the speed at which HAL Tejas flies at being a light combat aircraft.
Though I appreciate French offers of help and their friendship, I certainly would prefer to have something more powerful than that for a Medium-to-Heavy combat fighter as the Rafale claims to be.
As for the MRCA, I think a mix of MiG-35 with Typhoon is the best.
Johnxx9, if the Rafale supercruises below mach1, then it is not called supercruising. Supercruise is only possible if an aircraft can attain and retain supersonic flight throughout the duration without engaging afterburners.
JF-17s are powered by RD-33 engines. Russians, out of pity, allowed chinese, copy cats to export JF-17s with Russian engines to pakistan. J10s are powered by Russian engines too. sukhoi engine AL-31F.
PLAAF was never satisfied with indigenous woshan WS-10A underpowered engines. PLAAF imported 180 AL-31F engines for 300 million dollars in 2005 from Russia, but chinese don't like to talk about it !! hehehe
chinese propaganda is not just about fighther jets. Take their so called indigenous long ranged cruise missiles. ALCMs
Ukraine exported at least 18 examples of the 3,000km-range, nuclear capable Kh-55 (NATO codename: AS-15 Kent) strategic cruise missiles to China and Iran between 1999 and 2001, A CLEAR VIOLATION OF MISSILE CONTROL ACT. China may have also obtained the design of the Kh-65SE, a shorter-range export version of the Kh-55 from Russia. Chinese don't like to talk about it
indigenous kaveri engine has more thrust than american GE-404, but IAF once again changed its requirement and they want a super engine with super thrust. GE-404 is out of the window now and a new engine (GE-414 or E 200) with more thrust will be fitted, until indo-french engine with super thrust sees the light !!
what is MCA?? can LCA fight at night also? can it be used for high altitude war like Kargil? can it be refuled mid air? is it deep penetration strike air craft or for air to air fight?
Medium combat aircraft (MCA). It is a multi-role fighter !! Yes, it can be used at night too. This is not 60s, remember !! It is capable of deep penetration, for bombing missions, but LCAs first priority will be to smoke 3rd generation J10s and 2.5th generation Jf17s (assumption based on outdated avionics and radar inside J10s and Jf17s, not on costly shiny paint porkis and chinkis use)
I am not sure, how many more flights tests need to be completed. AESA radar will be
co-develped with some european company for LCA. By 2010, if LCA is inducted, it will be armed with both BVR missiles, Astra (80-110 kms)and R77 missiles (80 -110 kms). By 2012, it will be fitted with indigenous engine Kaveri. I am not being, blindly optimistic, but many sources confirm that LCA is on the right path.

Tejas Mk1 Initial operational clearance by early 2011
Indian air force has ordered 40 Tejas Mark 1 and Indian Navy some more Tejas mark 1.
We are also looking at 100 Tejas Mark 2 for Indian air force and at least 50 Tejas Mark 2 for Indian Navy
In total, we are looking at least 200 to 250 Tejas for both Indian air force and Navy for both mark1 and mark 2 versions.
Next step is AMCA (Advanced medium combat stealth aircraft). I hope kaveri gets ready for this twin engined beast.
kashsoldier 1 year ago
The Mark 2 will have a more powerful engine, refined aerodynamics.

Does naval version of LCA has vertical take off capabilities?
hello240157 2 years ago
u mean hower like like F35 or harrier? no it dont.
I will have short take off and land with the help of Hook arrester as F18 and Rafael do.

Max speed : Mach 1.8 / supersonic at all altitudes
who told u its not supersonic???

I have heard that after inducting Kaveri Engine Tejas will be able to do supercruise is it true?
Anmol34 3 years ago
It should, it is the same engine that will be used in the FGFA (sukhoi) and the MCA (HAL). So it literally needs super cruise

MCA is Medium combat aircraft. Its the 5th gen stealth aircraft of India, based on the success and model of LCA... not the pak fa....
akafalcons 3 years ago
PAK-FA stealth falls under medium combat aircraft category !! It cannot a carry heavy payload like su MKI and will be definitely lighter than suMKI
kashsoldier 3 years ago
India wouldn't start stealth MCA project until kaveri engine is developed. MCA stealth will have twin engines.
