The lion with orange hemp fur is the northern lion or northern beijing lion. Female denoted by greenish-blue bow and male by red bow. Southern Cantonese lions are the others. Traditionally the tails were 9-12 feet. Whether they were fat san or hok san. The original 3 colors were yellow with multi colored marking and white beard for liu bei, red with black marking and long black beard for guan Gong, Black with white and green markings for Zhang Fei.

If you look at only the Southern Style Lions, those are the original 3 designs. The multi-color with the white beard, the red with the black beard, and the all black one. Based on the 3 character of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms Period.

Lau Bei, Kwan Gung, and Cheung Fei.

I do not care for today's funky style lions with all those funky colors. They maybe more creative, but I guess I am a Traditionalist.

Thank you. I absolutely despise the new fluffy, cuddly modern lion heads that are out these days. Lucky for me, my benevolent association still uses the old school traditional lion heads. It's an appreciation of our roots and history, passing down the history from previous generations to the next, more importantly, the old school lion heads look more fierce.
